plus when u take into account all of the practices and film sessions the players have to go to, they don't have the time or energy to also work a full time job and do well enough in school to maintain their scholarship. I think they should get some type of money, it's just a matter of coming up with an amount for the players to have money to buy what they [I]need[/I] and not so much what they [I]want.[/I]

No amount of "gifts" recieved can enhance a players performance on the field (unless it's steroids). As far as this fan is concerned, the Heisman stays where it belongs....in the hands of the performer... Reggie Bush! We the fans don't decide who gets the almighty award, so it doesn't really matter if he has been honored. If there was to be any discussion about the "infraction", then it should have been brought forth at the time of the vote and not a year later! This so-called "agent" was bitter about Reggie leaving to enter the NFL and he was dumped! He lost out on millions of dollars! But we don't question his friggin integrity?! Money has no name this sounds like retaliation!

Its not about even being a fan of USC or any other school Im a little upset that there giving this man all kinds of shit one year after the fact....Most of these athletes came from nothing anyway...so why not cut his family a piece of the pie....Tell me He didnt bring in huge ass revenue for that school anyway!? Anyway stop the Reggie bashing

Well sound off people...aren't u a little upset that only reggie bush is getting his ass burned for this..most great D1 Athletes have accepted some type of "Gift"...MOST OF THEM COME FROM NOTHING!!!!!!! So whats wrong with them having a little something like most kids?

pg86 -- I think most of us don't care, but when the rules are the rules it sets a poor precident for the NCAA to look over it because it's the golden boy Bush. Don't get on USC hating, that team gets more props than it deserves.

That said, Reggie Bush has had character issues brought up even before the draft. NFL radio today had heard that the Texans didn't like what they heard from Reggie in interviews and how he carried himself which is why they went with Mario.

Yeah but if thats the case..How come noone is bitting Leinarts nuts..He won the Heisman too and WE ALL KNOW HE ACCEPTED SOME STUFF..

Not saying he didn't at some point, but definitely not at the level Reggie is accused of. Matt's family is fairly well off, so it's not like he really needed any of it. While I've seen second and third stringers drive around in Navigators and tricked out Jeeps on campus, Leinart was driving around an old Ford pickup. He had an entourage around him at all times to protect him from student fans while going to class (trust me, it was pretty crazy for him and Reggie last season)... more specifically, to keep agents away from him at all times. Out of all the superstars, I think Matt was an anomaly at SC.

Funny I wonder if they are as concerned about these kids in college gaining an advantage through performance enhancing drugs?

These kids are told they are not allowed to enter the NFL at an early age, that they have to spend 2 years in college, oh and by the way your not allowed to make money off your talent, that is reserved for us the NCAA!

The NCAA rules and the whole "armature status" is a joke.
The NCAA collects all the money, assume all the players come from families with money and set unrealistic rules for the players in regards to income while in college.
However until the rules are changed they are what they are. I am tired of people saying it is fine to break the rules because they do not agree with the rules.

In Bush's case this was not a shopping spree and a car; or giving a financially struggling player a helping hand. This was major amounts of money, 100's of thounds of dollars being given to him in defiance of the major rule NCAA "amateurism". His parents didn't NEED to live in a million dollar home. They didn't need a limo, new suits and make-overs. Reggie Bush and the NFL's character really need to be called in on this one. What else will Reggie Bush do for money, throw a game?

What kills me is the double standard:
When a great player (Warren Sapp or Randy Moss for example) gets caught smoking a joint in college (misdemeanor), they get labeled by the NFL teams as trouble and their draft grade and reputation as a decent human is downgraded.
However a player (Bush for example) breaks major rules that could affect his team’s future eligibility and people want to sweep it under the rug as another white collar crime. What Reggie did has consequences that wil hurt other people, all the players and coaches on the USC team might have to pay the price for Reggie's greed. This is not a victimless transgression.

A couple of thoughts.

1) If this is treated as a victimless crime, then (maybe) people will forget about it, thus allowing the NCAA to do nothing about it except some investigation which will finish long after anybody cares. In this manner they can avoid harming USC.

2) If the NCAA gave a damn about the athletes, they would have some pool of supplementary money given to athletes that really need it. Donors would not be allowed to earmark the money for their desired school. In this manner it would be easy for that Clemson player to get money, and at the same time no school would have an unfair advantage.

I don't know why were talking about Reggie Bush here .... maybe Blundering George...but since we are on the subject: The Guy is already guilty after a couple allegations by a bitter sports agent? What happened to innocent until proven guilty? He don't seem too worried about it...What we should be talking about is Gibbs high school approach to benching Portis for missing practice! What a joke, this is big business and we pay to watch Portis ( he isn't hurt and wants to play!) we don't pay to watch Gibbs! ... I hate to say it but the ancient one needs to GO!

good points, but unless the NCAA starts paying the players and paying people to do background checks/keep tabs on them, the corruption will continue. this isn't just a USC problem, this isn't just a reggie bush problem, and whatever the consequences, they're going to be largely ignored by many, because only 1/1000 transgressions gets caught (much like speeding tickets).

Reggie was dumb for taking such large sums while in such a spotlight, but even though he should have known better, i bet it's harder to say no when all that free money is sitting right in front of you.

Nothing. He didn't do anything illegal. Just against the NCAA rules. I guess USC could have some problems though. Retroactive forfeits and such. Loss of bowl monies maybe.
