While Nationals may be boring it has a history dating back to the 1870s as the name for Washington's baseball team.

I like Red Wolves and Sentinels. For me Sentinels is a nod to the Skins Glory days - and when our team beat the Cowboys - through the movie Replacements , and fits for DC and Washington. I really don't want Warriors or Red Tails.

But I am sure it will be Warriors :(

Washington Hogs

It would be a nice tribute to Joe Bugel and throwback to the most successful years of the franchise. Marketability- Hogs are easy. We already have the Hogettes and other folks who dress up at games with pig noses. We can have pig races at tailgates. Adopt a hog mascot to run across the field for pregames. Hell bring a few more to the party and have a stampede. Food pork themes. Vegan pig. Cups/mugs that dual as pig noses when you raise your glasses. Stuffed animal pig toys. Oinking crowd noises.

Why does this work well as a football mascot? Hogs are agressive animals. Smart too. Always getting dirty and throwing their weight around. A tough mascot to exemplify a tough football team.

I would honestly love the Hogs. But I don't think it's happening. Didn't receive much support online, and would be easy to joke on.

Hogs was a nickname for the OL which was awesome but it's not really a great name for the team.. I guess he could go with the Razorbacks logo but what other pig logo works?

Love your whole post except for giving money to those extremists at PETA. Find a legitimate partner, not one that has been caught throwing dogs and cats in dumpsters while preaching ethical treatment of animals...and throwing animal blood on women with fur coats. Donate to free range farms and prop up humane producers. Farmers who supply restaurants have been suffering greatly through the pandemic, they could use support.

The team would be served well, and Snyder, to turn the new name into an outreach opportunity.

Of course, in D.C., if you choose the "wrong" charity (politically) you'll get crap from the same people that just canceled your name.

Effective immediately, Washington will call itself the “Washington Football Team”, pending adoption of a new name, sources tell ESPN.

This is not a final renaming and rebranding for team; this is the name it wants to use until pending adoption of a new name in the future.

Would be hilarious if the team ends up appearing in the Super Bowl with that uniform. The league will hate itself for the embarrassment of a team with no name or logo in the big game...will severely limit their merchandising profits. :D


I was expecting something like this as a Madden 21 placeholder, but not on the field.

Once we get a Redwolves logo, throw it on one side of the helmet and keep the numbers on the other side for the rest of the year...might have something cool.

Glad they're not rushing anything, a good design could take 2 years.

Homerism for sure, but this team has a ton of potential.

The NFC Beast is now the worst division in football, anything can happen.

Aside from not sounding stupid, an NFL team needs a nickname for marketing and merchandising success. Going the soccer route will not be popular, just as soccer has never gained mass popularity in the USA despite so much money and effort by the sports media to prop it up.

Washington FC would be the worst team name in ALL of major pro sports. (not considering soccer a major pro sport)

Alabama is far from the only team to use numbers on helmets. The Cleveland Browns and LA Chargers had numbers on helmets Hardly a knockoff.

Fun fact - The Browns AND Alabama both added numbers to helmets in 1957.

Although our 'Bama defense probably loves the look.
