Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I thought the Browns offered a 1st before the season started last year
Nope - Keim and other beat reporters have debunked that. It was likely a lie bruce put out to drum up interest to try and get another team to actually offer a first. Didn't work. My hunch is that there was likely a time early last year when we could have gotten their 2020 2nd though. Which looks great now. But there was a time last year when the browns looked to be a team on the rise (potentially lower pick in round 2) and the Texans gave up 2 first plus for Tunsil… so I cant really Blame bruce for being firm on a first. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the Cleveland Browns front office is "furious" at the Washington Redskins over the Trent William situation. Specifically, Robinson is reporting the Browns were willing to send a first round pick to Washington for Trent Williams six weeks ago, putting a deal in the middle of September. The Redskins were unwilling to make a deal then, but tried to call the Browns back before the trade deadline, hoping they could still get that first round pick. The Browns refused. essentially hanging up the phone on them.
The biggest part of the story is going to be the dumpster fire located in Ashburn, Virginia, but the takeaway should be the fact that Browns general manager John Dorsey was fully prepared to mortgage a significant asset in a horrible trade. Six weeks ago, the trade was still a horrible idea. https://www.si.com/nfl/browns/news/charles-robinson-cleveland-browns-furious-at-washington-redskins-over-trent-williams reported that the Browns offered a 1st. reported that that report was not accurate meh ... get a 2nd if you can or 2 3rds and move on. Really curious what Trents asking potential teams in terms of contract. If we wants 20 AAV ... teams wouldnt give us a 4th for that.
As I've said repeatedly, that report has been debunked. Browns never offered a first. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
So Trent Williams agent says skins are not acting in good faith .. says team is unreasonable in there trade demands.. hmmm .. so let me get this straight Williams wants to be paid like one of the highest Oline players in league but wants redskins to let him walk for chump change or some mid rnd pick ... you can’t have it both ways .. i would tell his agent IF he is worth the contract you are after then it’s at least a number 2 round pick and maybe more .. or let him sit

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I read somewhere the trade possibilities for Trent Williams ... those teams who have a need for a LT, and the cap room to afford TW, and the draft capital to trade for him ...
It was the usual suspects -- Cleveland, Jetties, blah blah ... But the long shot was Miami ... The Dolphins have 3 first rounders, 2 second rounders and a third rounder. With a rookie QB being drafted, one with injury history, they'll want a good LT. And they still have a bunch of room under the cap ............... What do you all think? Is this really possible? Could the Skins actually wind up with a 2nd rounder for TW? |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
NO ONE is trading for Trent unless he backs off of his ridiculous contract demands. Every team that has inquired about a trade said "no thanks" and lost interest when they found out what he wanted.
https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/03/25/jameis-winston-no-market-mailbag
my understanding is there have been suitors out there for Trent Williams. The trouble is—and I’ll be very clear about this—almost 100% his contract situation. Last year, word circulated that Williams asked the Redskins for quarterback money. And the Redskins found interest over the last few weeks in Williams, only to have suitors push away from the table when apprised of the seven-time Pro Bowl tackle’s financial demands. Thing is, asking another team for a first- or second-round pick for a player is a lot. You’re giving up a piece of capital that can bring in a young, top player under cost control for the next four or five years—or maybe multiple players, if you trade for, then move the pick. So the player being dealt for has to be good and really valuable to begin with. But if, then, that player wants to break the bank, too? And if he’s in his 30s? Again, it’s a lot. That’s not to say Williams may not have a legitimate beef with the team, or that he isn’t worth more than he’s making. It’s just that if he really wants to be traded, he has to realistic about it, and work with the team here, since he’s under contract. If he’s more worried about making top dollar? Then play the year out, and hit the market next March. It’s that simple.
|

He wont. The lack of guaranteed money is the entire reason Trent held out to begin with. in 2015, the redskins made Trent Williams the highest paid offensive linemen in NFL history. They did this despite numerous suspensions for weed and injuries keeping of the field. Trent WANTED a front-loaded contract, and the team gave it to him. This resulted in the back-end (2019 and 2020) not being guaranteed. Trent knew this, and signed the contract. It would seem that his plan, all along, was to play during the front-loaded portion of the contract, then hold out unless he got a new contract (presumably also front-loaded). Essentially, Trent wants to have his cake and eat it too. His plan has to essentially try to take advantage of the team in such a way that every year he actually plays football that all (or almost all) of the contract is guaranteed. With few exceptions (Kirk Cousins), this is just not how NFL contracts work. To be honest, a team would be stupid to trade for Trent. He is not honoring the contract of a team that made him the highest paid player at his position before - why would he not do the same thing to his new team as soon as the guaranteed money runs out? In a sense, it would be like having an affair with a married woman and then marrying her yourself. You can do it, if you want. But dont expect anyone to show you any sympathy when she cheats on you with someone else. |

I can't help thinking he might be trying to get us to pay part of his salary wherever he goes, so we can get rid. I kind of parting shot to kick us where it hurts?

Trent needs to stop being a baby bitch and show up or sit out. If they can't move him.
I'm tired of that bs |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
"They're not being stubborn.” Redskins want comparable value for Trent Williams but source tells me it could be a pair of picks, pick and a player or picks for 2020 and 2021.

He does. I think his agent should focus more on the trade, rather than trying to win the PR battle. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I say unless we get a good offer, 2nd or higher, which doesn’t look like it will happen, wait until after the draft. You KNOW there will be a couple teams who miss on getting an OT they want and need a veteran guy. Even if we get future picks, getting higher picks next year is a better option than getting crap this year in my opinion.

I had to do a double take, he is literally insane if he thinks he can sit out for a year, force his way out on his own terms (trying to get out without us getting fair compensation in the process) and still come back and be in the Ring of Fame. We hold the cards, he will either play for us or we will trade him for fair compensation. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Bruce screwed this up last year and the best deal would probably come from the Texans, not the Browns.
The biggest problem is Trent’s agent feeding who his head with ideas like getting $20 mill in one season. I think the Redskins would take a 3rd and a 4th now, but Trent’s just got to drop his number. Last year he was going to get just $12.9 mill and NO guaranteed money. If he was more reasonable like $15mill we’d have a deal. I don’t think we’ll get a second rounder for Trent. The rumor of the Jets deal of two x third rounders would be something the Redskins would take now. Anyway, this will be something that goes down to the wire before the draft. The Redskins will get two draft picks in the third and fourth range. I frankly don’t care what Trent gets. I just want this drama to be over and to think of the draft picks we get. Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I don't find it a distraction it's the off season and I'm chilling at home anyway. TW is talking teams saying I'm a 7x Pro Bowler show me the money. But when the Skins say TW is a 7x Pro Bowler show us the high draft pick(s). TW's camp say we are being unreasonable.

One thing I have learned through all of this is Trent Williams is a pretty stupid guy. And his agent is probably dumber than he is.

I just don't get this could've/should've/would've about Bruce last year. Trent's running into the same problem he had last year because of his own doing. This current regime is not the dysfunctional clusterf*ck that was last year's regime. |
