He seems to me like a big project. If the giants really see a lot of potential in him, by what I am reading about him, one person would need to be dedicated to him to get him up to speed to even have a chance (let alone be good/great).

Wasn't McCune the redskins were physically impressed with ? If he was, then I say Havner is the anti-McCune. It sounds like Havner is going to be a fly-under-the-radar player from that report.

id like mccune to be gone personally. lots of ppl on here have fallen in love with him, but i see him as nothing more than a special teams player (which we just got several in the draft). hes a 27 year old 2nd year player

I see another situation like Newberry last year. I think Havner will make the team and Simon won't. I also think its to early to give up on McCune. He is a monster with 4.5 speed at MLB. He played great in college and I think its only a matter of time until he starts to really show people what he can do.

Fast and strong. Football smarts, questionable.

Physically, he's a beast. I personally like that he's 27 yrs old. He more mature, understands his role, has military experience, etc.

I'd love to see him get a legitimate shot at ILB this preseason, or even at weakside. Lamar Marshall isn't quite getting it done... Sure he's got the tackles, but that is because everyone runs right to his part of the field.

As far as football smarts go - all I can say is he ran a pretty tough defense from a pretty tough position in a pretty tough conference. He deserves a shot. Not to mention he's one of the highest drafted linebackers we have, even as a fifth (?) round choice.

lemar isn't getting it done? turning it over to a complete unknown with little NFL experience with no questions asked? sorry, but i think that's insane.

Lemme see... Lemar was unknown, but was never and will never be as strong or fast, nor did he have as good a college career. He only starts because another once unknown (AP #58) who was almost as fast, but not as strong, and definately didn't have the college career of McCune turned out to be a great leader in G Will's schemes.

You think a 27 year old Military vet may be able to lead his classmates of '04?

Lastly, I didn't suggest turning over the reigns, I said I'd like to see him get a legitimate shot at the job.

uh, lemar started FOURTEEN games due to injury (and filled in well) before getting a starting nod the next year. he was good enough in practice that the staff felt he could be trusted (they saw him breaking down film with pierce well beyond what other players were doing). all last year holdman (who blatantly sucked) was used more than any other reserve, meaning they showed nothing in practice to merit playing time.

i have NO idea why you think being a military vet means anything as far as talent or field awareness. this is the NFL, not college. speed means jack if you're out of position r misread the play.

injury concerns... maybe he screwed up his interview, maybe he got overlooked... unfortunately, we're not privy to the background checks and such teams do on these guys, or the full medical info.

Because draft gurus are idiots; they tend to get caught up with the numbers too much. They put too much emphasis on the measurable numbers with speed, strength, and physical features. They do not put enough weight on (and sometimes totally ignore) how the players actually played .
