Braves also beat the Brewers, Dodgers, and Astros to win - coincidentally the Nats also beat all 3 teams (and the Cards in the NLCS) to win the WS 2 years ago too.
Good for the Braves, no dog in the fight but super glad the cheating Astros got beat.
My thoughts Exactly!

Although I personally did follow the Atlanta Braves in the 90's. So I do have something of a soft-spot for the Braves.

Marte is a stud. The trade deadline worked out perfectly for the Braves, but he was a guy I was hoping we could get. He is one my favorite non-Braves players in the league.

I couldn't disagree more. I think it's a shame and an embarrassment that those guys aren't in the HOF.

Re: MLB thread

With regard to Bonds and Clemens, I'm kind of on the fence. On one hand baseball has a pretty storied history tied to cheating and guys doing whatever they can to get an advantage, and on the other I understand those that have no tolerance for what went on during the steroid era. Bonds and Clemens both would have had Hall worthy careers, roids or not.

I don't know how you can tell the story of baseball in the 80s and 90s without talking about those guys, so I guess I'd lean towards putting them in at the end of the day.

Early on in their retirement I was definitely an F them guy. I think mostly do to their defensive posturing. I have grown soft over time, but still have some conflicting emotions. If they get in should we revisit Pete Rose? imo he should be in as a player but MLB has always been strict with gambling.

I really hope baseball gets a deal done today. Very sad if they can't put their egos aside for the good of the game.

It's probably going to be a long year for the Nats but I don't care. I'm ready for some baseball. Seeing Max in a Mets uniform is going to hurt really bad. :-(

That parade and incredible 2019 run seems like it was 10 years ago.

Agreed. The start of baseball season is one of my favorite weeks of the year.

Re: MLB thread

According to Evan Drellich, Ken Rosenthal, and Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, MLB told the players on Monday that they have indicated a willingness to miss a month of games from the 2022 season.

The full extent of the conversation isn't yet known, but Drellich adds that MLB "took a more threatening tone" than they did during CBA negotiations on Sunday. Not exactly what you want to hear with MLB's self-imposed Monday deadline before regular season games will be canceled. It's easy to see this as a threat from the players' perspective, trying to test their will with the "deadline" rapidly approaching. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred recently said that missing games would be a "disastrous outcome for this industry," but apparently he's prepared to let that happen.

Manfred is a terrible commissioner

Since we lost the first week of the season here is a fun list a number to retire for every team:

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2953886-1-legend-from-every-mlb-team-who-deserves-to-have-their-number-retired

Lot's of good names that deserve it but plenty in there just to fill the void.

Baltimore Orioles: Mike Mussina-This to me is a no brainer. Man deserves to be recognized at Camden Yards with the other Oriole HOF players. Yes I know he didn't go in as an Oriole but his career here was something special he wasn't a rental or stop gap.

You guys approve of your teams nod? If not who would you go with?

Keith Hernandez will be the first player from the 86 Mets to have his # retired this year and it's definitely well deserved. Can't argue against David Wright, dude was on a hall of fame pace until the injuries piled up.

Now let's get Free Agency started again. Interested to see where some of the remaining players land. Pretty impressive they are still going to play 162 games with the delay.

It will suck, but Atlanta will move quick hopefully to get another hometown guy, Matt Olsen at 1st. I think he wants to come home if Freeman goes.

Side note, just got my Atlanta World Champs shirt in the mail!

Just got one too. Waited a few months and it dropped from 40 bucks to 20 bucks. They really try to fuck you after you win.

40 for a t shirt? Pfft.

Boom:

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Braves are acquiring first baseman Matt Olson from the Athletics.

Wow. Just an absolute stunner, which seemingly signals the end of the Freddie Freeman era in Atlanta. Passan adds that the Athletics will receive outfielder Cristian Pache, catcher Shea Langeliers and right-handers Ryan Cusick and Joey Estes. It's a massive prospect haul for Oakland as they transition into a full-scale teardown. Olson is poised to take over as the reigning World Series champions everyday first baseman after posted a robust .271/.371/.540 triple-slash line with a career-high 39 homers and four stolen bases in 673 plate appearances last year.
