Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Wait till a contending team has a T get hurt, they’ll pay. If Houston gave a 3rd rounder for a RB (Duke Johnson) why can’t the skins get a 1st rounder or more.
My concern is neither party will budge. Williams seems adamant about not playing for us anymore and the team seems adamant about not trading him. I don't trust Allen with a situation this tenuous. Just a poor distraction prior to the season starting, but it is what it is.
The lack of faith in Allen is well placed. But I really do think this is a hard one to screw up. In a game of chicken, Allen is in a mack truck worth $21M and Trent's in a sedan. In the trade market, there are three vultures competing over one body. |
Zimmerman had a streak of not missing a game for 5 straight seasons before he was traded. Trent plays 75% of the time these days, huge difference. Zimmerman played 5 more years for the Vikings, nobody would project that out of Trent.

Thanks for these precisions, I was 5 back then so didn't know much more than what Sheehan and Schefter said about it. I know Trent's history with missing games. I just remember Zimmerman as a perennial Pro Bowler and iron man type that did not miss games and had a long career. I got the exact info by looking it up. |

New England is probably out predictably:
https://nesn.com/2019/08/trent-williams-rumors-patriots-arent-expected-to-pursue-star-tackle/ I think Houston is going to need to pony up the 1st rounder. Interested to see what Miami would offer or if any other teams have legitimate interest. |

How long do you wait for that to happen? A lot of 300+ pounders are known for not being fond of conditioning. The longer Trent sits the more likely he will drift further and further from game shape. |

I disagree. When has Trent ever been out of shape? He has always been a dedicated player and a leader. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
What would the front 7 look like with Clowney? We just drafted Sweat in the 1st.
|
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Out in left field i see a 3 way trade where houston gets TW and another teams 3rd we get Houstons 2nd and another teams 1st or 2nd, and the other team gets Clowney

Things change. How dedicated is he now? This time the more news that comes out this incident isn't on the Redskins, it is on Trent. |

Nay, rather have the 1st round pick and the cap space, or just keep Trent. |

I had to double check...but Clowney never had double digits sacks. Exactly how much to you pay him?

Well, I think he's due something like 15-16 million this year (the last year on his current contract)...surely we can't afford that without jeopardizing future contracts such as Scherff, et al. To me this is nothing more than Texans talk. I'd be thoroughly surprised if the Redskins were even remotely considering this scenario. |

Sacks don’t tell the whole story, if you’ve ever watched him play he’s super disruptive and someone the offense worries about on each play Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Something that I've been thinking about the "medical" stuff. If this was such a terrible issue and there are talks that Trent is considering taking legal action against the team, why isn't the NFLPA all over this? To me, the medical complaints would be some type of work grievance, wouldn't it be? And I know the NFLPA is always willing to stick it to any team and the league.

Do we really need anymore D lineman? That's the least of my worries.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
No question he's a great player who would instantly upgrade the defense, but the price and circumstances are not right. Pass.

True, they need to draft another LT and maybe a LG, + RG. As well as a TE and WR #1. |

More than this year left on his contract. A solution on the left side of the line. A swing tackle who can be relied upon. If you trade straight up for Clowney and get no other compensation (high draft picks as suggested would be the asking price), you are worse off next year than you are this year. I'm not even sure why this is a discussion. No way in hell this happens... |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
The Bruce Allen strategy to fine TW until he returns will NOT work. TW has told friends he will be happy to sit out the season.
The redskins need TW much more than TW needs the Redskins or the money. Although some suppose that we can easily replace TW with Penn, you’re replacing elite with VERY old, average (at best). Our left side of the OL preseason game got TOTALLY ABUSED in PS game one, as well as committing numerous penalties. We just wasted what, $3.5 mill, on Flowers who is turning into a total failure. Why didn’t BA offer that $3.5 mill as guaranteed money for Trent? Offer him serious guaranteed money or trade him, but playing “chicken” with him will work about as well as it did with Cousins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
if he sits out the season, he does not get an accrued year and the redskins still own his rights for 2 years . . . so in essence they could force him to retire or play for the skins . . . great thing to do for your family trent . . . you greedy prick!! |

No. I mean TW is not getting any younger so I am not sure how getting a stud on the other side of the line who has years left in the tank is a terrible way out of this mess? We need to draft left side help on the o line regardless in the very near future. Is it better if TW and us have a stand off this year? His value will only go down as he gets older. |
Trent Williams holding out for new deal
I just dont see us getting a first (which btw does not guarantee you a player better than Clowney) for a 31 year old who has missed about 13 games over the last three years? Even if there is a team who is willing to give one up for someone who if healthy can put them over the top, Id be more inclined for a proven stud like Clowney.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
When TW reports would he have to undergo physical and test for substance or. Is that a ongoing thing even in off season?

I think you're underestimating how important the left tackle is (blindside protector for majority of starting qb's), not to mention how much T.Will is respected around the league (multiple awards, plays through injuries every year, team captain). If some starting tackles go down on contenders I could easily see someone giving up a first for Trent. He's only 31, whoever gets him could easily get another 4-5 years out of him. |

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
More and more articles are coming out about a trade deal. The Redskins are getting calls everyday. All the friends on the Redskins, like AP today, have called TW to try to get him to come back. I just don’t think, for whatever reason, that he ever wants to play for the Redskins again.
So now it’s up to Bruce Allen to try to get the best trade deal that he can with this situation. I think that there would be a huge uproar if BA got anything less than a first round draft pick for TW. I don’t think the Redskins want a player trade, especially for a expensive DL player when the team has been using their topReskins draft picks to build an elite DL. If BA waits for it, he can get a top draft pick from the Texans or someone else for TW. He’s not going anywhere and he either come back to play or he’s traded over the next two years. With 2 first round picks used on the OL and by re-signing Scherff, the Redskins can rebuild an outstanding OL to protect Haskins and open holes for Guice for next season. All I know is we might see our quarterback of the future at some point and we really could use him. What an unbelievably crazy and shitty situation. |

Doubt we could do that AND have enough $ leftover to resign guys like Scherff, Kerrigan... You also get no draft capital to shore up the O line next year. Yeah, no thanks. I don't know if it's "better" to have a stand off, as you call it, but you can't just give in either. TW either comes back to play, or you wait for the deal you can't refuse. |

This is the the best post of the lot on this topic, IMO. A SB contender with no LT is a desperate team. The Skins should simply be patient. It seems like he's not physically ready to practice or play anyway, so why worry about getting him into Redskins Park right away? Just wait him out. He'll probably report eventually. On the other hand, if he's serious about not playing for the Redskins, the Skins should still wait until the deal they want comes along. |

The Redskins hold the cards. To stay away, Trent would have to be willing to give up $617K per week, or $11M per season. And teams will be most willing to make a deal between the week 3 preseason games and Week 1. Gotta just sit tight. |
