Oh, the dude who 'self-inflicted' stigmata?

If the church held prospective saints up to a more rigorous test there's be no saints.

Really sad exploitation of poor, stupid masses.

I sure don't think that the NRA is looking out for me. But Padre Pio was a fake. His "wounds" disappeared right after death in a way that would not have happened if he truly had been bleeding. I think he was a benign pious fake: he wasn't trying to put people on, he was just trying to imitate Jesus. Nonetheless there is no miracle with him.

I would be happy if Padre Pio were a true stigmatist. But he wasn't.

Padre Pio in fact was an example of a problem with most supposed stigmatists: they get the wounds wrong. The Romans crucified through the wrist, not the palms, since hand bones are not strong enough to hold up the body. In the Middle Ages artists began depicting the wounds in the wrong place, the palms. Thus stigmatists who have bleeding hands and palms are imitating art, not the true life Jesus.

No , not really .I made my case you not only don't like it but it is irritating to you and so the Easter bunny shot comes out .

It's only irritating because it is beyond idiotic but you continue to deny the stupidity.

Your the guy at work whose argument is "b/c that's how we always do it" - even though it is clear to everyone, but him, that he is wrong - and he is just making everyone's day a little harder b/c of his stupidity. It's that kind of irritating.

Actually alot of the crucified were also tied down at different parts (neck, shoulders, arms, waist etc.) on the cross because of tearing at the limbs. The act of striking into the wrist, base of palm, or actual palm had to do more with the message: pain to the subject and instilling fear in the community.

Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating

Correct. The act of crucifying (historically) was not death by bleeding or from the nails, but more of a suffocation and literal drowning. They were tied as you said, because joints would often come dislocated and they wanted them to remain on the cross to die slowly. Some crosses were also more of a 'Y" shape to put more pressure on the lungs and make it more difficult to breathe so they'd fill with fluid. Many hanging on the cross would have a nail below or through their ankles/feet that they'd have to use to push themselves up to take a breath of air...sounds horribly painful. When pierced (like Jesus), the water that was recorded to come out was the fluid from the lungs. He was not pierced to see if he was dead, it was to make sure he was.

Easy explanation. Jesus did not have a private jet. They weren't invented yet.

Also, camels and donkeys cannot swim.

This is one reason why Buddhism and Hinduism might fit better in the modern scientific world. Both of these religions projected long ago that there are other worlds, other solar systems, etc. On the other hand the Bible is completely Earth-centric and, as your graphic points out, especially Middle East-centric.

No, pretty delusional to think a supreme being created all that and only showed his "works" in one location.

Besides, if he's so powerful, how come it took him 6 days to create? Why not one?

'Cause it wouldn't have done us much good if, when showing his works to us, he did them on Alpha Centuari. At the same time, I would imagine he spoke to the Alpha Centaurians in a somewhat different manner than the King James Bible.
Think about this for a second.
It's not really a complicated idea to think that a god would choose one geographic area to demonstrate and teach his creation. A child may move throughout the earth as he/she grows up but a parent will do most important teachings at an early age and in the home environment. You don't just do random actions anywhere, you set out examples and use consistent settings.

Likewise as JR said, we don't know where else a god might choose to demonstrate his existence in the universe. Perhaps if science ever makes intergalactic travel a reality we will find that he has revealed himself similarly on many planets, or perhaps we don't but to say the vastness of space somehow bears witness against a creator is just blather.

Probably so. I imagine he'd drop a video game in the midst of their mobile home park to test their skills in religious faith.
