Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
Don't you find it a bit curious that whoever the democratic nominee turns out to be, that he or she is always "the most liberal" candidate as rated by some institute or think tank? How is it that this particular label always coincides with the presidential election and conveniently changes no matter who it is? If Hillary had won, don't you think everyone on the Republican side would say the very same about her?
Well when they were fighting for the Dem. nomination they said Obama had a more liberal voting recored then Hillary. So I guess if hillary won then I guess they would have had to say one of the most liberal voters in congress. Its a no different then the left trying to make McCain look like a conservative. |
Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
I have a question about Obama that maybe some Obama fan could answer. It seemed back around a month ago Obama said he would not raise taxes on anyone making under $125,000 but how is saying that he will not raise taxes for anyone making under $250,000. Did something change or did he never claim that he would not raise taxes on people making under $125,000?

Obama has always said the cut off line is 250K. He has never said he would raise taxes on people making 125K and above. |

Ok, I just don't know where that $125,000 number in my head came from and I thought I heard Obama sometime back using that figure. |
Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
I understand the distinction you're trying to make, but couldn't it be said that the Bush family ranks right up there with the very group you have such a problem with? How about McCain? His father and grandfather were both Navy Admirals. He married into wealth, and has spent nearly 30 years in Washington. You don't think he perceives himself of a higher social status than the rest of us peons?
I'm not a fan of Obama, but doesn't he strike you as just the opposite of the "elitists" -- coming from relative obscurity in a middle class family, and only recently achieving any sort of status by being elected to the Senate? What about Bill Clinton? Come on -- he came from the lower class backwoods in Arkansas for crying out loud. Would you classify either of these people as "elitists" ?? The last republicans who came from similar roots would be Reagan and Nixon. But since then, they've been charter members of the "country club elite".
They're all elitists, Obama included. They all have an air of entitlement. The difference is in the way each group markets its policies; the Dems generally favor government solutions and programs to solve problems (Govt should take more of our money and knows how to handle fix things). Republicans say they favor smaller government with people responsible and in control of their lives. The Republican message fits hand-in-hand with labeling the Dems elitist. Have the Republicans shrunk government in the last 8 years.....we all know the answer is no. I would like to see Term Limits in place for the Senate and Congress, maybe a regular turn-over would force some positive changes (yes, I'm know, I'm a cautous optimist). |

The problem as I see it is its become a career for too many and they have way to many perks. Maybe term limits of maybe two terms max and a set benefits package which increases if they serve two terms. |

While I am still undecided, I lean towards McCain. That said, I have to agree with you here. I can't justify voting for this ticket unless she raises her awareness on just about everything (aside from morality issues, where she seems to have all of her knowledge invested). 8 yrs has been enough of a president who looks unsure every time he opens his mouth. This election is really disappointing me. I disagree with Obama on most issues, but McCain is nowhere near the force he was 10 yrs ago. |
Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
John McCain is putting Country First! Obama and the Dems only care about power! J/K.
Seriously though, McCain knows this economic crisis is killing him. Smart move by him IMO, he's put himself in a position that if the bailout is passed it will appear he had something to do with it and he'll take credit, hopefully reversing the poor poll numbers. If the bill doesn't pass, he can be in Washington stumping about the Democratic controlled Congress killing the U.S. economy with partisan bickering. |

Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate
It's a gimmick one intended to change the media narrative and possibly give Palin more time to prepare or to skip the VP debate all together. We'll just have to see if it works in his favor.

The idea of Palin as VP should scare the crap out of any rational human being. Horrible VP choice and I think it will be one of the main factors that costs McCain the election. |

The only thing that poll was ment to do was to mislead the American people into thinking that Obama is helped by the economic issues right now. If you look at the people polled its like 54% dems to like 30% rep. The Washington Post is the most bias news around and is not a very good source. |

While I agree polls have to be taken with a grain of salt, every news outlet that isn't favorable towards McCain isn't necessarily unreliable or in the tank for Obama. Also, whether or not the Post is biased and a credible source or not is highly debatable. |
Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate

Polling is a science with strict procedures in place for collecting random data. It is not biased. How can you not know this? |

A bit naive to think the Washington Post is completing an unbiased poll. The bottom line in looking at polls is who is doing them & why. Is the source of the poll a service that gets paid for accuracy or a news outlet who gets paid on subscriptions and ad revenue? I would argue a source such as Zogby who is independent and is a "third-party" that is only interested in the accuracy of their numbers is the best way to go. How reliable their numbers are is how they get paid. A polling service like this is much better than the Washington Post, NY Times, Fox News or WSJ. What on earth was Palin talking about in that interview? She was shockingly unprepared to answer those questions. What a terrible terrible choice she is turning out to be.
