I gotta think given the draft and amount of qbs on the market Cousins and his agent probably are praying tag and trade to the Jets as they may be the only team to pay him.

So Cousins is going to file a grievance if he is tagged again. He and his agent claim the point of franchise tag is to workout a long term deal.

It's always good to add a link

Report: Kirk Cousins will file grievance if Redskins attempt to tag him | Yardbarker.com

While the Skins would be stupid to tag him, this report still adds to my perception that teams would look at signing KC as bringing in nothing but headaches. You want a qb that is going to work with your FO, KC hasn't seemed like that at any point in his career.

That said, it only becomes an issue if a team is working with KC's agent and starts to get a feeling he is not being a straight shooter with them. If KC and Denver for example are in contract negotiations, and everything is smooth, then Denver will write off all KC's negotiation faux pas as a Washington thing. BUT if they are negotiating and KC's agent suddenly says that another team wants him more and they need more time or money, I think Denver says he's not worth the headache.

This has turned into that classic Husband/Wife divorce, the whole "I'm gonna fuck u over" type deal. Just let the dude walk man, we have a QB now

Skins would be stupid on many levels if they tag him. He should file a grievance. The point of the tag is to work out a long term deal, the Skins obviously have no intention of that.

The NFLPA isn’t going like it, and who knows how long a grievance would drag on. Meanwhile we’re stuck with him counting against the cap. No thanks.

Nope ,you would be wrong.

Question ,why do hate KC so much? The Skins screwed him over by drafting him in the first place after they had already taken RGIII,KC could have been a starter somewhere else already but he did the right thing and waited and was a good team player. Finally he gets the starting nod and does well and creates some stability at a position that the Skins needed desperately and instead of appreciating it they drag out his stay here and show him no appreciation, why would he stay? Pretty much most of your post's are anti KC and I was wondering why?
That would be an admission to violating the franchise tag rules. KC wouldn't need an agent to win that case.
I was pretty sure there was a clause about punitive tags, but I couldn't find it. Tagging him though would invite the NFLPA to argue collusion of the teams to restrict his free movement. It wouldn't be a slam dunk but we wouldn't be able to sign Smith for the expected contract with KCs FT amount on our books.

Good read. Really outlines all of the fallout if Washington tags Kirk again. Brings up the high chance that it blows up in our face if Cousins waits to sign, and if he signs, the Redskins would likely back out of the Alex Smith trade because of the cap hit.

McCarron is now a free agent. He'll also be in the QB mix. He very well could end up on the Browns.

I'm hearing denver is looking at him and Mayfield which makes sense, AJ has not proved to be a starter in the NFL yet so I doubt many teams are sold on him.

Read an article the morning after it was said he may be tagged again. Writer claimed the NFLPA would file as well stating that the 'objective of the franchise tag is to provide teams the ability to retain players'. And that the deal for Alex Smith clearly indicates that retaining KC was not the objective. Read like a PC way of accusing them a 'tag abuse'.

Well I wonder what we'll do if one of the top QB's falls to us at 13? One, maybe even two of the four teams picking ahead of that needs a QB could go the FA route. Do we trade down w/ the Cards? Or do we take the QB? But this is another reason why the Smith trade was questionable. There's a chance that the KC situation w/ Mahomes happens here.

He wanted to do what he thought would get him the most money and I think it even showed on the field. Playing for stats instead of wins. So the Skins should treat him like nothing more than a commodity.
What players said he was sending mix messages?
Chris Thompson for one.

I think everybody got some mixed messages, I will say that," Thompson, one of the first*Redskins*players to comment publicly after the trade, said,*via the Washington Post. "I know for me, talking to Kirk, being with Kirk, all we talked about was, you know, 'C.T., with you staying healthy, we can do this with you, we can do that with you,' and we were able to do a lot of the things that Kirk wanted to do with me. We wanted to continue this, so for me, I expected him to be here.

*knew it would be hard given that we want to win, but if you pay a guy [$30 million] a year, it's going to sacrifice some other things as well, as far as helping our defense out, maybe getting some more receivers, or running backs and all those type of things. It's kind of hard to say. I think everybody got a different feel about it, but I know Kirk enjoyed being with me and I enjoyed being with him, so I wanted him to be here and I think part of him wanted to be here, but at the end of the day, you gotta do whatever you think is best for you and your family."

This whole story line is total BS. Regardless of whether or not the Redskins can pull a tag and trade off, the idea that it is petty to try to get value back for the QB you're losing is ludicrous. Is it worth the risk? Maybe, maybe not, but to characterize the move as anything other than business is horse crap.
