He's been above the league in sack rate just twice in his career, and once in a 10+ game season. He's basically no improvement on Campbell in terms of pocket presence. I hear Bruce Gradkowski is available though, should we decide to run the chuck and duck. |

I hate it when I'm out of town with no access to a computer when information like this breaks. I had to find this out via text message. I told my brother April fools was 3 days ago. I can't believe this. I guess I have to change my signature to team Okung now?

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
Stuff like Gradkowski>Campbell is low-hanging fruit. I do not want to hear what does and does not tell the "whole story" when you're just flat out lying to me.
You can't claim self-evidence as logical support when your arguments are entirely faith based. I'll do you the courtesy of not accepting your failures here as support for my arguments validity, and I wouldn't jump to a conclusion and rule out the fact that there's genius in this move that neither of us can see, but I'm just going to reject most if not all of your premises here as some mix of false and insignificant. I don't consider it significant that McNabb has experience in the Reid WCO, seeing as the only defense for this trade would be that Shanahan is going to use him more optimally. I have no idea what you mean by McNabb "knows how to play on the run". He doesn't complete too many of his deep balls, so perhaps he should take some of that great touch off of it. McNabb isn't Rodgers (that one was particularly easy). Faith in Shanahan, faith in Shanahan, anybody but Campbell, "trust the process". Got it.
Boo-hoo. Shanahan's track record and with QBs and the abilities those QBs had is why I'm going all gaga for McNabb. McNabb has mobility, arm strength, ability to attack the deep secondary, and the ability to extend the play. He may not be BETTER than the two HOFs and Cutler, but he sure as hell should be able to run the system just fine, and certainly better than Campbell. Gradkowski>Campbell is emprically based. They're roughly the same, but Gradkowski wins in terms of pocket presence and decision making. The dropoff from him and Russell was enormous. You're assuming Campbell is like a monster sponge in terms of acquiring human capital for QB'ing such that he can comparably compete with folks in the top tier or near-top tier of QBs. I'll wait to see the day he undergoes such a miraculous transformation. However, if he's to "burst out" in such a manner, then all of those "just as adequate" arguments fall by the wayside since he improved in such a manner that he's went "up" into a higher status. You argue that the benefit of acquiring McNabb is only slightly more than Campbell, and thus not worth the cost. This assumes extreme degradation in McNabb's human capital. I find it highly doubtful Campbell, or any other football player, has such a capacity to learn "quarterbacking" such that he'll suddenly explode onto the scene somewhere. He may be adequate, but he's not indispensible. Deep plays are low percentage by nature. Even so, the Eagles are sure committed to attempting those big plays. I wonder why. Perhaps it emphasizes the QB's strengths? Strengths that would translate in the the Shanahan big play offense? Exactly. McNabb fits the profile better than Campbell. We'll see bootlegs. Don't worry about it faith based. After all, having two Broncos games on my computer surely means all those rollouts called were just an anomaly. Surely a rare deviation from the straight drop back and pass playcalls. Besides, it's not like other QBs Shanny coached had some ability to make plays with their mobility...or is it? Plummer, Cutler, Young, and Elway all could move around in the pocket adequately and scramble. Campbell is a pocket passer, McNabb can scramble "naturally". |

He's basically no improvement on Campbell in terms of pocket presence. I hear Bruce Gradkowski is available though, should we decide to run the chuck and duck.
This can be condensed into the following conditional. "If a QB is sacked frequently, then he has slow feet." This does not reflect the tape of QBs like Elway or Young, as they both had their fair share of 30+ sack seasons. Thusly, this If...then statement does not hold. |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
I can see McNabb finding Cooley alot next year.
Yeah seriously. I found some interesting parallels. Moss - Jackson: Jackson is much better right now in terms of ability however Moss is better at reading defenses. Both are speedsters that can break big plays. Advantage - Jackson Maclin vs Thomas: Is this really a contest. Maybe we'll come back in a year and look on it but for now it's like expecting to spin gold from straw. Advantage - Maclin Kelly vs Curtis: Curtis isn't good enough to be a top 2 reciever in Philly but his track record makes him more attractive Advantage - Curtis Cooley vs Celek: You might be thinking who? Yeah this is the guy that put up 971 yards and 8 TD's last year. Cooley has a longer track record and a lot less stability at the QB position. And certainly we can all agree that Shanahan isn't going to drag his feet on the best TE prospect he's had in years. Then again maybe he gets traded. Advantage - Cooley |

