As I was on a flight during the game, I missed it. But if you told me that Clowney would go out injured, that we would average more than 6 yards per carry, that RGIII would throw for nearly 275 and no picks, I would have guessed a victory. Damn this team is maddening. 6 points? That's pathetic.
We basically got Stanford'd Stanford'd - To have be have a strong statistical game on offense while scoring no more than 10 points. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
If (when) we have a top 5 pick next year, what position we drafting? When a Redskins fan it's never too early to look towards next year.
If Polumbus is our starting right tackle NEXT season I literally won't watch their games. Bring on the Jags, they looked good, then the 2nd half started. I like our chances to get to 1-1. |

LOL, we have many more losses to get through first before we get to there. I like your thinking though. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
RG -3 misses too many wide open wr's for me to blame it all on our right side.
|
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
A lot of the same maddening mistakes that cost us last season happened again in this game. I'd like to say we should have won this game, but it would be intellectually dishonest of me to ignore the fact that we lost this one in much the same way that we lost so many games last season. It was very disappointing to see that.
RG -3 misses too many wide open wr's for me to blame it all on our right side.
Griffin was actually pretty accurate today. I'd like to see them challenge the middle of the field more, but Griffin's passing wasn't the reason for this loss. It was red zone turnovers and still terrible special teams that lost this game. A blocked XP and a blocked punt in the same game - simply pathetic.

This literally looked like what game 17 would have looked like if we had to play 1 more last year. No difference. Just amateur mistakes that almost make you laugh if it wasn't so sad. |

I dont mean he wasnt accurate. I mean he was not seeing the whole field, hence "missing" wide open wr's. |

What we need is for Morgan and Long to speedup their learning process, time for a youth infusion.

Throw them in now! We aren't winning the Super Bowl, lets throw the young guys in there. I think within a couple games they would both be better than Polumbus and Chester, respectively. |

He was 79.3% today. RG3 was not the issue today. The right side of the o-line, special teams, and the turnovers in the redzone were the issue. The play calling was less than spectacular. They wasted the last 2 minutes of the first half. We are a 8 - 8 team. We will go 6 - 2 at home team and 2 - 6 road team. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
It still burns me up that we traded down when J.J. Watt was there for the taking in the 2011 draft. I love Kerrigan, and he is a solid player, but J.J. Watt is the best defensive player in the game, and he would have looked great in burgundy and gold. He was an absolute beast today. Thanks, Shanny.

We will probably get him in 8 years after he is good. :laughing- |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
I agree with SDFan2001 - Within a few games you are going to have to make some decisions so throwing in the young guys at this point might not be a bad idea. With as bad as we looked by next month you already might be out of the playoffs, so giving them a good 7 or 8 games to play could be a good thing in the long run...

Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
At least there would a be a reason for the right side to suck. Breaking in two rookies.

I don't think either one was active, so they must have a long way to go. the offensive line is bad, however having a QB that cannot make up his mind makes them look worse than they are. |

While he wasn't the biggest issue, he still had some serious issues with holding the ball, pocket presence and over all play. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
What a crappy f ing day.I went to the game, was hot and sunny when I went in,all hell broke loose during the game with flooding and torrential downpour when I got out.Bad enough we stink it up but then come outside and get soaked to the bone going to the car just made it so much more fun.
My observations from the game: Special teams still suck balls, wtf? Our running game was clicking on all cylinders but we kept going away from it RG3 looked decent, better than preseason for sure but I was so sick of the short passes I could just scream! I dont think he even attempted a pass that wasnt parallel to the line of scrimmage till the 3rd qtr,at least it seemed like it Finally when they did attempt longer passes over the middle I think he connected on all of them. Most of RG3's passes last yr,preseason and 1st game are these dink and dunks and I cant stand it anymore.I'm sure some of that has to do with the line not protecting long enough, all I know is Im sick of it. There was definitely more skins fans at this game than the last time skins played in Houston,Im sure that has something to do with the RG3 Baylor connection. There were skins fans everywhere,at the last game I dont remember seeing more than 10 other skin jerseys |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
That was some harry high school, pure horse shit performance by the offense and special teams. Was that Jim Zorn calling plays out there? I honestly don't think the coaches have any confidence in Griffin by the way the game was called. Did we sign Jackson to catch 5 yard passes? And a blocked pat and fg? Pathetic. Same old Redskins.

The pocket presence is the most concerning thing,I dont know if he's ever going to get it.If you go back to the scouting reports before the draft there were the same concerns about not having a good pocket presence and not being able to feel the rush |

Today he did stupid shit that didn't show up in the stats. Like taking a stupid useless sack when there was a possible FG. The fumble was also on him and he lead Roberts out when he was wide open. His performance was about as average as average gets. |

Didn't get to watch the game, but based on the few drives I saw on Gamecast and heard on the radio I was hoping for more offensive substance than what was delivered.

Also, where the fuck was Brian Orakpo at? Not even 1 hit on the QB. Really? No way we give him a long term contract at this rate.

Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
You had six months to prepare for Watts.
2 Tkl for loss 1 Sack 1 Fumble Recovery 1 Blocked PAT 1 Pass Knock Down 5 O linemen shit their pants. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
Holy overreactions, kids. Let's see how things shake out over the first quarter given our new offense, new HC and new ST coordinator? We had two fumbles inside the opponent's ten and we weren't going against St. Mary's Special Needs Junior High School (aka Dallas's) defense today. Houston is a strong defensive side.

If anything Kirkpatrick gets the ball out quicker than you'd think. Doesn't take a lot of sacks. |
Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
It's really telling and concerning when your lineman dont help you up. The problem isn't the oline, the problem is rg3's lack of vision and decision making.

I still feel like its twofold; the o-line sucks which makes RG3 suck. Not just because he's running around in the pocket, but because he naturally has terrible decision making when he's under pressure. It kills me that the guy still doesn't seem to know when the right moment to throw the ball away is. But hey, at least he learned how to slide. |

I know. I know the whole 'ifs and buts' thing but 2 turnovers inside the 10 yard line, a blown coverage and a blocked punt for a TD are the story of this loss, not RG3 holding the ball too long. People latch to a narrative and refuse to let it go in the face of reality. If the 2nd half RG3 is who shows up every Sunday, I think there will be more smiles than whining around here. We also don't play JJ freaking Watt every week. Dude is only the best defensive player in the league so if he dominates Tyler Polumbus then you just take that for what it is. It's 0-1, not 0-16. Live to play another week. |

Re: Skins vs Texans Gameday Thread
If I would see a consistent pocket that collapses due to RG3 holding the ball too long, I'd be blaming him 100%. Unless I was watching a different game, all I saw was the right side collapsing 95% of the time, not to mention players coming free at RG3 the whole time. It seems that every single PA pass, a Texans defensive players would come untouched at RG3.
RG3 has his flaws, but it is hard to say that it is just him when you don't see a pocket forming at all and see players coming at him untouched. Until we have a decent line or RG3 gets completely with it, Gruden should make the running game the main focus of the offense and ask little of RG3. |

Twenty nine completions for 267 yards is 9.2 yard per and a lot of that was after the catch. And don't blame that on the play calling. He constantly was looking for the check down. During the first 2 series of SF-Dal, Kaepernick under just as much pressure and he moved in the pocket and still hit people down the field. Like a professional QB should. And he didn't cost three 1st round picks. |
