Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

I'd say that Allen does need to come out and say something to the fans and season ticket holders. The season ticket holders are in essence Snyder's customers and they deserve to know what direction the team is going in. This constant silence is just some Mickey Mouse bullshit. Actually Allen was on Redskin Nation, and the Tennessee radio station. He's too much of a pussy to take questions from Washington media.

I can try. It may be more a gut feeling than a one to one comparison. The issues with Vinny that I remember were:

Yes man to DS,
Abrasive personality,
poor talent evaluator,
egotistical and underhanded with both players and coaches.
favored yes men and "superstar" talent

Bruce seems to be a bit of a yes man/DS stooge.
His personality isn't abrasive, but it also seems to be passive aggresive,
at least with QB's (ask Chico) he is 0 for how many,
imo, he comes off as egotistical and underhanded (remember the winning the offseason quote)
I think a team building the best players would have signed KC using the FT as the leverage. I think a team building the best players would have released Hall at this point. I think a team building the best players would have released RG3 instead letting ego win the day.

He's not as abrasive. I think he is a little more deceitful. And he's may be managing to eff up a team that was looking up. (maybe he's not, and I will accept that if they get past their use of leaks and innuendo to disparage those that who disagree with them)

Hence Vinny Light.

Hold judgement until after the draft and really after the 2017 season ends til you say Bruce is effing up the team. Scot's last draft sort of sucked. I agree the FA season thus far is a mixed bag, but he hasn't wrecked anything... yet.

I can't blame Scot for his evaluation of Kirk. Michigan State is known for being a really good backup QB factory for the NFL. 2017 is going to be very interesting. Without his vet receivers around he will have to deal with all youngsters, with Crowder being the only one that has proven himself to be able to be a starter. I am hoping Harris steps it up. Doctson is still a big question mark. I am thinking that we will draft another wr for insurance. If Kirk does well, I think he will definitely shut up all the doubters, as he can thrive with a young wr corp. I don't like what the organization did with Scot, but it is a done deal, and he isn't coming back. It will be quiet and boring at Redskin Park and in the forum til draft day.

Seriously, though....good post.
I don't know what to think of McClain & McGee yet. I don't think we need superstars or Pro Bowlers to improve over last year.

If they can stop the run effectively & maintain their area, we have some decent edge rushers that might make things work out overall.

No, why overreact when the deal is done. Also the bit about MSU QBs is spot on. Kirk is the only one that has earned a starting role and kept it. Back in 2015 if I was the GM, I would have still been hesitant to give Kirk a big offer as well knowing the MSU history and also the fact that the rest of the division was just as banged up or worse than we were. If 2016 was Kirk's ceiling we are in decent shape, just have to make sure to always have shiny new weapons for Kirk to throw to and a line that keeps him nice and comfy!!!!!! Can't say Bruce Allen fucked up with just the Scot McC fiasco, as we will never know what really went down. Especially since Gruden might have played a big factor in it as well. So just strap yourself into your lazy boy this season and let it ride. I mean, what other choice do you have, unless you want to ditch the team.

Yeah, he's only had 7 years with the team, not to mention the countless years with the Raiders and Bucs. But it's real easy to say he hasn't had his fair chance if you blame everything on Shanahan and McCloughan.

One constant in the mix since 2000 and that is
Snyder. If Snyder wants a toadie, he will get a toadie. Blaming the toadie is exactly why
Snyder keeps them around. When
I say give Allen till the end of next season,

Scot was a disaster. You guys are total masochists anyway.

Allen has overseen a ton of terrible drafts already. They goofed things up with the Qb, who would be signed under market value right now. It does take two though, Snyder is always the larger problem.

Pretty accurate speculation, are you trying to tell me if they never franchised Kirk and signed him before the 2016 season to a long term deal he would not have been under contract for less than $24 mil a year which is probably his current market rate?

You make it sound as if Cousins has to sign a contract offered to him. What makes you think he wouldn't have bet on himself? I think he's right, there's no way to know whether Cousins would have taken it.

If Snyder is such a meddler, should we attribute to him the back-to-back winning seasons?

Aside from the McCloughan fiasco, can someone tell me what has happened that is so horrible with the team that we are cursed to go 1-15 next year?

I'm not a Snyder or Allen apologist, but all this criticism makes it sound that we are still the perennial losers from before, despite the record from the past two years.

