Re: Washington Redskins Pending Unrestricted Free Agents - 2008
I don't think we should keep caldwell. He only ran 2 routes all year. You could see the seahawks jumping his routes. Hopefully we can upgrade that position with someone either really big or a speed burner. Caldwell is not a threat.
I know I'm in the minority when I say I would rather see McCardell back next year.
Keep in mind we picked up Caldwell mid season, so I doubt he would've known much about the playbook. He's still a young guy who seemed pretty dependable. I also like McCardell, but he's getting kind of old. I'd say keep Caldwell and see what Mix or Espy does next pre-season. We might already have what we need. |
I agree. Just wonder about Caldwell though. He looked good, but didn't get too many balls.
It's a complex offense, plus Moss got healthy right when Caldwell started getting comfortable. He's a #3, maybe a #2 at best, but a solid contributor. Someone mentioned earlier that he had a problem with drops, but I don't remember him dropping anything. He's reliable, unselfish, and a hard worker. I think he's a good fit. I just wonder if we'll stand pat at WR or go after a bigger guy. Maybe bring Anthony Mix into, ahem, the mix? |
God I hope Brunnel opts out
Why would Brunnel want to opt out? What is he making 2 or 3 million to do nothing? Where else could he get that? |

Agreed. Honestly, having two very capable vets backing up Campbell is a good thing for us. |

I may be wrong, but I think Brunell restructured last offseason and now makes the veteran minimum for his position. I'm pretty sure he isn't making $2 or $3 million a year. |

Brunell, Mark (via opt out) Caldwell, Reche Cartwright, Rock (via opt out) Collins, Todd DeMulling, Rick Fabini, Jason Frost, Derrick Godfrey, Randall Macklin, David McCardell, Keenan Prioleau, Pierson Pucillo, Mike Suisham, Shaun Got a little work to do here. Suisham and Frost, probably keep them because they're not terrible. Godfrey played well, I'd think you want him back. Prioleau is GW's boy, you need Albright as the long snapper, and then you gotta get Rock, Collins, and Caldwell back. Those three were all pretty key this past season.
I'd resign Albright, Caldwell, Rock, Fabini (for backup money), Godfrey, and the kick specialists. I hope that the next regime brings in competition for the kickers. I saw Sam Swank kick for Wake Forest this year - that dude has a big-time leg. It never hurts to bring in young blood to compete. |
