SS I heard (from Pat Jones on sports radio) that Shanny is a fan of Andy Dalton, have u heard anything like that lately?
I need to start listening to this Pat Jones guy. He seems like a fountain of information. Which Shanahan are you talking about? I haven't heard anything specific about Dalton. But from what I've gathered, I think right one of the scenarios below is what could likely happen (subject to change 10k times between now and draft day): A. Stay at 10 and take Robert Quinn, and stay at 41 and take Locker, Ponder, , Kaepernick, or Dalton (in that order, depending on who's available) Stay at 10 and take Quinn, and trade up into the mid to late 1st to take one of the QBs (this is hard without being able to trade players) Trade down in the 1st and take one of the QBs and add a couple of 2nd rounders. Something tells me they're not going QB at 10 because they don't think there's a huge gap among them and they feel they can get one later. I've heard also they've shown interest in Stanzi and Greg McElroy, but I think those are 4th rounders at best. And I don't know how strong the interest really is. But I'm, as of now, sticking to my belief that at #10 if we hold on that pick we'll be calling Robert Quinn's name. After that , somewhere we'll find a QB before the beginning of round 3. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
He's been pretty good on predictions especially with Oakland for some reason. Anyways I don't think he meant Dalton at 10 obviously but maybe in the 2nd. I'd take Quinn at 10 in a heartbeat
They like them both a lot from what I hear, but I don't know what that means exactly. Will they start? Probably not. Can they get on the active roster? Hopefully one of them will.
The whole CBA situation really is impacting the OL situation as much as anything, because they're not moving forward on any talks with Jammal Brown and they can't pursue Joseph and possibly Ryan Harris. Two guys at the top of their list. Harris more so if Brown doesn't stay
An example of how these Skins ain't the Skins that won in strike-shortened seasons, those teams had stability. But, there was no free agency then. This year there are a ton of FAs, so everyone is in this boat to some degree. Even if its just the uncertainty of not being able to re-sign their own guys. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Tough to really compare because, as you point out, the league just isn't the same.
So anyway...now I hear the Browns and Niners are both very high on Quinn. (Could be a smokescreen), but if so, then never mind Quinn at #10 I guess So long as they leave this draft with a QB, preferably Locker or Ponder, I'll be happy. |

Quinn sounds like a pure pass rusher, but playing opposite Orakpo we need a guy that can cover too. |

I wouldn't necessarily say that. I think Quinn's just as versatile. But his versatility is hidden under the fact that he's perhaps the most explosive pass rusher in this draft. Ayers doesn't have that explosiveness so his versatility is emphasized. |

Do u think Quinn will be there at 10? Apparently SF is really high on him. |

They're currently holding our starting QB hostage, acting like they suddenly like him. I think for Quinn to fall to us our best chance is Green to the Browns and Gabbert to San Fran. Quinn to San Fran makes a lot of sense though. Petterson would probably be the best fit if he fell that far. |

He intrigues me. In many ways it's the Rogers vs. Hall debate to me. When I watch Ponder, I see a guy who will be steady and perhaps underappreciated. I'm not sure though he's going to be a factor when a big play is needed. But then with Locker, I see a guy who can totally turn a game around on one play...except he could turn it around the wrong way. I like Ponder a lot, but there's something really unique about Locker when he's at his best that Ponder can't compare to. Beyond those two guys, even as an Iowa fan, there's really no QB in this draft that rocks my world. |

He can make plays when nothing is there.. As far as Ponder you guys know I'm not high on him but I was very impressed with the Senior Bowl game. What about CAM "Goes HAM" Newton? I say no but if he's there at 10 would Shanny take him? I think he would |

I don't think he'll be there, and if he is I don't think we'll take him. From what I hear, Kyle's not too high on him

I'm just guessing here...but when Shanny took Cutler, there was little buzz. There's a lot of buzz about Shanny and Cam. Therefore maybe it is all smoke. Maybe Shanny has no interest in Cam. Or maybe I'm just wishing that. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
This Colin Kaepernick kid is interesting. 41 Total TD's (20 passing 21 rushing) last year, 4 year starter, finally got his accuracy up with 64.7% last year. At the very least he would certainly be able to run that classic Shanahan bootleg.
Of course I kind of flinched when I saw him compared with LeFevour and V. Young. [YT]Jq1gL_Q-vO0[/YT] |

No way. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. On a brighter note, after seeing the highlight of Kaepernick, I like him. I like his athletic ability. He reminds me a lot of a young McNabb. I like his bootleg and scrambling ability. What do you guys think? |

Good explanation. Ayers sounds like a good player that didn't have great numbers during workouts, he might be there later in the 1st/early 2nd & sounds like good value. Might be one of the guys they would be hoping to get if they can trade back. |

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
So I know that we're not about giving up future picks, but it's looking very likely that Michael Floyd (following his DUI and indefinite suspension from ND) will be entering the supplemental draft this summer. Here's a guy who could be a late 1st/2nd round pick in the regular draft but could now be had for maybe a 4th in the supplemental draft. I'd be very very tempted to make that move.

Kid has already had 2 alcohol related incidents already, and you want to thrust him into a market like DC? This is not going to end well if we did make that move. 2 red flags already with this guy. Pass. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
As long as he can play like John Riggins drunk I'm all for it.
I am not buying the red flag BS anymore. All high character guys give you is a disciplined locker room, not x's in the "W" column. As long as he plays great on sunday he can hang out with Big Ben in Georgia for all I care anymore. 20 years of losing is enough. |

4th round pick is just the right price, since that's what we have from the JC trade. I know his off field issues might be a problem, but at that price it's more low to med. risk. |

That's not really 'giving up' a future pick, it's simply using it earlier. I liked the Jarmon pick a lot, hope he can become the starting RDE. |
Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Yeah i view supplemental draft picks different then trading picks for vets or bundling picks to move up in the draft. I liked getting Jarmon and i wish we got Gaither before. I dont really know to much about the player, but if hes a good player i got no problem with it

Re: 2011 NFL Draft
Also the biggest knock on the supp. draft in my opinion is that the player misses out on a bunch of camps and stuff and basically gets a late start compared to all the other rookies. So if the lockout is prolonged the supplemental draft may gain parity to the regular draft since the rookies from the regular draft may not get a head start or may have a shortened head start. Does anyone know the rules on the allowed contact between teams and new rookies? This year could end up sucking for rookie development.

Is it excusable that he was over the legal limit? No, but I think a much bigger deal is being made of this than need be. And if he wasn't a Division 1 star, probably no one even hears of it. |

Because they could trade down to the bottom of the first round, get Phil Taylor, pick up a QB in the 2nd, and get probably another 2nd or a 3rd rounder. |

No matter how good they are, it's not going to do your team a bit of good if he's suspended by the NFL for alcohol related events. You aren't buying the "red flag BS" anymore? Guess who you have a ton in common with? Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato. You are in good company. Believe it or not, leadership accounts for more than you can imagine. Teddy Bruschi comes to mind. |
