First off he is a great football player. Yes he is getting up there in years and that is why we will pass on him. He most likely wouldn't come here anyway. That being a Cowboy thing. Where he will go is Seattle!

l allen isnt a great football player anymore.close to m vick as being one of the most over rated players in the league.too old,injury prone,and definitly wants too much money.i agree if he signs elsewhere dallas line has alot of holes to plug.the human statue(bledsoe)might have T.O. to throw to,but no time to do it

3. Jon Runyan, OT, Philadelphia Eagles – Runyan visited the Jets on Tuesday, as it continues to look like the Eagles have little interest in bringing him back. The Jets have a void at right offensive tackle that Runyan could fill, as do the Ravens, and it's believed that Runyan wants to remain on the East coast to stay relatively close to his New Jersey home. So don't rule out the Patriots. His age (32) and inconsistency last season are both concerns.

4. Stephen Neal, G, New England Patriots – Neal has spent time with the Vikings, Texans and Bills. There is a strong possibility the Seahawks will dip into free agency for a guard now that Steve Hutchinson is gone. Neal turns 30 in October, but he could be a serviceable starter for a few more years.

5. Tom Ashworth, OT, New England Patriots – Ashworth continues to make the rounds. By the time he signs, he may have visited as many as a half-dozen teams. The Jets and Texans remain strong possibilities, but Ashworth may not sign until after Runyan's situation has sorted itself out. He turns 29 in October, and like Neal, could be plugged in and perform solidly at right tackle. He's not a big-splash signing, but there aren't any of those left in the tackle pool.

Dockery may be a question mark - or he may not. While not our best O-lineman, he would start for most teams, he's young and cheap(-ish), and might end up getting better. There is mathematically no chance of Larry Allen improving as an offensive lineman, which means we'd be paying for declining results at the expense of an improving player. The answer is no.

If Larry Allen was to take a minimum salary here (which seems to be part of the dream), why wouldn't he take a minimum salary with the team where his family lives, he's going to get his number retired, and where he probably hasn't paid for a meal in ten years? He'll return to Dallas, unless the Cards pay him foolish money.

I say no, we need someone who will play for $1m a year or less and can play both guard and center. He doesnt fit either of those requirements...

It would be quite tempting to take a Cowboy great, have his ass sit on the bench and wear a Redskins jersey. The Boy fans would hate that. But I think with the money we would pay him we could get 3 other lineman that would be more usefull

Dockery is solid if unspectacular. The coaches have praised him & unlike T. Jacobs for e.g., he's shown improvement. They all say he has a lot of upside, this will probably be the year he shows it, as he's a free agent in 07. No way would it be good for us to insert Allen in his place, & Allen would just be collecting checks before retirement if he was 2nd string.
Plus, I hate signing ex-boys!!

Has anybody thought of what this might do to Dallas' chemistry or lack thereof? Is Allen a leader or more of a problem lately. I know tuna had issues w/him.
Remember him grabbing cortez by the face mask? When I think of that now all I can think of is him grabbin TO like that. Now he won't have the chance unless they resign him.
Bayless on espn.com said that the TO signing was a huge mistake & that the boys have lost some of their leaders. He said that before Allen was cut. Now that he & Keyshawn are gone, I can't think of any player they have that will get in TO's face.
Allen's release might have a bigger impact on the boys than tuna is ready for.
