CNN) -- Michael Bloomberg is investing a chunk of his personal fortune to minimize the influence of the National Rifle Association. The former New York City mayor pledged $50 million to his new group Everytown for Gun Safety, an umbrella organization for his two other gun control groups: Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. It aims to make the political climate more supportive of gun control. The new organization plans to compete against the NRA by adopting its playbook. The NRA has built an impressive and effective organization that touts millions of members, a robust lobbying organization and a massive campaign arm [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IR3V6guxFoo]Michael Bloomberg to Spend $50 Million on New Gun Control Group - YouTube[/ame] |

Re.the overall poster: So no blanket gun bans, gun restrictions, or gun taxes? Because you're not so stupid you're pissed at guns? Good. Re.1: Mandatory safety programs? Particularly if the government pays for them, this is very good. From teaching kids NOT to play with guns, to youth and adult handling and shooting training, a one time course would be good. Maybe offer it in high school. The only tricky part is "mandatory". No permanent gun registration should be kept, just records that a person has taken the course, should be good for background checks. And the safety courses must not be restrictively priced high or scarce to find, like the shenanigans DC pulled here. Edit: You know what, still too vulnerable to government abuse, and tying classes to the right to bear arms is unconstitutional. Best thing to do would be to make it a one-time mandatory class in elementary school, and highschool, a requirement for graduation. Re.2: Depends what you mean by "more thorough background checks". Enforcing existing laws better would be start. Re.3: Depends of what the definitions of "negligence" laws, like simply having a gun that's not locked in a safe, are a no-go. Tougher penalties on brandishing, using guns like Joe Biden recommended, etc., criminal misuse of guns, would be good though. So... glad to see some people coming around, I guess? |

I moved from So Cal a few years ago, it seemed government owned land where target shooting was permitted shrunk on a yearly basis. Wasn't a fan of indoor ranges and a lot of the outdoor ones were private. Used to go to AZ just across the river from Blythe on I-10. All kinds of shooting areas there, no one was shooting on the California side I believe it was illegal. |

I am guessing that is still a pretty run down area? I actually went to the website, looks like indoor ranges are a little different than the last one I went to in the early 90's. The one I went to made you buy their handgun ammo and it was all low powder rounds. |
They let me shoot their ammunition or what I bring. Next time I go I'll take 200 rounds of .45 ACP for a relaxing morning.

I wonder if something has changed since I last went to A Cali indoor range over 20 years ago or the place I went to had restrictions on it. Like I said you had to buy their ammo and it was low powder loads. I would say their 45's had the kick of your average .22. Maybe it is old school macho BS but the more noise and more kick a gun has the more I like it. Of course I still have a .22 pistol and rifle because you can't beat how cheap the ammo is. |

Here's an interesting video, from 2012:
Spartanburg Waffle House shooting video released, sparks new debate Nineteen-year-old Dante Williams' family said there is no doubt he entered the Waffle House in Chesnee back in January of 2012 intent on robbing it, but they say he didn't have to die. FOX Carolina obtained surveillance video from inside the Waffle House that investigators said shows Williams and his accomplice Jawan Craig come into the restaurant. Deputies said Williams is the one seen pointing a gun and demanding money. Sitting at the bar area of the restaurant was Justin Harrison, a concealed weapon permit holder, who was armed the night of the robbery. "They're yelling 'everybody get down, get down' and I'm not getting on the floor. I am not going to be a victim," Harrison said. Harrison said while the men terrorized other customers and staff he was deciding when to act. "This was the only time," Harrison said. "If I am going to fight it was that one time. He was approaching me and I saw that as him engaging me." The video shows Williams, gun by his side, walk back toward Harrison, who stands up and fires several shots killing Williams almost instantly. The video then shows Harrison trying to hold Craig at gunpoint. But Craig tries grabbing Harrison's gun and after a struggle Craig escapes. Deputies later caught up with Craig, and he has since been convicted in the robbery. Thanks in part to the surveillance video. Family members question why the gunman was shot dead. I'm impressed by the CWP holders restraint in not shooting the accomplice. Anyone else want to weight in? What would you have done. I'd have shot both. |

