I don't hear those Campbell is gonna be great this year people now? Sure it's the first game but honestly, who throws the football when your 3 yards past the line of scrimmage?
And why was he holding the ball so low when it got slapped out of his hand and the first down throw was behind Moss and the terrible INT on the sideline... bad day for him in a contract year. Weak.
Here's an excuse: The Redskins played on the road against one of the NFL's elite teams. The fact that we stuck around says a lot about this team.
We didn't stick around? We made a slight comeback with less than 2 minutes left? That was like a desperation TD. The NFC East is always tough conference. The only way you set the marker as a good team is when you're able to beat other elite teams (or at least give them a run for their money). At no point in time were the Giants worried --Oh they might come back-- The fact that we STILL can't keep up with these good teams is a glaring fact that we are still doing something terribly wrong.

If we lose our home opener against these guys, it's going to be a very long season.
Its sad we have to look forward to trying to beat the teams that are no so good. Today the skins did not deserve to win and if they play any other games like today then they do not deserve to win then either. But the great Zorn will tell all that the team did real good in their first game and how much they have improved. Bull crap to zorn and the whole damm front office.

Just long enough to get our ass kicked.

Stuck around......? We should be competing! Not just getting that easy crap over the middle at the end of the game, that makes it appear like we actually showed up.

That is embarrassing!

I am surprised at how suspect the D looked.

I dont know if its the talent or the coaching but the O line just isnt good enough to allow the Skins to do anything on O. If they are goinbg to avg less than 20 ppg then they just cant win.

In the end its obvious that the Skins are nowhere close to an elite NFL team.

Initial thoughts:

1. I've said it a thousand times. Save your trick play for the third quarter. The Giants defensive staff probably showed them that play (from last years Eagles game) a million times.

2. Deangelo Hall is a defensive Brandon Lloyd. If there were a tree on the field, he would jump up in it to avoid physical contact.

3. What you gain in pass pro by exchanging Janson/Kendall for Heyer/Dockery, you lose in the running game.

4. The Giants hold all the time and never get called for it.

5. Chris Wilson is suppossed to catch an onside kick?

6. Smoot has a huge bullseye on his back.

7. Carlos Rogers dropped two that I saw.

8. Zorn with his play calling and Jason with his play both seem scared to death.

9. Sellers non-existent. Davis non-existent. Thomas (same reverse as last year's game, again film), Kelly one catch.

10. It's the same old shit.
Or DeAngelo Hall could cover the guy in front of him at some point during the four quarters that he's on the field.

But yeah, let's blame Carlos for lunging for the pass breakup instead of trying to one hand stab an INT when no one else at the cornerback position made a play all day.
Deangelo cant cover anyone, Rogers is clearly our best cover corner...too bad he cant catch.

I thought we played a rather vanilla game esp on offense but it is one game and we were playing one of the best in the league. No need to hit the panic button or demand anyone's heads yet.

I beg to differ. This Giants team was beat up, bad and we looked like crap. Ya! Next week we beat the Rams to hold onto the 29th spot on the power polls, so fucking excited!

Again, it is the first game of the season no sense in stroking out yet.

We have a lot to work on, we need to play more disciplined and more focused. These things are fixable.

Good quote here also. We need to start with is a new owner, a new front office and new coachs. Then except the fact that the team needs rebuilding from top to bottom and quite trying to break the bank on high price players. Also in my opinion Zorn is sending negative waves to his players that he in fact does not have any faith in his players. I'm sorry but I believe others may have been right about zorn. coaching as a head coach is not his thing and he has no idea how to get the job done. Also I feel there is no discipline worth a crap on this team. And that is all to be blamed on the wonderous Jim Zorn.

Most of the time the G-Men had pressure, I felt it was during a blitz- too many men for the line to handle.

The line seemed to hold up when they were matched up man-to-man. Campbell didn't look too dinged up to me- clean jersey and all.

So you're saying Campbell was getting pulverized then? And yes, you can still get dirty on astroturf.

You're looking for holes in the wrong places.

That was just a bad performance.

What happened to the vertical threat?
Why does Portis look so slow?
Why does Santana look so slow?
Why is the red zone offense still a joke?

I'm glad I am sober. That was a major buzzkill.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants Gameday thread, Opener 2009

You know there was too much stuff that went wrong to pinpoint one area as the thing that killed us today. We had no business being there in the end down by a touchdown. And it's amazing how we play all lackadaisical up until there's like 3 minutes left in the fourth and we're down by 2 td's. It's like we have to wait all game just for the light to suddenly turn on when it's too late to come back. I'm just gonna put this one down as a fail all around.

Personally I want to know wth happened to all that supposed "progress" we made in the preseason. Campbell didn't play anything like he did during the final two preseason games, once again our young guys (Davis, Thomas and Kelly) didn't show up, and so far DeAngelo Hall looks overmatched and definitely not worth that 56 mil contract out there.
WOW, You must have been watching a different game than I was.
The problem is JC does not know how to use the pocket so then the line look bad. When the line pushes the D line around him he rolls out when they push the D line in he runs up. Last nighht they showed some highlights from last years G game and the couple sacks they showed was all on JC. Lets face the fact he is not and NFL starter. Eli made him look like he was still in high school.

Thats what Portis did last season and got away with it because he (and all the players) knows they answer to Snyder not the head coach. Until that changes this team will be the same old losers we are used to seeing.

Bushead 09-13-2009 07:34 PM

Re: Redskins vs. Giants Gameday thread, Opener 2009

The O-Line was MUCH IMPROVED. Sweet Jesus. He had lots of time compared to last season. They created plenty of pockets for Jason to step up into. That fumbel returned for a touchdown is one. Now, the running holes weren't much today, but Portis to rip off a couple long ones.

I just feel like its the same old story: the defense is on the field way too long. Now that 2 minute drill really looked better and improved. But, the Giants are a good team, and hell, this is a much better performance against the giants than the last 2 meetings last year.

JC never seemed to have time and the few times he did he went into "freeze up" mode where he just couldnt make himself throw the ball.
