Re: Make the cuts and add some depth...
You're moves make a lot of sense, Schneed. I take it you feel all or most of the guys listed as special teams/depth are quality guys to have? If Springs and Priouleau go down do you feel fairly comfortable with Fox, Doughty and Vincent playing in their place?
Also, is that a Roger Clemens quote in your sig? |
Re: Make the cuts and add some depth...
If I'm in charge, I'm not making too many personnel changes. I'm a big believer in the theory that a defense is a chain - if one link is weak, the whole thing breaks and makes the rest of the links look feeble.
Our weak links are at CB, SS, and DT in my opinion. With horrendous safety play, the CBs had to be perfect. Which they weren't, because Springs was hurt and Rogers should only be covering #2s. We also were a bit too weak at the point of attack in the middle of the line. Marshall and Washington didn't forget how to play football. They're still the same guys who were part of our 9th ranked D in 2005. My moves are cap driven: - Cut Archuleta post June 1 - Force Renaldo Wynn to accept a paycut, if he doesn't, cut him. - Don't resign Warrick Holdman, start Rocky. - Let Salave'a go. - Let Kenny Wright go. - Sign Nate Clements, CB - Draft Alan Branch, DT - Let Springs play SS on running downs, nickel CB on passing downs. DE: Carter, Daniels DT: Griffin, Branch LB: Washington, Marshall, McIntosh S: Taylor, Springs (Prioleau as SS in nickel packages) CB: Clements, Rogers (Springs as nickel CB) Keep Doughty, Khary Campbell, Vernon Fox, Troy Vincent, Demetric Evans, Renaldo Wynn, Kedric Golston, Anthony Montgomery, Ade Jimoh, Pierson Prioleau as special teamers/depth. Add some LB depth from free agency (there are lots out there, if cap space permits, get a starter type like Lance Briggs, Cato June, London Fletcher).
Is Cato June a FA? If so, he's the one....a local boy! In fact, if I had to choose Cato over Clemement, I'd take Cato |
Re: Make the cuts and add some depth...
i would really like to sign adalius thomas of the ravens. the man plays all positions on defense.
he would be a good player to pick up. |
Re: Make the cuts and add some depth...
But also a "win now" fix. Isn't he 30+?

Also, is that a Roger Clemens quote in your sig?
Regarding the depth guys, I'd keep Doughty, the Ade, and Khary Campbell for their special teams abilities alone. Those guys are demons. Doughty was effin dudes up on kick and punt coverage come the end of the season. Fox and Vincent seem like solid depth to me. The secondary started to give up fewer big plays with them out there. A Springs/Prioleau tandem at SS would be better; but Fox and Vincent know the GW system and can play a little bit. Funny you ask about my signature, I just changed it. Before when it read "Who's the dead man who hit me with the salt shaker," that was a quote from the movie Dumb & Dumber. As for the line "Work and deserve it, earn it to own it," that's just a motto I am humbly suggesting the Redskins adopt for 2007. It's a lyric from G Love's song "Baby Got Sauce." |

Go over to the Ravens site and look up the tackles stats. It's just sick how their linebacker are all over the place. It's no wonder they always lead the league in defensive touchdowns and have high turnover ratios. |

Cato had a real rough year in Indy against the run though. He missed gobbs of tackles. One would hope he could bounce back from it. Lance Briggs is certainly the best LB available this year. Headed to the Pro Bowl. But I'm not sure how well he fits with us, he's an OLB. We don't really have a good MLB on our roster. Marshall is adequate in my opinion, but not great. If we added Briggs, we'd either be shifting Marshall to Rocky's spot and putting Rocky on the bench again, or we'd be moving Rocky or Marcus to MLB. Not ideal. For continuity's sake, I am thinking maybe you just add LB depth. Trying to shift stuff around is just asking for trouble, IMO. We all see how frustrating it is when we make tons of changes in personnel and then the team plays like crap. That means that we can't turn around and beg for an upgrade at every position in the offseason. |
Re: Make the cuts and add some depth...
It's funny Dwight Freeney isn't the flavor of the week anymore since Indy has struggled this year. I've always thought he was good, but not great like his stats suggest.
As far as Cato, I still think he could be a good steal from Indy. Their entire defense has struggled. |

------daniels-------branch-----griffen---carter------
------------washington----fletcher----macintosh---- --clements---------------------------------rogers-- ---------------fox/prioleau-------------------------- ------------------------------taylor----------------- branch taken first round, clements brought in, fletcher brought in if he doesnt want too much money springs out unless he restructures, daniels will restructure, wynn i think restructures, thomas and jansen will restructure etc dont think archie leaves. i think if we can get clements and have our top 2 cbs healthy he will be able to blitz more rather than try to help our weaker cb out. dont think holdman will leave, hes cheap i think and good as a backup |
