I didn't say it made sense for them. I just said that is what I would trade for the guy.

No to Justin Smiley. He remind me of Randy Thomas too much as far as injured too much. Decent talent. But you gonna trade for him to compete with Dockery, arguably are best lineman last year? no thanks, keep the players/ picks you would use to get him and draft young talent.

Question: What do you guys think of a Carter and 2nd round pick for the the Saints 31st pick if we wanted to move up, would you do it?

If we could pick up some top-level interior players, I'd be all for it. But we are a lot closer to acceptable on the interior than we are at the tackles, so at this point, even the flyer type of OT that the 5th round pick would bring is more valuable than a veteran established RG.

So according to Adam schefter the redskins will not receive any compensatory picks. Bummer...

According to the always-reliable PFT, Sims has decided against signing with the Skins

I would post a more reliable link if I had one.

49ers re-signed OT Barry Sims to a one-year contract.

Sims, 35, can make up to $2.1M, likely through start-based incentives. The 49ers, of course, would prefer he not see first-team action in 2010 despite a solid showing in seven starts last season. San Francisco will likely draft a right tackle of the future this April and keep Sims on as a "swing" reserve.

I'm glad he isn't a skin, he's old and holds.

PFT is plenty reliable for signings and stuff

I think this basically tells me we will be going after an OT with our 1st round pick, the Clausen talk is a smoke screen.

From Jason Reid:

Redskins miss out on offensive lineman Sims

The Redskins lost another free-agent battle Monday when offensive tackle Barry Sims decided to remain with the San Francisco 49ers.

Sims agreed to a one-year contract that could be worth as much as approximately $2.1 million to return to the 49ers for this season, his agent Kenneth Vierra informed Rick Maese in a text message. Sims's visit with the team apparently went well last week, and it was believed the 11-year veteran was choosing between joining the Redskins and returning to the 49ers -- for whom he played 16 games, and started seven, last season. He played the past two seasons under Chris Foerster, the Redskins' new line coach who came to Washington from San Francisco.

If you're scoring at home, the Redskins have failed to sign several second-tier free agents whom they've pursued, including at least three offensive linemen. The Redskins are in need of major help at tackle with the retirement of Pro Bowl left tackle Chris Samuels and the lack of effectiveness Stephon Heyer often exhibited after beginning the 2009 season as the team's top right tackle.

You're conclusion seems pretty logical. Any smart coach/FO would be insane to enter a season w/ our current crop of OTs, especially our lack of a legit LT. Meanwhile we can make due w/ the group of QBs on the roster for at least a year. I'll be shocked w/ Shanny and Co take a QB w/ our first pick at this point.

Yeah, I can't think of a site where you can find more "stuff" then PFT.

Following Adam Schefter on Twitter is better.

Is it conceivable to think the Redskins could start two rookies on the offensive line this year?

I could see that. I could see us probably plugging someone that's kind of been around in at RT or LT though and filling the other with a rookie. Who knows if someone like Heyer could do better with what they'll be doing.
