I still think Trent doesnt report until week 8, if he is not traded or renewed.

get what you can.

Comp pick is a back end 5th.
Not doable with the new CBA. If he doesn't show up for training camp, he loses his final accrued season towards FA. And if he leaves camp for more than 5 days he also loses it. Not sure the Redskins can waive that either (they can't waive the daily fines he also accrues if he misses camp).

Everytime a new post pops up in this thread I hope it's someone breaking the news 1st that we finally traded him. One day this will be the case.

Before the details of the CBA were made public, this is what was reported, but turns out it’s not quite true. Several weeks ago, it was clarified that losing the accrued season only applies to players with less than 3 or 4 years in the league. Trent is a vested veteran, so the rule does not apply to him. The part that still does apply is the fines, and that the team is not allowed to waive them. So Trent can hold out as long as he did last year as long as he’s ok losing the money.

I heard it in sheehans, Keim’s and Finlays podcasts, but i did some googling and found it here:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/03/24/trent-williams-trade-demand/

At the bottom:
Correction: An earlier version of this article said that a clause in the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement won’t allow veteran players to get credit for a season if they don’t report to training camp. In fact, this clause only applies to veteran players with three or fewer NFL seasons. Players who have been in the NFL for more than three seasons will face daily $50,000 fines but will not lose credit for their season if they fail to report for training camp
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Trent not sitting this year or missing time. It would tarnish his brand and teams not gonna bother with him after sitting two years, that’s too long. The deal he would get wouldn’t have a lot of guaranteed money money..and that’s been the sticking point all along.

Trents playing this year, stone cold lock

Geez.. I'm not sure how I want Redskins to handle this - I definitely do not want Redskins to simply give away Williams without getting a good compensation in return. BUT I want this problem to go away ASAP so Redskins can move forward with the players who want to play for Redskins.

Seattle may have interest:

Still think we get a 3rd for him minimally. He is worth at least that. If this goes past draft day, that is bad news. This has been going on for way too long now. A divorce is highly necessary.

I agree on the bolded part. In this first year of a team build where a culture change is the foundation I do not want a high profile disgruntled player in the building. Truly, if I were in RR's shoes I would cut him and take the comp pick before I allowed him to be around my team every day.

I learned something new. Thank you. Well that muddies the already muddy waters a bit.

Surprised players signed off on that and the non-waiving of team fines. Good for the owners.

" cut him and take the comp pick" ? If they cut him they do not get a comp pick.

Hold on to him and eventually they will get a decent offer. There will be good teams desperate for a good tackle. And Trent will not sit for two years.

Someone is way off on Trent's value. Here is a trade that would be great.

I would be more than happy with that trade. Reiff is not good, but he is fine as a stop-gap. This is a deep WR class, so the extra 4th and 5th rounders this year would let us take fliers on a couple of them.

Reiff gave up 6 sacks and 32 pressures on 545 pass blocking snaps.

Penn gave up 6 sacks and 34 pressures on 553 pass blocking snaps

Reiff has a big contract for two years and a small buyout if they cut him. Does the Vikings signing bonus count toward the Redskins ($2 million a year)? If not the buyout is just a couple million.

The 3 mid-round picks would be a huge addition. ... WR, TE, G, C, CB, S ?

And, if Rieff and Penn are about the same - Rieff is younger with potential to improve, Penn is on the downside of his career. Plus, go for both. Its not like Moses is amazing.

1. Fuck Bill Barnwell.
2. Hell yeah I take that trade. Reiff is definitely better than any option we have or will have in the draft after the 1st couple rounds. Plus it gives us more picks to get a T in training.

Unfortunately, the writer of the story says at the end of the story he has no evidence of the possibility of the trade. I was just trying to point out the range of opions on the value.of Trent.

Sorry Sunny, that post is no longer valid. Doesn't apply to players with more than 3 years of experience. So Trent can hold out all he wants.

It would damage his value way too much. He can be out 2 years at 33 years old at the start of 2021 season and expect a heavy guaranteed money deal.

That's a starting point. So work out a deal, take what you can get, get rid of the malcontent and sign a veteran FA LT on a one year deal. Move on, RR. Move on!

And no working out a contract with Trent beforehand for Minn. The deal with the Skins needs to be done now, before the draft. For little more than a paltry 4th, they take Trent and his current contract and good luck to them on any extension.

If Trent doesn't like it, too bad for him. The Skins don't need to involve him or his agent on any trade.

Yeah, I feel like after the first round and dust will settle on which teams were able to address their Left Tackle need. I'm watching these teams as top trade potential:

Chargers, Browns, Vikings, Jets, and Tompa Bay

The Giants, Jacksonville and Miami are teams that could steal a OT in the first, but wouldn't be a trade partners imo. These are the teams we should be routing for to take 1st round Tackles.

Think Love is another smokescreen. Think it will be Chase and primarily offense as it should be, especially olinemen. Starting to get excited the Williams mess may soon be behind us. "Complicating that matter is Williams' desire for a new contract. He will turn 32 in July and hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2013."

As I've said before, at his point the Redskins shouldn't give dam about Williams' desire for a new contract. Just trade him and let him deal with the other team after he is traded. That looks like the plan and that's good.

But the team that is trading for Williams will care about this, which in turn could affect the trade. No team is going to be stupid enough to trade him for a year's worth play.

I really think teams need to realize they are no longer dealing with Bruce Allen, and should compensate the Redskins if they want Trent. And Trent needs to have reasonable expectations regarding his contract with his new team. I still think the Redskins should hold out until they get reasonable compensation for Trent.

Honestly, both Trent and whatever teams are interested in him are up against the clock here. And both of them need to budge if they want this trade to happen.
