Lerner isn't like that. He lets his football people do all of the work, he doesnt meddle. Plus if they make the trade up with the Rams, how would they still have a first to draft a RB? All of the reports have been saying that the price starts with two firsts and from Cleveland both picks from this year.
Well I suppose, technically, Cleveland could keep that pick and offer a couple of extra future picks in place of that one, but all in all, I'm really doubting the Browns do make that trade up. My only thing with all this is, if the Redskins don't get Manning (which is probably the likely scenario at this point) and get beat out by the Browns in moving up to #2, then drafting Ryan Tannehill looks more like a consolation prize. I feel OK drafting RT if the 'skins were landing Manning, just because I believe Tannehill is gonna need a year or two before he's truly ready. I'm not sure if I could stomach Orton or another Grossman year. |

Hopefully the Browns will value Richardson a bit more than they value RG3 (I know that sounds a bit crazy). |

I have felt all along that it's entirely likely that REX is the starting QB week 1, with a drafted QB(not RGIII) sitting behind him for half the season. The percentage is as strong for that to occur as getting Peyton or RGIII and having them start. |

You know, I just dont see how Mike Shanahan could do this and be looked at as performing his duties as HC. You know that your QB situation is TERRIBLE, you MUST address it this year. There is no excuse for him if Rex is the QB day one, and I think he is way too smart to play russian roulette like that. We will have a new QB come April. |

I think they would consider that addressing the situation. I dont like it, but i've been disappointed by these guys fairly consistently with their QB decisions. |

Not totally crazy. Richardson is a very safe pick (what you want high in the draft), the best player at his position (what you want high in the draft), and fills a need. In terms of BPA, I could see them valuing Richardson more than Griffin. |

From an outsiders stand point yes he does have a ton of upside. I will say he was not my choice last year when us fans were talking QB talk. Mine was Dalton. Perhaps the Browns have realized something we don't see, or it's going to take longer for him to develope then they thought? IDK. I get the feeling Holmgren is still in the mind set of win now and McCoy didn't give him that. I feel the same way with the Vikes. Although I think the Vikes are a little more happy with Ponder then the browns are with McCoy. But I could see both teams taking RGIII for their future. RGIII is definitely better then either teams current QB's. ... and for giggles I'd say the same for the Bucks. When some of us talk of other QB's in this yrs draft the RGIII fans ask "how can you pass up on such a talent, a future franchise QB?" but when other teams are mentioned they come up with every excuse as to why those other teams won't want him. If he is such a catch, such a great player, could solidify a teams QB position for years then why wouldn't the Browns, Vikes and even the Bucks want him? Their QB's have not stepped up to be exceptional yet and who knows if they ever will. |

Truthfully, I don't want either Grossman or Beck quarterbacking the Redskins. I'm hoping that the Redskins lean against re-signing Grossman and I'm also hoping that Jonathan Crompton outshines Beck in training camp/preseason. They both showed their worthlessness last season. It is time to move on from both of them. |

This. Well, semi-this. I'm not a big fan of Orton/Tannehill, but if that was option A and my other option was Rex/Cousins or whomever, I'd take option A. |

OK, if I'm not mistaken we don't have 2 first round picks. The Skins offered (I thought): 2012- 1st, 3rd 2013- 1st, 4th The Rams want our 2nd round pick to go with the other 2012 picks. The Skins said no thank you because they want to keep the 2nd round pick. I'm not sure what was asked of the Browns but they balked also. I presumed they made a similar offer and possibly the Rams wanted their 2nd rounder also or their second 1st rounder added to the offer and the Browns said no. All I'm saying is the Browns could beat our offer by simply offering their first of two first round picks, offer their 2nd round pick, and their 3rd round pick, along with next yrs 1st and 4th. They get RGIII and still have their second first round pick to get a RB which they desperatly need. Unless I'm mistaken (yet again) and the Browns don't have 2 first round picks? |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Its very unfortunate that the Colts released Manning. But everything happens for a reason and I believe he should go to a team that would appreciate him, and not release him. There's speculation of him going to the Miami Dolphins. If he does, I think it would be a great idea for him to do that. It would be a change of environment!