Also, it seems that no one wants to give Gruden any type of credit for the success of the team or how important it is that we finally seem to have some stability at the head coach position.

For once i swear that i'm not trying to be Debbie Downer, but i think a lot has happened in one offseason that COULD be negative that will affect our record.

#1 you have the major question at QB. Cousins is our man for 2017, or is he? Does he get traded, or does he play out the year as a lame-duck QB if no deal can be reached before July 15? If he gets traded, how many wins can we realistically expect out of Colt McCoy?

#2 The loss of Jackson and Garcon as weapons didn't help anything. I don't know tons about Terrell Pryor. Can he be a legitimate #1 threat at WR?

#3 - There will again be questions about our defense. I am going on a limb and saying that our defense MUST be ranked at least statistically average for us to have a shot in the close games that we lost last year. It isn't realistic again for our offense to have to score above 30 points every week just to give us a chance at winning.

#4 - Positive thing here: I think the Gruden extension does help all of us. My question is if it is a true two year extension or is there contract language to help us get out if we tank this season....

I'm hoping for the best this year like all of us. I think worst case scenario we go 6-10. I do beleive the squad as it is currently assembled is good enough to have that be our worst case scenario. I think best case this year might be 10-6, maybe greater if we have some good luck and things go our way.

Schneed10 03-21-2017 07:27 PM

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

With the change in defensive staff I think we are highly likely to be improved on defense. Having real safeties will help too, and I still think Galette makes a difference.

I am sure we agree that the market and the last franchise tag sets Kirk's yearly value around $24 mil. Are you trying to tell me if someone put a 5 year $100 mil contract with $40 mil guaranteed in front of Kirk before the 2016 season and 9,000 passing yards ago he would not have signed it? Or maybe for a little higher? That would have been quite more than the rumor mill said the Redskins offered that Kirk turned down. I don't think you can argue that the Redskins gambled and lost tagging Kirk two years in a row. They would be lucky to get him for $24 mil a year now on a long term deal.

If you look at DW's resume he's certainly more than qualified. If Elway and Newsome can be successful NFL GM's then why can't DW? I just hope that if he's hired that he's allowed to do the job his way. No bullshit and game playing from Allen. DW doesn't seem like the kind of guy that's going to take any shit from Allen anyway.

I hope they give him the job cause he deserves it and know one else wants to work for the two clowns at the top. Doug knows pro and college football and knows what it takes to build a winner.

True Dire stakes i think this year. If we have another winning season in spite of everything that has happened, some will praise Bruce / Dan.

However if we collapse and win 4 or 5 games, then EVERYONE will blame Bruce and Dan. I don't like either of them, in fact my dislike for Snyder may border on hatred, but i can honestly say those two guys are sort of in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation....

I agree with this. Our list of potential GM hires is limited and small because the BEST candidates do not want to work here. Probably because our GM role has no power in this current set up. There is no long line of top GM canidates lined up at our door begging to be interviewed.
We had a small list of lower level candidates for our defensive coordinator open position this summer when the top candidates that were unemployed and looking for work did not want to work here.
We finally have a top young, healthy NFL QB that we cannot sign to a long term deal.
This is a real reflection of where Snyder and Allen have this team currently.
It is all on them now. Having all the power also brings all of the accountability.

You're not going to have any GM candidates right now because this is a terrible time to be hiring any FO personnel.

The DC search was difficult because our defense was terrible and didn't have a lot of talent. Also, it was difficult to attract candidates with our coach having a year left on his contract.

Finally, please see Denver's negotiations with Von Miller before you complain about the team not being able to sign Cousins.

I'm pretty sure NFL teams have different structures, where the GM doesn't always have all the "power" and still people still go and work for those teams. Whether you like it or not, this is the situation with our team.

Again, aside from the McCloughan situation, please tell me what is so horrible about the team? I'm not saying our team is perfect, but I can name you situations from other teams that are equally as bad, if not worst, but they are not drama-worthy like what happened with our team.

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

Ruhskins... they have totally mismanaged the Cousins deal to the point where it's laughable. They're complete failure to wrap him up last year at 19 million was pure stupidity. And I feel partly that this is because Cousins turned out to be better than Griffin and there are egos involved. Add that in with issues with Scot and they look shaky in the FO to say the least.

In the end none of it really matters if they start out 6-2 and Cousins is signed. No one will care and all will be forgotten. But those are to big if's.
