Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
There definitely is. There always is. I don't know that Vinny/Allen was a total shock. But even the most inside of insiders were completely thrown off by Gibbs and Marty.
I mean I think Shanahan is the most likely right now, but there's absolutely a mystery candidate out there.
have you heard this for sure or are you just going by the fact that there always is? |

No I'm just going off of past history. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
If I had to bet I would say Shanahan is still the top choice... seems to be too many reliable sources backing that up.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
I agree Shanahan is Snyder's top choice... just everything i've read indicates the feeling is not mutual. So i beleive the mystery candidate is a "Plan B" with enough pizzaz to make skins fans forget all about Shanahan.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
But Who?? Who could it be? Gruden?
I just seriously had the worse thought ever.....Snyder brings back Gibbs for a 3rd coaching stint.... |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Do we have a plan B in the event we do not land Shanahan? If so, who do you think that might be?

I just seriously had the worse thought ever.....Snyder brings back Gibbs for a 3rd coaching stint....
I honestly thought of that too after I responded to Matty's post about Snyder catching everyone by surprise. I just can't see Gibbs coming back to the sideline at this point. I don't think there's any amount of $ that would convince him. On the other hand, the talk on this site about Gibbs being in the front office made some sense until Allen was hired. I guess there's still the possibility of Gibbs in the FO to handle personnel, but it seems so unlikely w/Allen on board. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
good point. let's throw out some possibilities:
Keeping Zorn Jerry Gray or Danny Smith Marty Fassel Grimm P. Carroll or other big name college coach
Good guesses. Might add Billick to that list. Wouldn't totally disregard Cowher. But I think if it's not Shanahan. You might look at some other choices such as Shanahan's son, Marty's son, Mike Zimmer, and Leslie Frazier. But at this point we're getting into like Plan J |

Papa John for head coach?? I do love the cheesy bread. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Exactly. Gibbs was a Coryell guy (think Al Saunders for those that don't know) and ended up with a power smash-mouth offense.
Nothing can diminish the accomplishments of Joe Gibbs, they stand alone unchallenged by any other Redskins coach. What seperated Gibbs' 0-5 start from that of Marty Schottenheimer's, Gibbs inherited a much better team. Those three HOF's (always felt Mosley) should have been a fourth contributed greatly to his success. |

He inherited Riggo, Monk and Moseley. Who's the 3rd? |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Mysterious candidate? Please be Cowher as head coach and Grimm as OC.

He didn't exactly inherit Darrell Green but he came two years later. |