I personally have no problem with Rex starting the 1st couple games if say RG3 is not ready. However, I think Rex starting the home opener will create a bad vibe in the stadium that we don't really need as we start a new season. The boo birds and chants of RG3 are going to start at the 1st incompletion let alone interception. For that reason it's safer to just start fresh with all new QB's... |

Boooooo. oh yea no your right. On top of that I don't think you can start Rex, change him out for RGIII and if he struggles think of even changing back. They are better off letting Rex go, (hate to say it) keep Beck for camp, keep Crompton for camp, pick up another Vet (Flynn, Orton), and draft some one like Tannehill, Cousins, Weeden. Then let the QB position play out in preseason. Then I'd cut Beck if we didn't prior and Crompton. Keep the new Vet and Rookie. If it's Orton/Rookie I'd hope Rookie starts and Orton is back up, If it's Flynn/Rookie then Rookie can be back up and develope cause as someone else said your not going to pay Flynn starting money which he will want and make him backup. I still think RGIII is too expensive with all our needs. I'll take Flynn/Rookie and give MS the last 3 yrs to make the young QB's work out. Only other option I like would be trading back for more picks taking Rookie QB in the 1st, WR in 2nd, and picking up another Rookie QB somewhere and let them battle in preseason. Then play the best of the two. With this option we'd have two young QB's to develope over 3 yrs. If after 3 yrs we still suck MS will be gone anyway. |

I see your point, but look at it another way - Rex is the perfect expectation (not game) manager; he will be ready when the season starts whereas a rook will likely not be up to speed mentally, he can pull out a couple of wins if the rest of the team does well, and then he can be the fall guy cause, well, he already is! |

The way he plays costs us wins. And what if the coaching staff thinks RG3 needs 6 or 8 games on the bench? Rex will end up washing another season down the drain. i just think they should aim a little higher then Rex as the stopgap and have him as the fallback plan. But at the end of the day if they have RG3 then i don't care who the heck the backup is... |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Honestly, if we were going to go the Orton/Tannehill route, I'd just assume not even bother with Orton and just keep Rex. You know it would probably cost the 'skins less, and personal opinion, I just don't see Orton as THAT much of an upgrade over Grossman.
Best case scenario, I'd rather the 'skins draft RGIII, keep Rex and let them battle for the starting job (in which we all know RGIII would eventually get) and replace Beck with Clausen. |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
You don't give up a bunch of picks to move up to take a guy, and then proceed to sit him to start the season. If you believe in RGIII that much to give up all those picks, he's got to be your guy day 1 he enters the building.
Unless he's hurt, there's no reason he shouldn't be ready to play right away. |

We've seen that Shanny won't play guys if they can't pass the playbook test. I'm certainly not saying that RGIII will not be a good student, I just think you have to acknowledge that a rookie QB faces a pretty steep learning curve. Sure, we can all look at Cam & big Ben as examples of great rookie years, but those are still the exception. I'm willing to see Rex as starting qb until the rook is really ready. I would hope that would happen by mid season. |

I would hope that Shanny would have in mind how quickly he envisions RG3 starting and tailoring the backup QB to that plan. At the end of the day I just want RG3 and I would still be happy if someone from this board was the backup. |

That waiter deserved to be fired. Peyton is a private citizen like the rest of us, no matter how much he makes. No one needs to know how much he spends, tips or see the receipts from his purchases. That waiter could be probably prosecuted on top of the firing if Peyton really wanted to, he's opening Manning up to identity theft if anyone would be stupid enough to try it with someone so-well known.
If the customer was an elected official and taxpayers were paying for the deal, we may have different story, but Peyton makes his own money. |
