I don't like the sound of any of this because all of it seems plausible.

The length of time that it's taking to decide and the excessive interviews seems as if its Snyder buying time to catch a big fish. If it is anyone but GW we'll know that Snyder hasn't changed his stripes.
This statement has been said and argued for and against a thousand time now this week.

Most appreciate that Snyder is taking his time to make sure that he picks the right guy, with the future of this franchise in mind. One (like yourself I assume) might argue that GW is the only "right guy," but none of us can say that for sure. What we know is that the players like GW and that if he were named HC this would presumably go a long way towards continuity.

However, I am sure that he and Snyder have discussed every detail of the franchise imaginable, beyond what you or I can even fathom. So there is a possibility that GW sees a future for the Redskins that doesn't jive well with Snyder's and perhaps Gibb's vision (like some have suggested he may want to do away with Saunders, and this would disrupt said continuity that he as a candidate is supposed to offer).

All and all I agree that this decision will be very telling about the maturity of Snyder. We will not be able to make that call immediately, however, and by no means can anyone claim that GW is the only decision that proves his maturity. In the end we will have to wait to see how this new coach performs to be able to make any statement about Snyder's success/failure in making this decision. And even if the coach doesn't do much, who is to say that given the circumstances he didnt make th right decision. Let me put it this way, since you are convinced that GW is the only sound decision, if GW is the next HC, but fails miserably, will Snyder have made the right choice? Who can tell?

Snyder has a difficult decision to make here. Give him credit for at least taking his time to weigh all possibilities. If he chooses Brian Billick then you can go ape shit if you want, but it may be more prudent to wait and see how things turn out. (Personally I would say to hell with prudence if Billick were hired, and would join you in going ape shit)

I've also heard such tales about Jimmie Johnson being a prospect even though he hasn't been on the coaching/scouting wagon in a while.

If it ends up being someone like him with a name is picked over the "no name" GW, I will be disappointed.

...And do you really think Danny is doing due diligence or just trying to put asses in the seats. If I know his old ways with personally handling the team I'd wager that he goes for the latter.
"Big Name" Coaches - Redskins Insider

"There are all kind of rumors and speculation going around about the Redskins pursuing a name coach and shocking everyone with their choice. Could be. With Dan Snyder running the show you never say never."

JLC is picking up a bit of a scent that Snyder may be trying to do something big. *Sigh*

But who the heck could we be pursuing who would qualify as a big name? JLC says Cowher's still not interested. Same with Pete Carroll (if he's even a big name). People thought about Vermeil, but Jason Reid touched base with him and it's not true. Then JLC thought about Jimmy Johnson. He's retired, and probably wants to stay retired.

Who else? I can't think of any other big names. John Madden? But that's equally laughable.

Whatever, I think this is all an overblown crock of crap, but figured I'd pass it on.
haha if john madden is coach i am no longer a redskin fan...

I'm wondering if they are also looking at some of these candidates for assistat coaches? I mean, if they hire GW, they are going to need an offensive coordinator. Just a thought.

Is it still a possibility that Gibbs will come back? Jeez. We're all lost without him!

it might be GW, just the GW he will hire will be G W Bush.

Re: Rumors: Big Name Coaches

Since he's been interviewed for a 4th time, you'd think Williams is in. But it scares me. Last time the def coord took over for the head coach Gibbs retired first time and they gave the nod to Ritchie Pettibone. RP lasted a year and was out. God forbid same thing happens again.

I'm amazed they haven't interviewed Offiss yet. :)
To be perfectly honest I would be all about giving Marty his due shot here. Perhaps even at the expense of GW. As much as Id like GW for continuity, he hasn't proved himself as a HC, in fact his last stint was a bit of a disaster. He has been great for us, but I think Marty would have a better chance of 1. having absolute authority and 2. bringing us to the playoffs.

I doubt Marty is a real option, but I would be excited if he were named HC. And to be fair, I would be just as excited about GW, but I would have more faith in Marty.
Yeah, I'm with you on that. I wasn't a fan of Marty and his offense when he was here, but after seeing what he did in San Diego with the right personnel, his teams can put up the points and get the yardage with the best of them.

Say what you want about his playoff record, at least he puts his teams in position for the playoffs. I really do believe he had this team on the right track.

I've been on the "continuity" bandwagon all along, but I'd be all for Marty's return to the Redskins.

maybe the skins want shwartz as their new dc but they have to wait until atlanta picks a new head coach, making sure atlanta doesn't take shwarts.

Maybe, Jeff Fisher really was spotted getting on redskins One?

Now that would be one big name I'd really love. He's one of the very best coaches in the NFL, in my opinion. GW would probably stay as coordinator if they hired Fisher.

But I don't see how that's possible. We'd have to trade mad picks to Tennessee to get him, wouldn't we? Plus weren't there rumors about Fisher flat out retiring? He has been in the game a long time.

I still think the "big name" rumor is a crock.

LOL! One of the funniest posts ever!

I was just thinking it through and I can see the Danny in an interview 4 years down the road.."well I am the only owner to have ever hired a former president."

hey, he's local, but on the other hand he's a texas boy so I doubt any loyalty to the skins. GW Bush would be a good hire if the danny decided to turn the Skins into a WWF outfit.
