I loved that comment about MW putting his hand down and rushing the QB more. He played DE in college, he's always excelled at rushing the QB, so it sure makes sense. I almost wonder why we haven't done that more in the past, perhaps due to a lack of confidence in our depth at LB?

After all of this, the season still rests on the arm of Jason Campbell.
I hope that he has a positive EFFECT.
If not, his woes could AFFECT the outcome of the season.

The relaxed offseason does keep some players fresh and mentally strong for the long season. As long as the players come into camp healthy, strong, and ready to kick ass, who cares where they work out. In todays NFL these players make a ton of money and equip their homes with gyms as good as the teams facility. plus they have trainers in the offseason as well. I am not against it. What I hope isn't as relaxed this year is the training camp itself. Seems like gibbs and co. went a little easy this past year.

aswering a post regarding Marcus lining up at a DE on passing situations : not sold on that idea. I think he was very effective when he was the 5th rusher on the blitz. Using him as a sole rusher in the traditional 4 down lineman doesn't seem like that good of an idea. when he is the blitzer he is generally taking on RB's or TE's and he has a good match up. IN the traditional down lineman he will be taking on much bigger guys and possible double teams. That would seem to completely take him out of the plays. I am never a big fan of taking LB's and using them solely as passrushers in a down lineman stance.

Great find. That change excites me. When the linemen were asked to play the run first and foremost, you could definitely see how it restricted Andre Carter's pass rushing. Maybe now we'll see him getting to the QB even more? That'd be nice.

I don't know that he necessarily would become the 4th down lineman, he could be on the edge of a 5-man line.

LaVar managed 11 sacks rushing from the DE spot, and he was never comfortable with putting his hand down.

Washington on the other hand is very comfortable playing DE. I like the idea of it. It's not like every 3rd down he'll be putting his hand down, I'm sure they'll mix it up with him.

LOL, the offseason is hard.

But MonkFan4Life did post a great article giving us a glimpse of GW's scheme changes. That article did seem to have some football meat on its bones.

JLC has said that GW spent time examining the Chicago Bears defense on film and plans to incorporate some of the things they do. They definitely have a more attacking defensive line. Seeing him cut the line loose on the rush is very interesting.

I'd be willing to bet that Williams is very eager to turn this D around and I think we'll see a lot of new wrinkles and looks this year. Last year was rock bottom for him, I'm sure he's as motivated as ever now.

From what I'm hearing so far, I'm pretty excited. An attacking line to put pressure on the QB while Sean Taylor spends more time roaming the secondary as a ball hawk?

Pressure + Sean Taylor deep sounds like a formula for turnovers to me, which is EXACTLY what we need.

Question is, can our personnel execute the scheme? Andre Carter turned loose up front sounds pretty good to me.

GW more than anybody. He's the supposed "genius" and his D ranked 31st. Also, last in the NFL in sacks, and last in the NFL in interceptions. Meanwhile, Saunder's offense ranked 14th for total offense and 4th in the NFL in rushing offense in his first year here.

I'm sure he's coming out with something to prove.

Hmmm, this is a hard one. All I know is when you are in a sport you HAVE to train, and you have to be serious about it. I'm not so sure time off is a good idea.