Re: Pro-gun article
MDA lying spokeshole:
Shannon Watts claimed she was in a yoga class when she heard about Newtown, rushed home, put up a Facebook page and started a grassroots movement. The truth however is that Shannon is nothing more than a lackey for the 1% who want to see us proles disarmed and subject to the plutocracy they have built in the place of our Republic. Let's look at the evolution of her "organization" from day 1. Day 1 she posts a 3 line narrative on her new Facebook page. Day 3 she has a "Virginia Chapter" despite her page having only 5 comments on her single original post at this point. (All other posts are links to someone else's material). Day 4 has her website gets registered through a GoDaddy proxy which requires extra money for anonymity. Why exactly would a PR executive hide who owns the site, especially one with her penchant for getting in front of a camera (unless it is Dana Loesch's camera- she'll sic armed goons on her). Day 4 also has her in a major USA Today news article- with her FB page having 15 posts in total, only one of which was original content (the 3 line introduction). Why has USA Today featured her for making a FB page with one original post? Day 5 she is on MSNBC talking about gun bans etc. Again she has a FB page with less than 100 likes and one single original posting. ONE. How many FB page admins get invited to a 15 minute MSNBC feature segment based on a single FB post? Day 7 she claims 50 "Chapters" and 8000 members. This is the second piece of original content she posts on her FB page. There is almost no traffic on her page, very few comments made but she has 50 chapters in under 6 days. Day 8 she claims she is the head of a national organization on the third feature article in USA Today on her. 7 days to build a national organization with the infrastructure to manage 50 chapters and 8000+ members, two original FB posts and nationwide news coverage of her to include both print and TV. Based on TWO original FB posts. Day 10 she is on MSNBC for the SECOND time based on a FB page with three original posts. THREE FB posts now gets you featured on a national news show TWICE in 5 days. Yeah- that's the ticket! Day 12 MDA is incorporated. Although it has been 13 days since Newtown only 6 business days have passed. This means that that the concept of MDA was thought up, it was formed, it was organized and incorporated in one business week. All the paperwork, legal work, submission of documents, fees paid and the corporation entered into the State registry took place in a week by MDA's corporate attorney who lives in California. So to believe her version of events, a middle aged suburban housewife is on MSNBC as a national commentator less than a week after making a single original FB post on a page she created with no outside influence. Of course this is a middle aged suburban housewife living in a 1.2 million dollar 7,000 square foot mansion in a lily white gated community whose husband was the CEO of WellPoint (where she worked as a VP) which coincidentally runs Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New York which is the health plan offered to NYC workers by former Mayor Bloomberg (the 16th richest man in the US). Shannon Watts has been a corporate hack for the 1% her entire life. It is what she does. Just like Bloomberg, she believes because she is rich, she should be able to dictate... no DEMAND... that others obey her because she is better than us. Her organization is a total sham, pure astroturf, founded by members of the oligarchy who are scared of the people they are fleecing to enrich themselves and their cronies. She went so far as to not file a Form 990 for almost 3 years in order to hide the source of her funding. Every other 503(c)(4) in the US files a Form 990 otherwise they lose their tax exempt status yet MDA did not and essentially passed the deadline for a successful filing because the plan was to "merge" with MAIG from Day 1. The IRS doesn't have one single record of MDA's even filing as a 503(c)(4) yet Watts claimed from the start they were a non-profit organization. Let me repeat that- the IRS has NO record of a 503(c)(4) filing. Bloomberg knew he had an asset and knew how he was going to use her as soon as the right crisis cropped up. She is as fake as the "facts" she makes up and her sole purpose in life now is to bamboozle women into believing her talking points to keep the money flowing into her pockets. You may disagree politically with the Occupy movement but at their core, this is the kind of shit they were fighting against (at least originally). MDA, Watts and her master Bloomberg are the 1%. They are the filthy rich who are scared shitless of the unwashed peasantry. They are the bourgeois, the self appointed Czars, our supposed masters. I say fuck them, expose them for what they really are and shine the light of truth on them. Then watch them scurry for the shadows like the roaches that they are. Fuck 'em! |
