Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
What does anyone know about Marcus Maxey from the U? He is a big CB (6'1", 198) with a decent 40 time (4.52).
Hes one of those Miami guys that was plessed with the physical/athletic tools, but was there behind guys like Antrel Rolle and other top corners. Hes rough around the edges, but would be our nickel bback and we have GW and Grey to coach him up. He has similar size to springs and coudl replace him in a few years. |

Thats the kind of positive review I like to hear. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
last year the canes had a top five overal all defense and pass defense, he was a part of that.
The guy to watch is kenny philips. They say he has the body of Taylor but the hands of Ed Reed. (Personally I think Reed, even though hes put up the numbers, doesnt have near the upside that Taylor does). But either way, Philips is a stud. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
Give me Maxey or give me death!
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread

Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread

Anthony Montgomery Height: 6-4 7/8 | Weight: 311 | 40-Time: 5.24 Official Bio Strengths: Has outstanding size and a huge frame with very long arms...Still has growth potential...Very athletic...Can penetrate and collapse the pocket...Agile and moves well with good range...Hard worker...Shows flashes of brilliance...Still has upside. Weaknesses: Doesn't provide much in terms of a pass rush and only has 8 career sacks...Is not very quick and timed speed is just average at best...Needs to play with better leverage...Is not as tough, strong or physical as he should be given his size. Notes: Is also being considered as a potential offensive tackle prospect...From purely a measurables standpoint this guy has everything you look for...Someone might take a chance on him late as a developmental guy due to his great physical tools. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
Anthony Montgomery?
Who? |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
seems like he is a big occupying player, just takes up the blockers. hopefully blatche can coach him up
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
I've got 3 mags here that rate Rodrique Wright, DT Texas as a 2nd or 3rd rnd pick and they all have Montgomery as not even being drafted.
I don't know who to believe anymore. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
hmm are we going all Def this draft?
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
OK. Now, we need to trade up some and get Anwar or Dee Webb. Just not sure how we would accomplish that.

I doubt it. But we don't have time to make him into a OL. |

They had one of the worst D's last year, and the Cavs and Marcus Hagans destroyed them in the Music City Bowl. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
Babatunde Oshinowo and Rodrique Wright are still available. But can you second guess Blache?
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
rodrique wright was supposed to be a first rounder if he came out last year i think!

The Music City Bowl is not a BCS Bowl. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
I think we may have just blown that pick.
Oh well, we pick again in 16 picks. If we can still walk with Anwar or Dee Webb I'll forgive them.:) |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
The Music City Bowl is not a BCS Bowl.
I was being sarcastic for those who think the BCS sucks.
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
I wonder if the Chargers would take a 7th for Donnie Edwards? Just a thought.
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
I hope Gerrick McPhearson is around in the 6th
|
I was being sarcastic for those who think the BCS sucks.
Okay, then sorry, it's hard to pick up sarcasm from text. I, actually concur that the BCS blows, but the reason I corrected you was because I don't think it should get a bad rap for all the other bowls that suck. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
I have a huge UVa bia, so I am going out on a limb and saying Marcus Hagans for the Rams is going to an Antwaan Randle El-like player, and he will be great. He was a pretty good QB for us, single handled beat FSU and Minn last year, and he is a decent reciever and punt returner, he is basically like AR-E, but Im guessing he can throw better. Was inconsistent at times, but is VERY talented.
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
dont really see him having the same impact of randle el really...
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
I agree but I think Anwar Phillips has even more upside.
i know i'm late, but maxey has more upside than anwar cause he's faster. |

Oh well, we pick again in 16 picks. If we can still walk with Anwar or Dee Webb I'll forgive them.:)
Ya damn skippy. This draft could turn out good overall for us. Two many of those can't miss prospects go bust. Give me a guy the coaches like. |
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
What does everbody think of MD CB Gerrick McPhearson? It sounds like with some coaching he could be decent. He also runs a 4.28!
|
Re: Official 2006 NFL Draft Thread
i know i'm late, but maxey has more upside than anwar cause he's faster.
I would've liked Maxey over Anwar too but that's history. To get Anwar with our next pick would be good. Use him as a DB.
