( @AdamSchefter 1st). Washington developed a young safety corps, which pushed McCain to nickel corner. SFredskins gonna be happy!
I think they love Butler and Forrest, nickel corner addition in the future . Good, Second item on my list of things to do. Post June 1st so saved $4m+. Third is same with Norwell, first is obvious. |

Dude seriously looks like that beta Prince Harry and Andy Samberg if they had a son. So glad I don’t have to look at that anymore on my team…it’s uncanny. Glad to see some cap space open up |

Sweet, let's go shopping.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I like him, but Logan Thomas also needs to go. We have 3 young up and coming TE’s, love Bates and Rogers. Waiting for Turner to show up next year. As for Roullier, I would ask to restructure or cut him, another good guy.

I didn’t think this would be possible, but Keim seems to think Logan could be done. I like Thomas, but damn his blocking has gotten so bad. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I think it is great that we are at the point as a team where we can release a veteran like McCain, because we were able to develop a young talent like Forrest.
I'm with SFREDSKIN to, as much as I like Logan, I feel like we have a lot of young talent behind him and would be fine releasing him.
I didn’t think this would be possible, but Keim seems to think Logan could be done. Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
They can release him, but I'd look to add a TE via free agency if they did. There are several solid younger TE options in free agency. Gesicki or Engram would be a nice addition...

Would Miami part ways with Gesicki though? I think Engram would be a good pick up. Given how good our young TEs are and our depth of talent among the WRs, I'd be looking for another blocking TE. |

I wouldn’t spend at TE if we cut him. This coming draft class has some players at TE

I would think Bieniemy would want to bring in a veteran TE if they decide to cut Thomas. Can't see him rolling with Bates, Turner, Rogers, and a rookie. |

Gesicki will be expensive. Engram, probably not much. |

Well Bates will be going into his 3rd year. And you're forgetting Curtis Hodges. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Spotrac estimates their next contracts like this:
Gesicki: 4 years/$33 mil. Average salary: $8.2 mil Engram: 3 years/$28 mil. Average salary: $9.3 mil. |

That's because he's at least the 5th TE on the depth chart. Has he played a NFL snap? |

The team liked all three rookie TEs Turner, Rodgers, and Hodges. I think they were able to keep all three of them through IR and what not. I *think* Turner went on IR or something like that? I don't mind them bringing a veteran TE, but I know that all three rookies showed a lot of promise this past off-season, to the point that they did not want to release them. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I don't even remember him - Hodges.
All I know is the TE group as a whole has been unimpressive of late. Of course the LT injury and lack of capability at the QB position had a lot to do with that. Is either issue resolved? I'm not sure we know yet. |

No need to spend money money where don’t need it, pay Payne, Sweat and young. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I would argue that paying Payne is the definition of "spending money where don't need it", and there's no way they can pay Sweat, Young, Payne, & Allen.
They could save about $7 mil by releasing Thomas. If that would allow them the flexibility to add a Gesicki/Engram type, I'd be all for it. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
The O-line needs a complete overhaul that will involve both the draft and free agency.
Both starting Tackles will be 32 this year and are barely swing tackles. Trai Turner is garbage, Norwell will also be 32 and is average at best, Chase R is unreliable. Cosmi may pan out, but where...? The jury is still out on C Paul. He's played one game. They will be paying O-linemen. |

Charles, Paul, lucas. Atlanta and Seattle were able to do it, there’s lot OL talent in this draft. |
While I’m all for using a pick on a LB later in the draft, but could you imagine tagging Payne and then adding Wagner next to Jamin Davis?
Adding a vet a LB the caliber of Wagner to this defense, I think it’s a top 5, maybe top 3.
I don't know about the top 5/3 part of it, we've been expecting so much for so long, that they need to truly deliver before I crown them anything. But agreed a 100%, I was yelling during all of last year's off-season that we needed to sign a proven MLB, Wagner was top of the list last year, I haven't checked 2023 FA LB yet but he has to be near the top of the list this year too! Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I’m not paying anymore for FA’s unless they are our own or cheap , stick to the draft.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Maybe lost in the Wentz 'news', but McCain is gone too. Not a major loss at all, but it probably means we need to think harder about a starting corner in the draft. I agree with pursuing Wagner or the like in FA and free up picks for OL and DB primarily. I for one hour they go with a starting CB if there at #16. There are a few candidates that should be there when we pick, like Porter. Enough OL talent to shore up the line, plus there are some good FAs.

If Philly "stuck to the draft", they would not have been in the Super Bowl this year. Same with KC. You have to use both the draft and free agency, and you have to spend. Look at what picking up "cheap" free agents for our O-line got us this year. And LB... It really doesn't make sense to have 40-50% of your cap go to one unit on the team, which is what it would be if they kept Young, Allen, Payne, and Sweat. |

Yeah, that was probably a factor too, you are right. Maybe they like the TE room as is, and maybe they think LT will come back and be the TE he was last year before he got hurt. I was just saying that if they don't, then he could be released and they could pick up another TE in free agency and have the same cap impact, but likely more production. |

I think building the OL through the draft and signing OL to affordable contracts is they way to go. They beat the playoff desperate cowboys with our shitty line, Howell was the difference. Getting some young solid OL in the draft is worth the gamble, they will get better. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I highly recommend listening to this Keim/Joel Correy podcast video. Really good cap info, Payne will definitely be tagged. Should be interesting what happens with Sweat and Young, good thing Howell will be the QB, saves a shitload of money and helps signs our FA’s.

Since the season ended it's been considered an almost guarantee that D Payne would be tagged. The question is, will he then be traded...?
