Re: Does the Eagles run remind you of anything???
By the way, those defenses were the best of all time...they surpass great.
Of course I remember the 91 Eagles...I remember the 85 Bears...I'll be 32 in a couple weeks. Those were some outstanding defenses. PS- the Skins had some great defenses in their time too. The 82 and 91 teams.
We had some very fine and underated defenses. The 91 defense was insane. A bunch of mix and matching parts that worked so well together. Jumpy Geathers and Fred Stokes rushing the passer. Tim Johnson and Eric Williams stopping th run. Goviuea and Millen in the middle. Casserly did a great job putting that team together. Ritchie Petibone does not get enough credit in this town. It all goes to Gibbs and I think it's too bad. If there was a Hall of Fame for assitants RP would be a first ballot. He may or may not have been head coach material, but he was a GREAT defensive coordinator. |
We were better than they are though. We underachieved and then finally played up to our potential, whereas they are in way over their heads this year. That's not to take anything away from them, their run has been phenomenal, but I would be real surprised to see them win a playoff game.
I dont think they are over acheiving. They are a good team. Good enough to be in the playoffs. To say we were better than them may be a stretch. They have something this year comparable to last year, the togetherness, the never die attitude. These guys have rallied around Garcia and are playing really good football. To win the games they have on the road. I really wouldn't be the team to play them in the playoffs. |

That's funny that you bring up Petibone...I was just talking about him to my wife over lunch. I was complaining about the overpriced talent, and we don't need all stars, we need a bunch of players that play well together. Petibone knew that and it showed. |

He was one of the best of all time. How many Hall of Famers did he coach on defense? One and it will be Darrell Green. That's it. 3 SB's and one Hall of Famer. Just as impressive as 3 SB's with three different QB's in my opinion. Not only did they play well together but half time adjustments were great too. |

Ah yes, the good ole days. Hopefully the ship will be righted in 07. |
It does, huh? Terrell Owens is the one who's gay and Romo's a homo!
I was referring to TO saying that about Garcia not that I disagree with your comment |

I think most true fans of that era give Bones his due. He did have some great players though beyond DG though-Mann, Manley, Marshall, Butz. Whether he made them great or they just were great I don't know. |

not that I disagree with your comment
I know, I remember that episode of "As TO turns". TO is an idiot, but he's really starting to do a good job of ruining the Cowboys, I couldn't be more proud of him! Keep it up TO, finish the job! P.S. for TO: Call Romo a homo that would be hilarious! |
Re: Does the Eagles run remind you of anything???
Yeah I say it looks very similar. They too are playing with alot of heart. And I love that especially coming from the quarterback position. Something that OUR qb needs, and I've said that before.

I think Campbell has the heart, but unfortunately he lacks the experience. I think his experience this season will pay huge dividends next season for him and the team. |
Re: Does the Eagles run remind you of anything???
It reminds me of the Eagles' runs in 02 and 03, 02 with McNabb hurt, and 03 with that come from behind whatnot.
The difference is the 06 Eagles are WAY better than either the 02 or the 03 team. But like those teams, they win the division again this year because they have zero competition. The Redskins were supposed to be a 12 win team and now they are a 5-6 win team. The Giants have done their classic late season collapse. The Cowboys are a good team, but were never better than Phili. I'm sorry, but when a team wins a division by going on the road in the division 3 straight weeks and winning, they didn't win it as much as the other teams lost it. In theroy, each game from Week 14 on should have been progressively more exausting. We should have beaten them the way we played, but the Giants and Cowboys have no excuse! The Eagles deserve the division because 3 teams underachieve. Jeff Garcia has been a great QB for years, and his skills are still comprable to that of McNabb's, but I don't see anyway that ANY team can get by the Bears, exception to the law of "Any Given Sunday". |
Re: Does the Eagles run remind you of anything???
Honestly,
I could see them going deep into the playoffs. I'm rooting very hard for New Orleans in the playoffs (Unless GB somehow squeaks in). But I dont know, I could see anyone in the playoffs (except NYG if they make it) making a run in the NFC. Yeah Chicago and NO are really good, but they've been beating alot of the crappy NFC the whole year, so who knows?
One has to think Chicago is going to do what it takes to beat Green Bay this week just to ensure they don't make the playoffs. |
Re: Does the Eagles run remind you of anything???
I hate to say it but I'm having a hard time not rooting for Philly. They've been on a heck of a run and it's cool to see Garcia back from the dead.
Anybody but Dallas is always my view on the division and it was great seeing Philly punk them! |

I hate Dallas so much that I am willing to route for Phily to acheive the goal of Dallas implosion. |
Re: Does the Eagles run remind you of anything???
Hate to eulogize the Eagles, but what they've done this year is a heck of a lot more impressive than what we accomplished last year. They've beaten 3 division rivals all on the road.
That said, they will probably exit in the first round of the playoffs. |
