Agree. I hope they keep it WFT. Its unique and it works. The fight song still works by only changing a few words. Anything else is too corny to work. I hope they don't make the same mistake the Wizards did.

I say keep it Washington Football Team and put the W logo on the helmet or on the sleeves of the jerseys. The only other legit option is Warriors in my eyes.

Definitely get the W on the helmets. I cant stand the numbers on the helmets. Its too disjointed and college/high school looking.

The commentators thing gets me thinking we need some kind of nickname, even if it actually becomes unofficial. I mean if you look at every other team the name or its derivation is punchy and has an immediate identity.

For example, Jets! Jets! Jets!

Football Team! Football Team! Football Team! doesn't trip off the tongue does it.

I liked Red Wolves because the animal image and maybe a tasty logo to go with it would fit with the other animal based names, and the fight song would still work with little change. But anything that works is fine by me. Just can't help thinking Football Team is a bit meh. And will it age well too?

I like WFT but I am still hanging on that it is a business decision if Snyder is ever forced to sell. An unnamed team where a new owner can come in and name it is more valuable than one with a new nickname.

I don't think it is the end all be all but I think that it could be a factor. I am not sure Snyder is thinking that so much as Jason Wright. Wright seems pretty savvy. Being able to court potential buyers with the idea they can name the franchise does not seem far fetched to me.

I like Washington Football Team but it is weird to use in conversation. "Washington" is too generic.

I'm going to watch the Washington game is not specific enough. That can mean any number of things.

I'm going to watch The Football Team game sounds like you're trolling people.

And Washington Football Team is just too long to say in conversation.

Now, is that enough reason to not keep it? I don't know. Depends on what the final choice is imo.

I like Washington Wolves. We can still use the W we all seem to like and it's not trying too hard to basically keep the same name. And it comes off the tongue easily.

Agreed and there's also the publicity and financial benefits of changing it. Merchandising etc. I wouldn't be surprised that this year has seen a dip, if only comparative, in merchandise sales. And relaunching the team name on the back of the current surge on the field can't be underestimated.

I'm a Braves fan. I like our chances. My 3 favorite pro teams growing up:

1. Redskins, changed to WFT
2. Braves going to be changed to TBD
2. Supersonics moving altogether and becoming OKC

I would do away with any reference to native Americans ( it’s not just the redskin name .. it’s obvious now with the Indians having to change that any reference is frowned upon ... next it will be chiefs, blackhawks ... etc etc

Yes I think so...and it makes me mad that whenever the Blackhawks are mentioned, analysts just pour the love out for the Blackhawks logo saying how awesome and respectful it is....the REDSKINS logo was designed BY A CHIEF and was much classier looking than the Blackhawks logo...which is still cartoony if you ask me.

They will keep it, there is no point in changing the name again next season. The branding is already there, and it's a good name to keep forever. I don't want to see Red wolves, so corny. If it's not Warriors just stick with WFT

Although I favor Red Wolves, there is something iconoclastic about WFT that appeals to me. It stands out among all the lions and tigers and bears, "Oh my!". It's as if we're telling the PC world: "We don't got to have no stinkin' mascot". And I've gotten to the point where I really like the retro unis too, numbers on the helmets and all - especially the all-white unis.

Before the season the teams have to announce the uniforms they are wearing for every home game. I doubt that they made that decision during the summer to wear the whites at home but you never know.

I do hope they wear the burgundy over gold pants once at least, this week would be good for that IMO

I get why not wanting Redwolves, but why do you like Warriors so much? It's a generic name and its already used by another pro sports team.

If we're going generic, just keep WFT. It's nothing but at the same time super original for U.S. sports teams.
