Good performance by Sam, but I'd sure hate to see the rookie behind this line. |

U know when I said draft Sam everyone ragged on me.. He has no WR and no Oline and is playing really good so far

Re: Week 8: Redskins vs. Lions Gameday thread
No qb in the history of the universe can succeed with that kind of offensive line play. That was freakin embarassing.

We r 4-4 .500 team at best this season.

There were a few of us who said that Bradford was going to be a beast. I was one of them and yes you were right. He is awesome. |
I guess I never really paid much attention to the Lions D-line, apart from Suh. Of all the ways I thought we might lose this game, offensive line protection wasn't one of them.
I did. The Packers game was more than enlightening to see how shitty they were. I took a wild guess and viewed Suh as a juiced up AH who is much more consistent. |
Re: Week 8: Redskins vs. Lions Gameday thread
But really we had no chance at Bradford anyways.

Yeah but we could have had our QB for the next decade or so. Anyway, not hating on McNabb. Glad we got him and thrilled we have Trent Williams, but man Bradford is something special |

I'm not even that mad honestly. We were 4-12 last season, 8-8 would be a food year

I agree, this is an 8-8 team and they are right on-track for that. IMO, its so far so good this season. |

And what's this we're lucky to be 4-4 crap? Why aren't we unlucky to be 5-3 or 6-2?

Pencil in two losses against the Giants again this year. No way our line can handle them if we can't handle Vanden Bosch and Suh. |
Re: Week 8: Redskins vs. Lions Gameday thread
Also, this game has me really thinking the McNabb pickup wasn't that much of a improvement over JC. I am not saying Donovan isn't that much better than JC, he is a lot better than JC, but I am really wondering if we were better served keeping those picks and just riding out the storm with JC. Donovan is a quality QB, but damn, with the line probably going to be a sore spot til 2012 realisitically, his effectiveness is going to be truly hampered until then, and by then he could end up a walking injury or just be on the sownward slope of his career.

Not sure what that has to do about my post about the first 8 games, but I believe we can split with the Giants though it will be very very tough. The Giants are much better than I thought they would be |

Dude, I owe you a big apology about Bradford. I thought he would end up like Leinhart because he went to a powerhouse, with a wicked offensive scheme or he would end up a walking injury. That guy is the real deal and I will cheer for him for sure the rest of the way. I always thought he was a nice guy, just didn't think he would make a good pro, since he came from a stacked team. |

This team is 2-6 with JC at QB and the season was over 2 weeks ago. This team is 4-4 and still a lot to play for. |

Donovan isn't the problem for sure, the lack of an effective line and only two decent Wrs isn't going to get the job done. Stafford hit all starting Wrs, Donovan only two. Can't win ballgames when your new feature back is only getting a yard per carry(Williams had like 4 ypc). |

I agree. McNabb has made some great plays at key moments. If you think McNabb is getting sacked a lot, Jason would be on his back even more WHILE just checking down way too quick -- at least we have a big play possibility this year. I'm very upset with Shan, but I'm not going to complain and throw any coach under the bus. I want consistency, and I want him to have his three years to build before I complain. |
Re: Week 8: Redskins vs. Lions Gameday thread
You know, you can change the culture around here, you can instill hope and confidence all you want, but you can't win games if your offensive line can't run block or protect the qb.
Btw that was a bad decision to bench McNabb for Rex at the end of the 4th. I know you're trying to win games and give us a better chance, but 1. Sexy Rexy does not have any timing down with the receivers (I'd love to see the percentage of practice reps he's gotten with the first team from his time of signing up until now), 2. A bad offensive line will kill you no matter who's playing behind it, and 3. Even if he does win the game, you might be planting the seed of doubt in McNabb's head that he would want to sign an extension and finish the year. But that's not to say that'd be a good thing, because his play this season hasn't exactly made us rush to sign him to an extension. All I know is that there is a lot of questions left to be answered after this upcoming bye week. Shanny benching McNabb isn't the same as Reid benching McNabb, those two had a history together and McNabb probably knew he'd get his job back. Shanny and McNabb have had 8 games together, and are obviously still in the getting to know each other phase. |

Yeah I agree, but my point is we are not going to win if Donovan is stuck with this line and to properly rebuild it, you might not see a decent line til 2012 or beyond. By that time Donovan is over the hill or a walking injury due to the lack of protection. Also in the scheme of things if we went 2-6 or 4-4 before the bye, what difference does that make? 4-12 or 8-8 isn't going to get you invited to the big playoff party. THe loss of two picks in 2011 set us back a bit for rebuilding the offensive line. |

This organization has given away alot more pick and gotten a lot less in return than they have for the 2 pick they gave for DM. This year in the NFC 8-8 might just do the trick and who know they could get luck and get to 9-7, with DM they actually have a shot at getting lucky, with JC they had no shot at anything. |

2 weeks until MNF, much can happen

How do you figure? DMc hasn't exactly set the earth on fire. My point isn't that Donovan is bad, but the team around him is substandard, and by the time the FO does build a true contender Donovan might be used up or broken up. Did you think Donovan will get lucky with only two bona fide wideouts and a crappy line? He gives us a better chance at winning close games yeah, but is he still going to be effective in 2012? |

I understand your thinking from a long term aspect, just wondering what an offensive line as inept as ours would do for his short, or long term confidence. In hind-sight I'd still love to have him because I knew from the beginning McNabb was going to be short term at best. |

I agree that the team is substandard but the Skins are much improved at the 2 most important things in football, head coach and QB. These 2 pieces have made a substandard team that likely should be 2-6 into a 4-4 team that is still in the hunt. Its a week to week league and there's no telling what might happen in the next game. This team is far from dead. |
Re: Week 8: Redskins vs. Lions Gameday thread
No one's arguing that the Skins aren't better. Just that when you consider that we were really really really bad last year and now we are just really bad, the step up doesn't seem all that attractive.
|
Re: Week 8: Redskins vs. Lions Gameday thread
Well very disappointing loss to say the least. I did not expect us to play this bad nor this offense to be so inept!
But into the bye we go, couldn't come at a better time. Hope this team can get it together in the 2nd half, as we have way to many areas that need improvement at the mid point including this coaching staff. |

Really?! You'd have preferred they didnt improve at all. I would actually say they arent really bad, they are .500 team and in today's NFL that's pretty much middle of the road. |

JC's Last 2 weeks (with absolutely NO WRs...Louis Murphy was all he had and he's hurt): Week 7 - 12/20, 204 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT....WIN 59-14 Week 8 - 15/27, 310 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT...WIN 33-3 Just saying. Of course, today with McNabb/Grossman was what JC had to deal with all of last year...no QB would have won with this, except maybe Peyton Manning. I expect this benching to fire Donovan up, he'll light the Eagles up in 2 weeks. It worked that way when he was benched by Reid. |
Re: Week 8: Redskins vs. Lions Gameday thread
Also, the Lions this year aren't the Lions we've watched fail for the last few years. They're actually solid this season. Their defense is VERY good.
Their games: Lost 19-14 to Bears Lost 35-32 to Eagles Lost 24-10 to Vikings Lost 28-26 to Packers WON 44-6 over RAMS Lost 28-20 to Giants BYE Won 37-25 over Skins The only game they weren't competitive in was the Vikings game...and that wasn't even a blowout. |

They don't play the Falcons or Saints, but no one else who isn't on that list of Lions opponents has a shot at the playoffs. They will still see the Bucs this year. |
