Hope Nancy doesn't fold and makes the final bill more like the house bill.

State Attorney Generals in many states, including Florida and South Carolina already have lawsuits prepared as soon as it passes to challenge it since it is unconstitutional. The Government CAN NOT force people to buy a product they do not want, also there are so many special interest and pet projects for individual states in the bill that were thrown in to benefit certain states and buy their Yes votes. In addition, there are many organizations ready to join in the legal actions to overturn it. Republicans are also preparing an almost immediate bill to repeal it which may actually get the votes to pass, because some of the Yes votes are hesitant support from Congressman who are going to get barraged from their constituents for their support and will easily change their minds and support the repeal in a last-ditch effort to save their political careers.

Even if it DOES pass, there is a good chance it will be repealed either legally by the court system or a Congressional vote to reverse it. Chris Dodd and a few other Democrats who supported it and had a hand in the creation of it have announced this week they're not going to run again. The 2010 election will not go well for Democrats (GOP polling shows a tie in MA for Ted Kennedy's seat!) who supported the Healthcare bill, so even if the GOP doesn't have the votes immediately to repeal it, they definitely will after the November elections. The American people will not stand for this forcing of a bad law down our throats. Once they're being forced into something they do not want by the Government and when they realize the impact of it on their wallets, that's when they'll stand up. The wallets of the people are the one thing that pushes them into political action faster than anything else.

President Obama and the crafters of the bill did something smart politically by collecting money for 3 years and not letting the impact of the Healthcare bill start taking effect until 2013, after the next General Election, but that will also provide more than sufficient time to get the unconstitutional bill repealed as it should be.

Even if it passes, it won't survive.

Everything he said he stood for he has now back away from but his sheep won't even admitt he is a lier even when you can show a clip of him doing so. Personaly I knew he was full of BS and was hiding his liberal agenda behine his lies of change. His voting record said he was a far left liberal and that what we got. Thats also whay so many Dems. are packing it in and not running for re-election in the next election because they no whats coming.

Then you can't legally register the car. Most state governments mandates that if you want to register a car then you have to have insurance. You can choose not to own a car, or to not register it, in which case you do not have to buy insurance. It is a subtle distinction, but valid none the less.

Most states force you to buy liability insurance if you own a car. Some states like VA allow you to not have liability insurance but they indirectly force you to have it by instituting an annual Uninsured Motor Vehicle fee of $500. Now when presented with this option any sane person would say to themselves why pay $500 and take on liability of damages done to another car when you can take that $500, add a few more bucks and get insurance for your car? UMV fee is a gimmick and a barrier for people who want to not insure their car...it's a soft individual mandate if you will.

Anywho, these lawsuits are a wast of tax payer money and merely serve as political grandstanding. No court will reject the individual mandate as that will open the floodgates for other lawsuits into Social Security and Medicare program. Precedent means something in court folks.

Same concept, and it is familliar to the American public. If you don't want to buy health insurance you must pay a fine. That's what Glenn Beck means by forcing you to buy health insurance. you don't have to, but you must pay a fine. Hospitals can't turn you away, costs are so high because the paying folks have to make up for the folks who dont' pay. If they pay something it will help tremendously.

Cutting taxes has been proven OVER AND OVER that they help the economy. The economy was booming just a couple of years after 09/11, thanks to tax cuts. They help people not only have more money in their pockets, but also allow employers to hire more people.

This is why we had 4%, almost non-existent unemployment then, and now when you factor in people who have given up looking for jobs, we have 18%.

You can't compare health insurance to car insurance. Medical insurance is to protect yourself. It's a personal choice. Auto insurance is to protect the person you hit, not yourself unless you choose to pay more to cover yourself. Car insurance as a mandate makes sense to protect EVERYONE, but if you want to pay for your medical expenses out of your own pocket, that's your prerogative.

Re: Obama Care

The problem is if they force the ins. co. to take evrybody regardless of their health condition they also have to either force people to buy ins or force them to pay any and all of the health bills. If they did not force people to buy ins. but force th ins. co to take everyone people that don't give a dam would just wait until they get sick then buy ins. Now they only drain the system and do not really ever pay into the system. You could tell them fine you don't have to buy ins. but if anything happens then you must pay all bills and even if you file bank ruptcy you still have to pay your medical bills. I'm actually torn on this issue because I don't like the goverment forcing people to buy ins. but I also know the uninsured put a drain on the system.

