You got it semi right. Ditka was the one who wanted to make the trade and had final authority on such matters. Before the draft he stated that he would trade his entire set of draft picks to move up and get Ricky Williams.

The trade was:
Redskins #1 (5 overall)

Saints #1 (12 overall)
Saints #3 (71 overall)
Saints #4 (107 overall)
Saints #5 (144 overall)
Saints #6 (179 overall)
Saints #7 (218 overall)
Saints 1st rounder in 2000
Saints 3rd rounder in 2000

We of course then traded a bunch of those picks to move up to #7 and take Champ.

While I think it is stupid to keep using, this really makes me sad. I'm a big fan of Ricky. I've liked him for a while now, it saddens me that he can't put down the weed long enough to get it together and tote the rock. I thought he had a pretty decent year and I would have liked to have seen him get his career and life back together.

Just heard on Mike and Mike that it's considered failing if you don't show up -- rumor has it he's hanging out in India doing stuff during this part of the off-season and didn't show up for testing. Equally as stupid, but he hasn't necessarily gone back to weed.

i actually lkiked ricky, i remember i think our second yr with spurrier that yr the dolphins were a wildcard team.........i beleive that if ricky never left, and doplhins had a decent quarterback they could still be playoff caliber...........i really liked ricky too.....hes jst an idiot......i hope he gets another chance to tuen his life around

now he'll probably appeal it and win just because he didnt do anything, he was just on "vacation"
