Every time he steps on the field he is at risk. It is like having a exotic car must of the time you drive it safe but some times you got take it for a risky spin.
You can't ever tell him not to take risk in the scramble/running department because that is what makes him dangerous to opposing defenses. God I can't wait for him to be 100% and ready to tear this league up again.
I agree for the most part, however, RG3 took a lot of unnecessary hits. You'd see him head towards the sideline for a nice gain, then cut BACK into traffic and take a hit for an extra couple yards. I appreciate his fight, but really want him to understand that running out of bounds, sliding, and throwing the ball away are good plays. I think Shanny took too much heat for not protecting him and RG3 didn't take enough for protecting himself. |

Damn. I assumed that with Winston being on the market for as long as he has been, his price might have dropped. Guess not... |

Why are the skins so against Winston? Is he an cancer in the locker room or something, pissed off Kyle? He seems like the perfect fit. |

I think after the ATL hit he was better about not trying to get a few more yards. The BAL hit he was sliding his leg just came up and hit Ngata. I think they have limited his high risk scenarios but again it is impossible to eliminate all risk. |

Not much info in there, and we have to assume there is something cooking. Is Dhall's contract on the books officially? If so with adding Hall and FD we still have something around 600K in space? Also does Grossman's 1mil vet min salary count against the cap? (Not sure if his contract falls in the rule of 51 for vet min contracts or not) |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Interesting...Cardinals NOT impressed with Winston after watching tape on him. Then again, they don't use a zone blocking scheme that I know of, so maybe it's a case of him not fitting their system.
Eric Winston - Unsigned Free Agent - 2013 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com
According to the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals were "not impressed" with free agent RT Eric Winston's tape. It appears most of the league isn't, as Winston has made just two visits since the start of free agency, and couldn't land deals with tackle-needy Miami and San Diego. Winston held his own for the Chiefs last season, but has been released each of the past two offseasons. He may have to wait until after the draft to find a new home. Apr 3 - 2:39 PM
Also, the Dolphins apparently offered Winston a 1-year, low-money deal and he wants multiple years with guaranteed money.
Per the Miami Herald, free agent RT Eric Winston remains on the Dolphins' radar. Beat writer Armando Salguero thinks the Dolphins will get Winston in the fold if they can "convince him to take a short-term -- perhaps one-year -- deal that is not for huge money." However, Winston is still seeking a multi-year deal with some guaranteed money. He doesn't appear close to landing anywhere anytime soon. Mar 31 - 12:22 PM

Free agent RT Eric Winston said Thursday that he isn't close to signing with Dolphins. "I’m just kind of looking for the right fit right now," Winston said on NFL AM. "Obviously I have ties to South Florida. Being down there is not the be all, end all." Winston has drawn interest from the Dolphins, Chargers and Eagles this offseason, but a deal doesn't appear to be imminent. The Palm Beach Post believes that Winston has "moved on" from the idea of playing in Miami. Mar 28 - 12:08 PM
Who knows...maybe we can end up with him on the cheap if he's desperate to sign somewhere. We certainly have the right fit for him and he played under Kyle before. |

There was also a lot more wrong with the Saints than Payton's absence last year. I think they're over-valuing him.

I agree MD.
I don't know if I would put Reid in the top ten right now either. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Reed might be a great tackler but he can't cover anyone. Still, he's a warrior doing it without being able to hear...a great guy to have on your team...just not starting.

I tried to search schedule, and could not find the search bar. Anyway, I was wondeing if anyone knows why we play Tampa Bay every year in the last game of the preseason.

I think it might have to do with location or being somewhat close to us. So the NFL spends less on travel. We usually play Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Carolina as well. |

Was talking about Andy Reid being ranked in the top ten head coaches. I personally like having Reed on the team until there is someone better than him to be our backup. |

Teams schedule their own games for the 4th preseason game. Perhaps the Allen connection to Tampa is why we're playing them again. Just my guess. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
I sure hope we can take a shot at Tyson Clabo...don't know much about him, but it seems he was considered the Falcons best OL and he plays RT....one of our top 2 needs RT and Safety.
I would think this may be a game changer in priorities...I'd rather have a solid RT than a old and solid slot CB in Winfield. How much would he cost us?....like 3.5M a year for 3 yrs?...he is 31 yrs old I would think that is around what we are offering Winfield...except probably a 2 yr deal for him. What do you guys know about him? Is he worth changing our strategy to acquire? It seems fans of most teams needing a RT are slobbering over him Let the drooling commence! |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Is there any reason they can't offer a contract that is backloaded so this year is a small cap number and it grows next year(s)?
|
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
As much as we need a healthy starting caliber RT I hate the idea of bringing in another aged vet who may/may not play at a higher level than the scrubs we already have. But then if RG takes the kind of beating on drop backs he did last year we could well see another concussion or major injury. So ya, you gotta sign Clabo or whoever the best FA RT prospect is right now. Short of cutting Fletcher, any other possible move is probably worth it.

Clabo is a really good RT, but I don't think he fits the ZBS. secondly, I'd rather have a player in the secondary and draft a RT and have Compton/draft pick/pashos/trueblood battle it out in camp. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
Agree, Clabo's going to be 32 this year. Winston is going to be 30 this year and should have a lower cap value. Would rather prefer our recent trend of 26 year old vets that can give us 5 years of development than 2 years of overpaid retirement (I realize that a 1-2 year deal may be attractive given cap concerns this year). Andre Smith would be the prototype age for a free agent for us, but he'd be too expensive.
Ideally would love for one of the recent draft picks to settle into this role, was very hopeful for Compton last year. But perhaps otherwise Shanny can pick up a good star mid-rounder O-lineman like he usually does. A lot cheaper and longer lasting solution. The best O-line is a young one that stays together unchanged for the next 10 years with RG3. |
