Thanks. So now, how many players were in the Supp Draft? Whatever article I read said there was only 3 or 4 worthy of being picked.

Well it doesn't cost anything so I would ask McMahon to come in and tryout. He's a 6-3 290lb. center-guard. Maybe Boyd. Has good size for a strongside LB at 6-3 250. He also led his team in tackles but is supposedly an average athlete.

I understand all were in the Supp Draft for a reason and I have not looked at all of them, but I thought perhaps one of the WR's could come in (as if we don't have enough all ready) and challenge for a spot. Then I read up on Corey Surrency...oh my god....

Florida State WR Corey Surrency

Like most players entering the NFL Supplemental Draft, Surrency has a colorful past leading him to the NFL’s special draft.

NCAA denied his request for another year of eligibility. [B]The former Seminole dropped out of high school in the ninth grade and received his GED in jail[/B]. After playing for a semi-pro team called the Florida Kings, Surrency (6’4", 226 lbs.) attended El Camino Community College before transferring to FSU in 2008.

In his very limited NCAA career, Surrency, who has great size and the speed to go with it, showed flashes, catching 12 balls for 237 yards (19.8 avg.) and four touchdowns. However there are lingering character issues around this over-aged prospect (25 years old) as he was suspended twice in 2008, missing one game each time for separate off-the-field incidents.

Definitely looks like a non-selection in the Supplemental Draft with some team giving him a shot in training camp or on a practice squad. Reminds me of Arena League player Larry Brackins of the Philadelphia Soul who has had NFL stops with the Jets and Buccaneers.

Because there are a bunch of guys that were given second round grades at that point. Barnes had a second round game from this team. There was probably at least one defensive lineman who would have had a higher grade than Jarmon at the pick.

This pick was based on a need for the Redskins. Remember Jason Taylor was released and we got only 1year from him. We resign Wynn and Daniels who are both veterans but dont have much left in the tank. Orakpo is not playing DE so far so we needed to add young talent at the DE positon. Our front office graded Jarmon to be a possible 2nd round pick in 2010. Their is no way of knowing this for sure unless he played his senior season which would determine how well he played. So based on Jarmon's talent from his past 3 seasons at Kentucky we really wanted to land him. To ensure we got him we were willing to give up a 3rd pick from the 2010 draft. This worked now we have a young DE to groom this season instead of 2010. Who knows in 2010 he may have been projected to go in the 1st round if he had a monster senior year. Its all a gamble.

I think it a good move. I hope he learns how to play DE in the NFL front the Vets and brings a much needed speed from the edge on passing downs, while haynesworth crashes the middle. As an offensive coordinator I would be having fits planning for this defense.

How can you post a poll about a player we picked up 3 days ago, that hasnt played a snap in the NFL, and "don't know yet" isnt an option.

I believe it was a good move. I think Jarmon can play and the important thing is that this wasn't trading a draft pick for a 30+ year old player. Jarmon came out of college because he tested positive for a banned diuretic. Hell, Luis Castillo went in the first round of the draft after he used PED's a few years ago. I don't believe there are any red flags in regards to Jarmon and he may be able to contribute some this year, but he should be a much larger contributor next year (which would have been his rookie year had he stayed in school).

I think this is a good move with small risk. Who knows what round he WOULD've been drafted in.. If he was allowed to play, then he could have had a *great* year or a really crappy year. Nevertheless, his predictions were for a third round pick, right?

Justin Tuck is a star, but it seems like in general third round DE's are hit or miss. Time will tell if it was a good decision or not - but I guess if he turns out halfway decent we've gotten value for our 3rd round pick. And he sure has a great situation being next to AH/AC/Rak..

The flip side is -- are we expecting too much for a DE that was only expected to go in the late early rounds. Of course draft predictions are crap, so we'll never know where he would have been drafted.

You're right. A conditional yes then, if he's playing 18-20 years olds in a below average college conference next year, then he'll be the 2nd or 3rd best DE in our college conference.
