This is a requirement of the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that states that no person shall “… be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law…”.

Obviously, the Department of Veterans Affairs can’t be bothered by such impediments as the Constitution, particularly since they are clearly pushing to fulfill one of Obama’s main goals, the disarming of the American people. Janet Napolitano has already warned law enforcement that some of the most dangerous among us are America’s heroes, our veterans, and now according to this letter from the VA they can be prohibited from buying or even possessing a firearm because of a physical or mental disability.

Think about it, the men and women who have laid their lives on the line to defend us and our Constitution are now having their own Constitutional rights denied. There are no clear criteria for the VA to declare a veteran incompetent. It can be the loss of a limb in combat, a head injury, a diagnosis of PTSD, or even a soldier just telling someone at the VA that he or she is depressed over the loss of a buddy in combat. In none of these situations has the person been found to be a danger to themselves or others. If that was the case than all of the Americans who have suffered from PTSD following the loss of a loved one or from being in a car accident would also have to be disqualified from owning firearms. It would also mean that everyone who has ever been depressed for any reason should be disarmed. In fact, many of the veterans being deprived of their rights have no idea why it is happening.[/I]

Authorites have announced an arrest in the shooting of an 8-year-old boy who was riding his bike in Chester County, and police say the suspect's interview on Action News helped them make that arrest.
The shooting happened around 5:00 p.m. Friday in the unit block of West Main Street.
Police say 55-year-old Wayne Snowden fired a random shot that struck 8-year-old A.J. Hagner.
"Drunk" and "erratic" is how North Coventry Township Police described Snowden, the man Action News interviewed a few hours after investigators say he fired the shot.
Chester County investigators say Snowden walked out onto his porch and randomly shot his gun toward West Main Street.
A.J., who was riding his bike with a friend, was hit in the thigh barely missing a major artery

I feel the same way about drunk drivers as I do about drunk people handling guns. Why do you insist on making it an issue it's clearly not?

I am really curious. I obviously don't know your background, so I just wonder where your sense of gun danger comes from.

Have you ever fired a gun, or had any safety courses regarding them?

Were you or someone close to you involved in a gun tragedy?

Or is your stance based primarily on stats and anecdotal stories?

Is there ever any moment that you could conceive the need to protect yourself with a gun?


For my part, as someone who was in the military, and grew up knowing that there were guns in the house, but also knowing that they were not toys and were dangerous tools, my sense of gun safety, and gun rights, really stems from knowing that they can be, and should be, tools used in self defense. I am not a hunter, though I understand why guns are used, in terms of hunting I tend to believe only enough for what you will eat, I don't get shooting animals for sport. Finally, although I am thankful for the country we live in, I do believe that gun rights serve as a reminder of what one of the reasons our country was forged, and shouldn't be given up to a government that increasingly moves away from protecting the rights enshrined in the 1st 10 amendments.

CRedskinsRule , doesn't matter .I read what you wrote and from what you have stated you have been "around guns" all your life ,even in the military so you, to an extent have already been pre conditioned to believe gun ownership is a necessity regardless of how safe a society or environment you live in .Believe what you want I have many friends who are hunters here is So. MD and we talk about guns a lot, many like you are former military . yet unlike you and some of the more militant "pro" gunners around here don't have the attitude that more rules or gun laws will hurt ,the more safety the better is what they say .Now the thing is most don't have hand guns or assault rifles ,different hunting rifles ,yes , shot gun .yes but they haven't run out an bought up 4000 rounds of ammo to hunt a deer with in the fall.

I am not trying to be argumentative, but just as when you read what I wrote, you understand my pre-conditioning, I was curious what formed your pre-conditioning. Clearly neither of us are going to change the other's opinions with smarmy comments and pictures, I'm really not trying to either. But I would like to understand the life path that leads one to hold your beliefs as clearly as you do. That is what those 4 questions were for, if you don't want to share, that is your option obviously, but I think it is helpful in dialogues to understand the backgrounds, and how people who hold opposing viewpoints to mine came to form their opinions.
