Where's smootsmack? I wonder if he has any insider information on what's going on this free agency with regards to our players and those on other teams... |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Heres a name that is reportedly on our radar; CB Greg Toler of the AZ Cardinals. He's a local kid.
Where do you get low risk from? They guy has had off the field issues since college. He obviously can't do what he's supposed to. Last type of person we need on the team and in the locker room.
Let Dallas sign him. Dez needs someone else to hang out with on the weekends and have a family slap-fest.
I get low risk from paying him very low to one year, and if he acts up snip goodbye= low risk. possible speed back thats a threat to added to this O = high reward. Thats my math on that. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I have a buddy who swears he get inside info, and he says Mike Mitchell, Keenan lewis, Greg Toler and Chris Clemons are guys the Redskins are targeting for thier secondary. He says they liken Mitchell to Ryan Clark, but their top target would be Clemons. He has been right before, but he could just be guessing like the rest of us.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
out of those i like clemons the best, would be a good pickup plus a draftee hopefully DJ swearinger

I've heard Toler mentioned a couple of times. But Mike Mitchell? Really? He sucks. He got overdrafted a few years ago. I remember Kiper saying he didn't have Mike Mitchell even being drafted and raiders picked him in the 2nd. Chris Clemons I like. Keenan Lewis is solid. Honestly I think a good FA for us would be getting James Casey TE/FB Houston; Greg Toler CB Arizona; and Corey Lynch S San Diego. If we get Clemons, great, but A) I don't think he'll come cheap cause he starts and is rated highly by PFF B) Corey Lynch can do more C) Corey Lynch is cheaper |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Cult, why do you like Lynch? I've seen his name mentioned a lot between fans, and personally don't understand it. Don't mean to pick on you, just curious how this all has come about.
His career high INTs for a season is 2, and he's done that once. I don't see how that meshes with the aggressive scheme we run, predicated on generating turnovers. Just because someone is young and an upward trend does not mean they're a good FA acquisition in my opinion. That's what I see in Lynch, a guy who's gone from bad to average over his career (he was at one point relegated to PS after playing in live action with the Bengals IIRC), who's young. I would personally prefer to use that money on either re-signing or own guys, or investing it into a FA CB. Give me a Toler and ensure that OMG and 5-0 are signed. EDIT: Not to mention this draft is extremely deep at the safety position in the middle rounds, and we very well could draft a S in the 2nd or 3rd round, that will play better their first year than Lynch could this year. |

He's young, he has good hands, he is much more instinctive and faster than Reed. HTTR24/7 who has good league sources (according to SS and Matty) has been scouting FA DBs and said that Lynch is great for us. I trust that based on the breakdown he did of lynch. I suggest you head over to his site and check it out. |

I may become your disciple. Like you, I believe that the Skins need to build primarily through the draft but that doesn't mean overlooking good values in FA. I can foresee significant roles on the Skins for the players you mentioned. I think that Skins management will not want to go into next season without adding experienced players at CB and at least one safety position. We are just too thin in the secondary not to do so. Doing that and adding a CB and a safety in the draft should provide the depth we need in the secondary. |
No I don't want to, but since we're tight against the cap I don't think it's out of the question.
Do you pay Lichtensteiger a couple of million per year or do you go the next man up route and plug in your 3rd rounder from last year? Who else do we have at guard? Hurt can play guard or tackle, and we also drafted Gettis last year.
Although I like Lichtensteiger, with his recent injuries and a deep OL pool this year in the draft, I can see us moving on and taking some young guys to develop. The liine played well without him last year. |

Re: 2013 Free Agents
We dont even have a starting safety right now. Its a ridiculous concern for us unless were happy with bombs being chucked over our heads for late game scores.

So how are some players able to be signed by other teams before the beginning of free agency? Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't understand this but just looking for clarification. |

If your contract expires then you cannot be signed until the start of FA. But if you get cut, you are free game for anyone to sign at any time. |

You can sign any player who is not under contract. The thing about Free Agency is that those players with expiring contracts are still considered under contract until Mar 12th, which is why FA starts on the 12th. For players in the last season of their deal, thats when the contract is considered officially over. George Wilson was released, so was therefore no longer under contract and available to be signed by anyone. |

Re: 2013 Free Agents
I know wide receiver isn't a priority, but Wes Welker playing for the Redskins? With RG3 throwing to him? Sign me up right now! If we could only convince him to take limited pay. I'm not hating on our current receiving corps, and I know we really need some good young DBs, but Wes Welker is Wes Welker.

I wouldnt mind it but his price vs his production might not be in our budget with a few other glaring needs. |

Re: 2013 Free Agents
Without a reduction in the salary cap penalty I am seeing a lot of doom and gloom about our offseason this year. We may add a couple of second and third tier players, but I am also more focused on keeping our own players that are possibly going to have to leave.
I want to keep our online I tact. Kory L and Polumbus for quality depth are targets for me. Young is a great FB and has gotten better every year (could see this guy having a long career as long as he is healthy). Davis and Paulson need to be back. Jackson and Lorenzo need to be here as they are extremely valuable to our team. If we can't find a replacement I would bring Griffin back as well. I can't believe we are 4mil over the cap, and have 15-16 guys coming off the roster. |

We have 7 draft picks and had the same penalties last season and were still able to land our top WR for the future. I can see us signing our key guys and picking up a secondary player or two. Olus aren't we trying to work out a long term deal with Mr. Orakpo right now. That might save us some money as well. |

How do you propose we resign all these guys when we are $4 mil over the cap? There's about 6-8 guys I think most people are in agreement we want back. I don't see how it's possible as things sit now. |

Assuming we don't get any cap space back we'll definitely have to make some tough decisions. It could mean letting someone like Davis get away I'm afraid. |

Re: 2013 Free Agents
Like a few have said before, I think the Skins will allow Fred Davis to test the market. They aren't going to give him top dollar, and truthfully I doubt he gets it on the open market either. We showed last year the team did fine without him.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
LMFAO Quake.
:) Without any relief we are going to lose guys we all would want to keep. I also would love to have Rak, but I fear that considering we dangled him out there last year as trade bait for RG III. I could see a surprise trade coming where we move on from him. I DO NOT want tat to happen, but if you look at his injury history under this regime it is possible to read that in the tea leaves. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
How much room do we get if Moss and Fletcher retire?
|
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Moss is 6.2 mil salary and I think fletch is in the 5 mil range. I do not know how much of that would go back on our cap, the full amount or just a portion of it.
