Why is this news? |
I guess, but who would have been RR's guy (that was available and willing to come here)?
Matt Ryan Marcus Mariota Jimmy G At this point Jimmy G was probably the best to get out of that QB class of trades and FA's but no one wanted to take a chance on his shoulder The problems of this team run much deeper then the QB spot and Wentz. At this point i say ride out Wentz and WHEN its clear as day we are out the playoff picture, ( some could argue its pretty much now) then I run Sam a few games to see what we really have in him so we make a sound QB decision for 23/24 season.
I'm not arguing that Wentz was the wrong decision (I liked it). Who would have been Ron's guy, who knows? But again the owner is meddling and screwing up the team. That's probably why Wash gave up draft picks to get Wentz, it wasn't Ron's idea to do that it was Dan's. I agree, ride Wentz and see what happens. |

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
I would like to point out that Riverboat Ron was force fed Haskins on day one and Wentz in Season 3.
No way he took the job expecting full control, dude is here cashing check. |

No way he took the job expecting full control, dude is here cashing check.
I disagree. I think he thought he was getting full control but quickly realized he had been lied to. Now he's cashing his check like every other coach Snyder lied to knowing he will be out of here soon. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
I don't think he was force fed Haskins. He made the best choice in his first year to see what first round pick Haskins had to offer in his system. I think it was the best choice, even though it didn't work out. Then he not only replaced him, but eventually released him. We all know Haskins was DS's pick, and by how he handled the Haskins situation, RR showed that he had full control in year 1.
I don't know if I'm buying the idea that Wentz was forced onto RR either. Maybe it is true that DS wanted Wentz, but it's probably more likely that the decision to bring him in was ultimately Ron's. I still don't think it was a bad move. It hasn't worked out well so far, but in my opinion that has more to do with the poor decisions with regard to the O-line, and the numbnut calling the plays. Honestly, not addressing the center position with Chase coming off a broken leg, and of course bringing in these two terrible guards to replace Flowers and Scherff were just dumb decisions, and the biggest reason this team has only (barely) won one game. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
What Rivera has done to the OL is way worse than what we did at QB. If we had last year's line, Wentz would look better than he has. Our line is an abomination. And its 100% on Ron for fucking that up as bad as humanly possible.

Even with a good offensive line I'm not sure it would help Wentz not lock in to one receiver.

Saw a lot of 1 read throws by him. That’s what happens when you are shell shocked from a garbage Oline that can’t protect him. I would like to see them move him more in and out the pocket, just like a good fingerblast |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
That was driving me nuts last night. He would lock in only see first or second read and for the most part he wouldn't even see one half of the field.

Wentz .. is not good at processing things fast enough. Hes just not. Hes a low IQ qb imo. Plays like the one above happen way too much. He doesnt see the field, I dont think hes good at reading Ds pre snap, def not good at reading the field post snap. For a pass play to work, his first read needs to be open open. Hes just mentally slow. Turner must be frustrated. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
i will say I enjoyed this effort by Wentz he flat out leveled Roquan Smith. IMO this shows me he still cares about winning and his role, just doesn't have the skillset unfortunately. How many QBs would put their shoulder into a LB? Most just stand there and dance in front of them before getting trucked.

Terrible. Terry would have got like 15 or 20 yards on that. |

I have admittedly been a defender of Wentz, but that was awful, not just an open receiver but the one guy he should always have eyes on. No wonder Terry is not getting many targets if Wentz is doing that. I am over Wentz as the solution now, but I don't think drafting a QB high in '23 will help if the rest of the team, particularly the OL doesn't drastically improve. If we have a top 5 pick they should be looking to trade down including an extra r1 the following year and other change. Get a good young CB and a couple of guards, roll with Wentz or Howell for '23. |

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
A while back I said that Wentz is basically Jay Schroeder minus the poor attitude. He is a good deep ball thrower when given time but really not much else. Isn't accurate enough on the mid and short range stuff to consistently move the chains, has no touch and once you knock him around he checks out. But at least Jay could move around, Wentz can't even do that anymore. Looks like that knee injury took away some of his mobility.
If Wentz was a baseball player he'd hit 30 homeruns, bat 190 and lead the league in being struck out. Maybe it works on a team full of stars to pick him up but not here. Not in Indy. He is not that same guy we saw in 2017 that looked like a future MVP. That guy is long gone and ain't coming back. |

What made him so special in 2017 was his mobility and after the knee he is scared to run now which limits his game. O well he wasn't the longterm answer anyway |

True. I see both sides...I wanna see what the kids got, but also don't want him to get ruined by statting too early..esp with our absolutrly abysmal offensive line. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
And if I'm being honest....I don't trust this coaching staff, from top to bottom, to put this kid in a position to succeed

He’ll be out up to 6 weeks, probably the best thing to have happened. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/commanders-carson-wentz-fractures-finger-in-throwing-hand-could-be-out-as-long-as-six-weeks-per-report/

It’s a shit sandwich situation. I don’t trust them to design game plan to protect him and I don’t trust them to recognize when he is ready to play either. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Well he wont hit 70% now, Colts only get a 3rd, not a second, poor old Colts...

Maybe this year he won’t dive at the one yard line against Green Bay? In all honesty TH seems to be aware of his flaws and tries to work on them. I hope to see some improvements from last year but am pragmatic enough to know he is 29 and it is highly unlikely. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
"Andrew Siciliano on Twitter
Matt Ryan is the first @NFL QB since at least 1970 with 5+ interceptions, 20+ sacks, and 10+ fumbles through the first 5 games of a season." Do you think they would want Wentz back? |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Wentz out 4-6 weeks
Come on down Sam Howell |

Well with this Oline, probably a good chance TH could get injured as well. Pretty good chance we'll see Howell at some point this season now. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Heinicke's game is probably better-suited for this current offensive line. No lingering in the pocket waiting for things down the field to develop. Move the pocket, get the ball to the playmakers, and let them do their thing.
