Teo would be an excellent replacement for London Fletcher. But what about Keenan Robinson? Isn't he being groomed to eventually replace Fletcher? I think he is.
A) You probably haven't looked into the draft rankings or watch much college football, because Te'o isn't just the best MLB in the country, nor is he the one of the best defensive players in the country, he's in the Heismann race because he's just that good all around. He isn't dropping into the 2nd round. Not. A. Chance.

B) Keenan Robinson is being groomed to be one of our MLBs, whether its to replace Fletcher or go to Riley's spot when Riley goes to Fletchers spot (more likely to happen). But I'll say this. Keenan hasn't been on defense much this year, so thats questionable. Fletcher has been bad this year. If Robinson is going to be a future starter on this team, he needs to be starting now. Also coming out of college the knock on Keenan was that he gets engulfed and run over in the run game (but he excels very well on pass defense) maybe he'll bulk up and improve, but I honestly don't see Keenan as a future year in and year out starter. I see him more in that Mark Herzlich role that he plays for the Giants; let the 3 LB's start and fill in on different downs and be a special teams stud.

I'd look to a program where a 3-4 defense is run for sure for LB talent. Notre Dame, Maryland, or Alabama comes to mind. The Redskins need to get out of the habit of converting 4-3 linebackers into 3-4 personnel and look for that fit from true sources.

Converting players isn't an uncommon thing, or a Redskins thing. There just aren't enough schools that run a 3-4.

Kerrigan was a "tweener" too. So they are targeting 3-4 guys.

Alabama would without a doubt have the best 3-4 prospects along the defensive line and LB corps in the country. At least 5 out of their seven man front is headed to the NFL.

Most teams have to convert linebackers from 3-4 to 4-3, Cushing, Patrick Willis, Bowman, Sean Lee, are a couple that I remember playing 4-3 and playing very well in a 3-4. Just about scouting and making sure you draft the players with the right skills to fit your system.

The thing is, you don't want to have another Rocky McIntosh or Andre Carter. Players who best suit the 43 and then have them play in a 3-4 scheme that's not suited for them.

Definitely. Thats why they are both gone. They were bought in / drafted for the 4-3. Fell victim to the 3-4. Donofriose nailed it though. The scouts have to really step it up when your drafting for a 3-4. Unless of course you are targeting a guy from Bama or one of those schools you referred to. Just that the talent pool shrinks from 300 schools to about 15 unless you are a good judge of a players raw ability to make the jump.

That was a nice comment. I like it.

There are certain players who played in the 4-3 in college that you could draft to play in the 3-4 in the pros and it works out. Rocky McIntosh should have succeeded because he played middle LB in college and OLB in the pros so he should have made the transition smoothly. But the idea of making a player like Andre Carter who was/is a pass rushing specialist as a DE in the 4-3 and trying to get him to be a 3-4 OLB and ask him to not only rush the passer from a 2 point stance but cover TEs, FBs, and half backs coming out of the backfield is not what he's good at.

Firing Haslett would fix the problem the actual problem that at LB Coach, DL Coach and DB Coach. These units underachievement imo has lead to the collective failure of the defense.

And GM/player personnel situation also plays a factor in the lack of talent.
We gotta hire a real GM.

We have a real GM. Bruce Allen is one of the best in the business. Problem is Mike Shanahan has been permitted to choose the players that he wants for his team. Bruce Allen should be the one selecting the players, not Shanahan.

As far as Jim Haslett is concerned, I'm not really sure if he's to blame. His scheme while not top 5 or top 10 last year was much improved. If anything the big plays given up in the secondary this season is the defensive backs coach's fault, not Haslett.

Mike should be be permitted to choose the offensive players that he wants for this team.

Mike should not be permitted to choose the defensive players that he wants for this team.

Offensively, Mike is damn near genius when it comes to selecting players, it's just the defensive side of the ball he struggles mightily when it comes to drafting.

It falls more on Mike

1) For selecting Haslett and Slowik

2) For selecting the players

The D is garbage, its still a 3-4 D with 4-3 personel. Corners and safeties are the worst in the league. And to top it off, the play calling from Haslett is horrendous. The all-out blitz doesn't work against a 10 year old in Madden 13... why would it work against an NFL team?!? GOTTA GO

Ok, I was clearly wrong. Great job to Haz for the 2nd half of this season and especially tonight.

Bring this man back!