As much as I hate to say this I think the only choice is to force people to buy coverage unless they can show that they are able to pay any health cost they may incure. The problems we are going to see is that these new mandates on the ins. co. will drive up cost and there is no way around that. Maybe after everyone is in the system the newer healthy customer might off set the new customers with health issues. Another issue I have is we will see people who can aford those new cars but some how get the goverment to pay a portion of their ins which will happen. Its the same thing with just about all social programs is that you will have people milking the system for everything they can and thats what ticks me off. You also have dumb a$$ goverment workers who don't care and allow this to happen.

By using this reasoning, it makes more sense to mandate health insurance than car insurance. Have a wreck, no insurance, lose your car, and maybe injure your passenger or other drivers: worse case - no one can pay their doctor bills. Catch Ebola and can't pay your doctor bills worse case - you kill the whole country. More likely, the hospital cures you for free, but because you can't pay everyone else's doctor bills go sky high.

This is where emotions override fact. DC not being a state is unfair, silly, and undemocratic. It is not "unconstitutional"
Article 1 Section 8 of the constitution -
Section 8

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
...
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States,
This was instituted for a specific reason, so that no state or states could hold the government of the US hostage by their own militia. At this point in history maybe it makes sense to change that, but DC Statehood was specifically prohibited for several politically correct reasons back then.

besides where would a 51st star go ... geez

The numbers spiked when the Democrats overwhelmingly took over Congress. In fact, the economy's first signs of weakness came when the balance of power shifted into the Democrat's favor. (a similar coincidence happened in the 1930s)

Tax cuts had nothing to do with the downturn, it had more to do with the housing scandals with Freddie/Fannie, also known as Barney Frank (D) /Chris Dodd (D).

It's interesting that when Obama goes into talk to the Dems it's a closed door session, but when he came to Baltimore and spoke to the Republicans he was carried on all the national media. This is more a perception, it may be two entirely different types of meetings, but it strikes me as very "chicago-esque" style of politics.

as to the actual article, I imagine our own Saden feels the same way, that Obama has not been clear enough, or provided the appropriate leadership to push this bill through.

We will see how the far left deals with having to soften it's agenda, or if they now go after it full tilt. My guess is the liberal Dems will get pretty nasty toward anyone not going with what they want to do, regardless of party affiliation.

Last year the average health Ins. co. had a 3.3 profit and some of the highest profits where 4.5 %. Its not like they are making money hand over fist and see where they rank among other businesses.

Their profit is not my concern. They can make as much money as they like. Their influence is what troubles me.

Re: Obama Care

my girl is one of the 32 million without health insurance.

shes 30, works 2 jobs, has high blood pressure and is anemic.

last year she fell and busted her eye/head open. with no insurance, we couldnt take her to the hospital. i watched her carefully for a few days. 3 days after the fall, she fainted, fell, was psitting up blood. i rushed her to the hospital. the doctors wanted to do all types of tests since there was a traumatic head injury. (that actor's wife just died from a minor head injury skiing). we told them our situation and had to decline anything but the most necessary treatments. she gets released from the hospital in a few hours. we get a 10k bill.

the past year she has been having sudden episodes where her heartbeat increases to a fevered pitch, you can feel her heart pounding against her chest cavity. she gets very weak, has trouble breathing, fights to stay conscious. since she doesnt have health insurance, all i can do is hold her while she is lumped on the ground for the half hour or so the attacks take. it is frightening as hell to have your loved one potentially dying in your arms and you cant do anything aobut it b/c we cant afford $200 + a month for health insurance for her.

she eventually did get health insurance a few months ago but all she could afford is a health plan that doesnt pay a cent until she has paid over $10,000 for medical services per year. which, of course doesnt help.

to you all with health insurance, living a nice life, think aobut some of us who work hard, pay our own way thru life but still cant afford the out of control costs of health care.

reading that blue cross has increased their charges without explanation pisses me off. this is a game they are playing, trying to maintain their stanglehold on the price of health.

this bill isnt about you guys and girls who have health insurance. its about the 30 year old girl working 2 jobs, getting no govt assistance, who cant afford health care b/c health insurance companies got it nice and cozy right now and they dont want that to change.
