Re: Why Did Ramsey Really Go to the Jets?
Everyone did before Gibbs arrived, and that includes almost everyone on this site at the time, that's why Miami was offering a high draft pick the season before, it was a brillant job by Gibbs to burn this kid down and get nothing for him.
Kind of funny no one had Bree's as a starting QB a couple of seasons ago, I do believe the Chargers drafted one Phillip Rivers to replace him with the intention of releasing him until Rivers held out, how did that pan out? Bottom line your right I am no GM, and neither is Gibbs, why else would you give up a second rd pick for a QB who was about to be released and would have never sniffed a 43 million dollar contract? How about all these late round gems we heard about last year? Im still waiting to see just one. Now we are hearing the same thing again Gibbs talking about finding that late round gem, for some reason I believe he thinks that because Bobby Beathard was a genious at those type of picks so is he, well I am still waiting to see it! Gibbs IMO has proved nothing about talent evaluation, Cooley is the 1 player I give him props for, the rest were simple top 10 picks that anyone could have made. Free agent signings? If you can't evaluate a current established, NFL starter than get out of the talent evaluation buisness. The signing of established talent at the rate we do is a big sign that we have no confidence in our ability to evaluate talent coming out of college. Lets see how we pan out this draft, I do hope we get it right.
We've been wondering where you've been? You've been pretty quiet lately. |
Re: Why Did Ramsey Really Go to the Jets?
I'm never going to understand why people think Ramsey is destined to be a top 10 QB in this league someday. When there are talents out there like Eli Manning, Peyton, Brady, Brees, Brad Johnson, McNabb, Culpepper, Roethlisberger, Carson Palmer, Delhomme, and Hasselbeck, I just don't understand what people see in Patrick Ramsey that makes them think he's going to one day join the ranks of those type QBs.
How could you say Brad Johnson, who will be 38 this year, is a top 10 QB. He's not a top 10 QB now, and he definitely won't be by the time Ramsey ever does (if he does) |

That's what I was thinking. When Scneed mentioned him I did a mental cut to the gorilla cage a la Trading Places. Update: Beeks. That's the name I couldn't remember. Eddie Murphy (Billy Ray): "I forgot all about that guy." (Cut to Gorilla Cage) |

Re: Why Did Ramsey Really Go to the Jets?
I think Ramsey is a great guy, but I don't think he will ever be anything special at this point. Even his one long TD pass to Moss in the Giants game was a bad pass that Moss jumped for and made a guy fall down. Basically Moss made Ramsey look good. Even though some of us love to hate Brunell and his wimpy arm, he really knows how to play QB and I have a lot of confidence in him making good decisions. Will Ramsey ever get to that point? I wonder.

Probably because we haven't had a Ramsey thread in a while. Unfortunately, here we go yet again. Ramsey the great... apparently 32 teams around the league are just dead wrong about him. Why don't they see the Montana-esque greatness that lies beneath? A Hall of Fame coach that appears to know a thing or two about evaluating QBs is just dead wrong too, right? :cheeky-sm |

Sorry, that wasn't my intention to say Johnson is necessarily a top 10 QB. I do think he's pretty good though. I was just making a point that with these QBs currently playing in the league, what in the world makes anyone think Ramsey will be as good as these guys are now? I don't think Ramsey will ever be as good as Brad Johnson is right now. |

Myself! To piggy back on MK's post, it is interesting that 32 GM's around the league fail to recognize the the greatness that inspired the legendary NFL coach Steve Spurrier to draft.............oh that's right, Spurrier left in shame as a complete NFL failure.........................maybe the other guys....are correct??? Maybe the burnt out, inept, petty fool that burned down the greatest QB in Redskins history, didn't lead us back to respectability for the first time since his last tenure???????????? maybe not |
Re: Why Did Ramsey Really Go to the Jets?
Man just what I've been waiting for another Ramsey debate. After this can we hop over to the Arrington debate.

Re: Why Did Ramsey Really Go to the Jets?
Man all this talk about Ramsey made me realize how much I miss him. I don't know I miss the most Ramsey or Arington. Hey, that could be our next poll. Who do you miss the most Lavar or Ramsey and why?

The funny thing about all of this is that it will never go away. If Ramsey craps the bed in NY there will be the 'told you so' crowd and if he lights it up then the 'we never should have gotten rid of him' chorus will chime in.. The only thing that will end the discussion once and for all is Jason Campbell becoming a Super Bowl winning Pro Bowl QB.. |
Re: Why Did Ramsey Really Go to the Jets?
Well, other QB castoffs have gone on to have some pretty good careers with other teams:
Brett Favre (Falcons) Trent Green (Redskins) Tom Tupa (Cardinals)....oh yeah, but as a punter Vinny Testaverde (Bucs) Rich Gannon (Patriots) Doug Flutie (Rams) Jeff Rutledge (Rams) Steve DeBerg (Cowboys) Ron Jaworski (Rams) .....Joe Theismann (Dolphins) Hell, even Doug Williams as good as he was didn't win a SB until he came to Washington. My point is that lots of QBs given up for dead end up with some pretty good careers after leaving the team that drafted them. I personally don't think the story has been completely written for Ramsey. Let's see. Oh, and please don't review this list and tell me which draft picks were traded to get the QBs. If they were that important to their original team, they would not have been let go in a trade either. Even Ramsey got a 6th rounder. One more for the road. Sonny Jurgenson was originally an Eagle for godsakes. |
