Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Well, let’s see how badly Snyder and Allen screw this up. Let’s rate this deal according to “Albert Haynesworths”. Like as of right now I think this deal is about 80% as bad as the Albert Haynesworth deal, so I rate it 0.8 Haynesworths. What do you guys think, And how good or bad do you think the cousins situation will end up for the redskins?
If they get a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd + a player, I am calling it a win. At the end of the day, Kirk Cousins had no intentions to remain apart of the team. This is a business, once he made that decision to leave the team, it is management's responsibility to get whats best for the team. At this point...who cares if a deal didn't get done in the 2 years ago. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
When free agency opens, I want our team bringing in guys that will be year next year, not playing chicken with a FA/teams. Want more picks trade down.

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Why are we still talking about Kurt? Let's move on. He didn't want to sign here so we replaced his ass with somebody who did want to be here. Let him enjoy whatever franchise he goes to.

Getting back a 3rd and a player now would just break even, and that doesn't count the extra $, and drama, and uncertainty building an offense around Kirk meantime. And all this the result of a QB we drafted actually becoming good. It's like our FO can't even handle success. At least we aren't making Kirk run conditioning drills to prove he's in shape for contract reasons, like Haynesworth. (yet) |

I agree. Kurt lol |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
“I think everybody got some mixed messages; I will say that,” Thompson said on ESPN’s 980, via the Washington Post. “I know for me, talking to Kirk, being with Kirk, all we talked about was, you know, ‘C.T., with you staying healthy, we can do this with you; we can do that with you,’ and we were able to do a lot of the things that Kirk wanted to do with me. We wanted to continue this, so for me, I expected him to be here. I knew it would be hard given that we want to win, but if you pay a guy [$30 million] a year, it’s going to sacrifice some other things as well, as far as helping our defense out, maybe getting some more receivers, or running backs and all those type of things. It’s kind of hard to say. I think everybody got a different feel about it, but I know Kirk enjoyed being with me, and I enjoyed being with him, so I wanted him to be here and I think part of him wanted to be here, but at the end of the day, you gotta do whatever you think is best for you and your family.”
So sounds like CT is saying Kirk is all about the $$$, I can't blame the guy but still it shows the team wanted to keep him. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000915428/article/chris-thompson-kirk-cousins-sent-mixed-messages |

Because, until we can finally put to bed any remote chance of the 'skins doing some sort of tag and trade, there's still some conversation to be had. I mean, it would be an unusual move for a team to do this, but it's been an unusual situation with Cousins anyway. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
With Jimmy getting 137M over 5 years, Kirk would have gotten at least $140M over 5 maybe more. Someone will pay him that and they will regret it, just like SF will Jimmy.
|
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Jimmy G, $27.5M per season. Smith at $23.5M is looking pretty good.

I think both qbs will perform well. I dont think the teams will regret it at all. Thats the market now, either pay who you like and want or sign someone less talented. Simple as that. |

Kirk its going to get 150 to 170 mil over 5 . . . and i certainly won't regret it being elsewhere |

Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
I just can't wrap my head around someone paying Cousins near 30 million. He is just not worth it. When are these salaries for the QB's going flatline?

When the cap stops going up. It’s all relative to the cap, % wise things really haven’t changed much. |

I'm not so sure he will get more than Jimmy G. I think the Garoppolo contract sets the ceiling for Kirk. We've seen the best of KC and there is enough game to know exactly what you are getting. Garoppolo arrived midseason for a 1 win team and won 5 in a row with three of those wins against playoff teams. Garoppolo has a higher upside and is younger while KC is durable but is also a "Trust the process" QB. I think Garoppolos momentum got him that contract and Kirks image has taken a hit lately. I'm probably wrong since I thought he was going to get 28M Per last week but things have changed overnight. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Zero chance Kirk's deal doesn't exceed JG's.
Zero chance Kirk's deal doesn't exceed JG's.
I tend to disagree. I think JG is all upside and potential, and they had to sign him now. KC has a track record that places him in a certain pecking order, and no team is forced to sign him, there are other options. I will be interested to see where his number comes down, and I would not be shocked to see him wait until after the draft to sign. |

I have to agree with Matty on this. NO chance in hell he doesn't exceed JG's contract. |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Yeah you guys are losing the forest for the trees, it’s going to be a straight up bidding war for Kirk. Remember, skill or potential doesn’t drive the market, leverage does.
|
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
There is the small chance that Kirk takes slightly less money to be on a talented winning team or a team that is a QB away from being great. But does not have a Ton of cap space. Denver?
|
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
I would say that if Denver has to clear the space for Kirk, they will be neither talented nor particularly winning.
|
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
This is an odd year for Qb's. You have probably 3 or 4 similar guys available either as FA or through trades that are NFL quality but not elite.
For example If Denver could get Foles for their 2nd and a player like they tried for AS, that would be preferable for their salary cap then KC and cutting players. Case Keenum likewise fits AR as well as KC but at half the cost. KC exaggerated his value with two FT in a row and showed himself likely to be difficult to negotiate with. Teams will look at all of that. Then teams still have several quality options in the draft. Bottom line Kirks number is closer to AS worth than an elite top level QB, and teams have more options than might be normally available. |
The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
KC is going to get paid. Sorry but he’s not getting Alex Smith money. He’s set to be the top free agent period and will have multiple teams after him.
|
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
AS > KC all day based on contracts and team chemistry. I think a QB that goes 8-8ish every year that is making 30 million dollars is terrible for team chemistry. Eventually guys are gonna resent not just that you're making that much, but that the team can't sign or keep other guys because you're making that much. Excited to move on and we'll draft our long term future QB to learn for a year or 2 next draft.

KC will be the highest paid player until the Rodgers deal.

Yes Brees |
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
I can see Brees taking a discount
|
Re: The FINAL Kirk Cousins Saga thread. 5.0
Bree’s is not going to get a longer term deal. He turned 39 January 15th. He will receive a three year deal for big money but KC will get a five year for huge money. The whole time Rodgers is sitting at home laughing because Green Bay will have to surpass all of the current contracts.
