Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Don't be surprised if Manusky is our next DC and Ron Jeremy (Jim Tomsula) gets hired as a DL coach.
From Matt Barrows (covers the 49ers) Am told former #49ers HC Jim Tomsula is on Washington's radar as that team fills out its coaching staff. Tomsula was out of football in '16. |

Neither Bradley nor Pettine wants to come here and we have no choice but to promote from within and hire guys who couldn't get hired last year. This is horrible. |

No idea how a retread like that would even be in consideration. If they get the job/s it would take a major infusion of talent for me to even be confident about next year. The fact that Wade had concerns about our talent and we think we're a couple pieces away tells me they are looking for a guy who also thinks we're a couple pieces away. My long term outlook would be very poor if that's the case. |

Manusky did a great job here in SF, unfortunately the offense sucked. I saw what he did here and I think he's as good as Bradley and Pettine. He has played for Richie Petitbone, is a former player (the other 2 aren't) dude is fucking intense and would probably jump on the field. Tomsula is a solid DL coach who did a great job and got him promoted to HC (he didn't do well there). I wouldn't have a problem with him as our DC. Vrabel would be my #1 choice and he's very much like Manusky. |
Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
I would be encouraged about Manusky and I might be the only one. He has experience, he did great with Scot when he was on the 49ers.
He also had the best group of our defense. The Linebackers all improved and he got the best out of mediocre unit between Foster and Will Compton. We really need an experienced defensive coordinator coming in. I think bringing in another guy doing his first or second round as a DC is a bit risky. |

We probably need to get used to the idea of Mansuky, because I feel he's probably going to be promoted. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

You guys might remember those San Fran defenses as great, but the rankings don't lie. Yeah I know rankings don't tell the whole story, but other than two years where his San Fran defenses were top 10 in points everything else is average to mediocre. And he's never been top 10 in yards. Other than 1 year he's been average to mediocre in takeaways. We have an opportunity to bring in coaches who not only have the stats to back it up, they also can elevate the players through their teaching and keeping the scheme simple enough that players don't have to think. Why settle for less? I don't need to hear about energy and passion, we rode that train with Joe Barry. I'm beginning to suspect that was the whole reason he was hired, he was young, and full of energy. He certainly didn't have the resume for the job. |

Sadly, Washington inside the coaching circles isn't looked at as a good place to go. Guys like Phillips or Bradley probably have options and will go elsewhere. But Pettine was out of coaching last year. I'm sure he'd take the DC job in a heartbeat. |

I'd be happy with Pettine, because defenses get better quickly under him. That's a sign of better coaching of similar talent to me. Somebody mentioned that maybe we're waiting for a coach on a playoff team- that could make sense. The 'skins seem to be dragging their feet & maybe that's the reason. I think we've poached everyone from Tampa by now, so maybe we're waiting on the "ball boy" in Seattle- my sources tell me that he has a lot of energy. |
Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
Manusky will be a fine D coordinator!! all these big names out there but i will tell you that New england would hire from within.. I hope they do go with manusky.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry
As far I am concerned Manusky was part of the 28th rank defense disaster. Him being hired as DC would make me think we still have a bad reputation among coaches. I want Pettine.
