Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
Rosen and Darnold declared for the draft today.Time to move on from KC and draft a QB. There should be a decent QB available in the first round. The key is can the Redskins figure out who it is ?

Thst is the question. Pro GM's get it wrong all the time. How many of our 1st through 3rd round draft picks have been "good" in the last 5 years? QB is different than all the other positions. It is harder to play and predict. Is there a decent pro QB in this year's draft? The answer is nobody knows until they get on the field. |

I wonder if Case Keenums success this year has JG and BA thinking Colt can do the same.
It’s been a while but I got the impression early on that Jay preferred Colt over Kirk. Colt might be a solid back up plan if Jay was right. Then again, Gruden thinks Ryan Grant is as good as Julio Jones.... |

In the good old days that was true. However, now a day there are 1st and 2nd year QBs leading teams into the play-offs. The Redskins need a good GM more than anything else. They have squandered to many draft choices, money on free-agents, and contracts on their players. |

How many of those first year flash-in-the-pans built upon it their second year and their third year? I'll admit it's easier for coaches to tailor game plans that make their rookie qb's succeed these days, but it doesn't always translate to bigger and better things in their later years. The kind of qb Kirk is now, aka the stay-in-the-pocket, go through your progressions while still having solid pocket awareness to make things happen when the pocket collapses, kinda guy that he is, those style qb's take at least a couple years to mold. |

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
This situation sucks. My opinion literally changed for the 1000th time as I started typing this.
Don't see Kirk ever winning a SB. To me that outweighs everything. I'd rather take my chance on a rookie QB and tons of cap space to bring some younger vets in. Yes, he's the best we've had in a long time, but if the best we have is 9ish wins and a 1st round exit, then that does nothing for me. If you ain't 1st you're last. Its a gamble going with a rookie, but so is locking into a 5 year expensive contract with a 30 year old qb that hasn't consistently shown he can win when it counts. |

-That's what I want, but I kinda lost any hope. -I like Alex Smith a lot, but I'm not sure he would have the same production here, this team is still missing some pieces and he's 4 years older than KC. I would sure like Case Keenum over Bridgewater, but wouldn't the Vikings be even fooler to let him go than the Skins to let Kirk go ? (Not that Case would necessarily be better than Kirk but they/he had one hell of a season and they're going to the playoffs... And he might still be "cheaper" than Kirk, wouldn't he?) |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
Keenum probably isn't coming here. Why would he leave his situation in Minnesota to come here? Makes no sense. He's playing on one of the best teams in the league.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
Teddy is a back half QB. We would be going from a top 10 to 20 or 25. No thank you.
Alex Smith and Case Keenum are the only options and they are a step back to KC. KC is not going any where. The only question is how much is it going to cost us, today's over payment is tomorrows bargain. They could make him the highest paid QB tomorrow and then Rodgers or the next QB deal will pass him. Sign a today tier "15 or 20" RB and we are a 10 - 12 win team. We went 7 - 9 with 20 players on IR. Starting WR, TE, RB, 3rd down back, LT, LG, C, and 3 string RB. This does not include all defensive players. The year sucked and we blew few and won a few we should not. Next year will be better if we sign KC.
I agree. IMO KC is staying here and its only a matter of how much it costs. Like you say, today's over payment is tomorrow's bargain. Why didn't they sign KC back when they could for what $20M? Because it was too expensive. Now everyone is saying what a bargain that would have been. |

The Redskins could be very successful with KC at QB, he just needs a much better supporting cast....RB, WR and a great defense. He is not Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, but most of the fans expect a two minute drive to win every game. It is a moot point though, there is little evidence KC wants to stay in DC. |

But I'm losing hope. Jay has been a Kirk supporter, and now he's starting to pin the 7-9 season on him ? Nonsense! He's the reason we're not 3 and 13 with all the injuries! Jay has never been one to give glowing reviews so ultimately I’ll chalk it up to that.
As far as Kirk not wanting to be here I don’t know about that. I think he just wants to feel wanted and he hasn’t felt that yet. AKA show him the $$. I don’t even think he cares about being the highest paid, he just wants an offer in the ballpark. |

I think that sort of pressure may come more from the agent side of things. And ultimately what he does isn’t going to throw off the entire market so I think any pressure of that type is minimal. |

As far as Kirk goes, I can't help but think of some other destinations that look nicer than DC. I'd maybe take a ski trip out to Colorado and explore a few options if I were him. You should have seen the Bronco's fan message boards light up about going after KC after the win against Denver. |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
From Adam S. " Denver and Washington appear to be the main players in the KC race" He also said Denver is willing to pay BIG money.
|
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
The signing to watch is the one for Jimmy G. In SF, I believe he will be signed and not franchised. They are talking Stafford money, in the 8 games he has played, I believe he won all of them, his accuracy, release and decision making are Brady like and the 49ers had 21 players on IR (one more then the Redskins).
|
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I'm getting to the point that any of the 2 options are fine with me. I really just want it over with:
1. Sign his ass to a long term deal (49%) 2. Trade or let his ass walk and draft rookie (51%) As long as its not a another 1 year tag situation. For all things good in the world, please don't do this to us again. |

Agree with this. These are grown men. They can handle their coach giving an honest assessment of their performance in the media. Why would Kirk think that going to Denver, or somewhere else, would be any different? He's a big boy. Gruden's comments won't factor into his decision. If he leaves, it will be because he just wanted something different. |

He hasn't even made Kirk a respectable offer up to now, so I don't believe that Kirk will get a competitive offer from the Skins. That leaves the Skins with only one option if they want to keep Kirk; that is, the extremely well-paid involuntary servitude of the Franchise Tag. The Transition Tag would be useless to the Skins because they won't match any offer that is at a top of the market price. They might as well just let him walk now. Make a clean break with Kirk and draw up other plans. |

We've gone over why the $20M wasn't a good one many times on this site. Things such as the paltry guaranteed money the Skins offered, the failure of Skins management to accept that Kirk had already signed the Franchise Tag agreement and, as a result of that, the $24M he already had for 2017 was off the table, etc., etc. |