.
I going to demonstrate right here and now why no one should listen to anything you have to say when it comes to football. When it comes to balls of of 21+ yards McNabb has a QB rating of 100(According to ESPN). So when you say he doesn't complete many of his deep balls it's total bullshit. |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
Yea, if Okung is there, it's a no brainer. But, what if he is gone?
|
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
Mcnabb is actually 9/18 for passes that traveled 30+ yards. Pretty damn good at getting it to his guy so far away. Now before anyone brings up his abysmal 2008 stats in the same categories, I do recall Jackson dropping a perfect deep ball against us in the second Iggles game that season.
Also, he produced similar numbers to JC17 in FEWER GAMES. Hell, if he had thrown for 200 yds in the games he didn't play, he would have be closing in on a 4000 yard season . |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
McNabb is not Brett Farve. Yes, he will win us more games than Campbell but, this team is no better than past PHI teams so, why think McNabb will put tbe Skins over the top? Skins will draft a QB!
|
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
MNabb may not bring us a SB championship, but he brings our offense instant validity. Although we do not have an apparent top flight receiving corps, I do recall #5 playing the Iggles into Division Titles slinging to the likes of Freddie Mitchell and Todd Pinkston. I think he could do good things with Moss/Thomas/Kelly and a coach who wants to run the football.

This could work out for 1 season but all it does is delay the inevitable fact that the Skins dont have a long term franchise QB and until they solve that problem its going to be more of the same.

Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
Why this trade isn't being met with the skepticism of bringing in an older declining vet, like early Snyder moves, is beyond my understanding. Was McNabb very good or excellent in his prime, yes, I know I hated watching him beat up on us in the early 2000's. But that's not the McNabb we are getting, and we gave up too much to get him. Again, the Warpath poll was 3 to 1 against bringing him here. Where are all the people who talk about the Eagles getting rid of a guy a year early, and how wise that is. Well we just received the guy they got rid of, and in a year (even assuming McNabb signs an extension which we have no obvious guarantee) we will be back with no QB, or a 35 yo with declining ability and one less pick, and no young qb to groom (like McCoy or Tebow reasonably could have been).
Well said. All of what you've said is perfectly valid. I suspect that many who were against McNabb at the outset have no choice but to accept what's happened because we're Redskins fans and Donovan McNabb is now a Redskin. We have to deal with less picks in the draft than just about every team every single year. I'm sick of that, and it's not something I expected with Shanahan and Allen. Clearly, they aren't following the 'rebuild and suck it up for a year or two' rule. They are all in to win right now. I don't like the draft situation, but I'm betting they'll do all they can to trade down and pick up more as they go along. |

we have so many holes on this team, we can't address them all in one year. we now can take a LT without hesitation. mcnabb is a great stop gap measure. he will serve us well for a couple of years until there is a young qb available in either the draft/fa that the shannys like. mcnabb is an upgrade over JC, and he is now on our team, no idea why this is seen as a bad move. |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
JC is going to bring us a 2nd round pick.
McNabb knows our new offense, he has ran it for 11 seasons. He knows the Eagles Offense and Defense in and out. Thats two wins right there. |
Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
There are some pretty bold statements in the link below written by John Clayton over at ESPN, including this little number: "The McNabb trade makes the Redskins and Cowboys the early favorites to win the NFC East, and puts the Eagles, who have moved 10 players this offseason, into just a wild-card possibility at best."
Wow John Clayton, thats a little too bold. I mean god knows I hope its true, but sheesh. I'm not sure why he's giving different answers, but it's hard to know which one is true Some other thoughts on other posts in this thread- -If we got a 2nd for Campbell straight up, that would be redonkulous. An absolute steal considering how weak the market has been for him -Matt Williamson is great but Mosley isn't trying to "sell a story" anymore than he is -Mosley has had, by his own admittance, conflicted thoughts on this trade. He's not totally anti-McNabb to the Skins, nor pro -Mosley is not a Redskins hater. Some people think that because he worked for the Dallas Morning News, but it's actually far, very far, from the truth -Don't look at this trade in a vacuum. More moves will be made. Best to judge things three weeks from now -This was not a Snyder move. As I understand it, Bruce Allen was actually the first one to suggest making a move for McNabb |

This would minimize my dislike of the trade, but I don't see it happening.
McNabb knows our new offense, he has ran it for 11 seasons. Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!
He's a 33 which is not old for a QB in this league. Look at some of the playoff QBs last year, Warner 37, Favre 40, Manning 33, Brees 30. It's not uncommon for guys to play well into their late 30s these days. So I'm really not understanding those that think McNabb is going to be done in a year or two. He could easily play another 5 years, especially in an offense like this that is going to feature the run.
