Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
If it is then it is and we'll hope for the best. At this point, I hope we don't go after Rex Ryan. I am in no mood to be giving up draft picks as compensation for the guy.
if what i've read is correct, the ravens already fired ryan. in which case he is fully available for hire. |
Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
We should name Rex Ryan head coach (or successor). Isn't it something that we could be hiring the son of the guy that Gibbs could never stand (Buddy Ryan)
Anyhow, I don't think we would have to give up compensation in terms of draft picks if we give Rex a loftier title than he has in Baltimore.
Title doesn't matter. It's the substance of the job. They can call him what they want but if he's second in line to Fassel and he calls the plays then he is a DC. They went through this nonsense when Parcells was thinking of bringing in the GM from the pats. |
Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
if this is true i have a bad feeling about it don't know why..

Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
I believe we are only allowed to compensate a team for a coach if we give them the title of Head Coach.
They may be able to block Ryan from coming here, but we can't offer them compensation to get him. |

From JLC: "However, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, Ryan's contract stats has been reported incorrectly. It's been widely reported that Ryan was fired along with the rest of Baltimore's staff. But while it's true that Ryan is free to interview for any head coaching jobs - and he's still in play in Atltanta (who isnt't at this point? what a debacle the Falcons' situation has become), the Ravens could still block any lateral move, according to a source. Ryan remains Baltimore's property as a defensive coordinator, and could ask for compensation should another team want Ryan to run its defense. The Ravens players wanted Ryan to get the head coaching job there and there is a strong belief Baltimore would like to retain him as defensive coordinator. So I doubt they'll just let him walk down 95. Now, Ryan might also want to push for a change of venau as well given he was passed over for the head gig. They'll have to work some things out, obviously. And the Redskins could try to get creative with some new titles for him - a specialty round here - but the situation is certainly more complicated than it would seem on the surface." |
if what i've read is correct, the ravens already fired ryan. in which case he is fully available for hire.
Think you might be confusing him with his brother, Raiders DC Rob Ryan.
Rob Ryan also hasn't been fired, but the situation up there is so messed up that I don't think you could be blamed for getting it mixed up. |

I just don't get it...

(that being, the co-rumour that ryan may be coming with fassel) sigh. |
Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
I don't get this either.
What happens to GW and Saunders? Not to jump the gun, but this feels like rebuilding the team from the ground up alllll over again. |

Well, G.W. is a Buddy Ryan disciple. Admittedly, not the same thing as a blood relation, but, more than once, GW has indicated his admiration for Buddy and his coaching methods. If GW isn't staying, I think Rex would be a good hire (w/ a disclaimer). Ryan's system is a variation on his father's as is GW's so the personnel would be less of an issue. My biggest concern would be the lack of discipline displayed by Ryan's players. He is a large part of the whole "thug" atmosphere at Baltimore. Not sure how that would mesh the personality of our players. |

If, and right now its a huge IFwe bring in fassel and he brings in Ryan as DC we're going to need a major overhaul of the defense and that may take a long time and a lot of money. I'm not going to ever give up the on the team but I do think that fassel will need to show me a whole lot before I can get excited about him. |

If you try to pin the last 15 years of mediocrity on any one thing, it would have to be the veritable carousel of player and coaches that rotate through this city every two or three years. I miss pre-free agency when a team was a team. I feel like the only thing that's remotely constant is that we still wear the same uniforms, other than that it's a new team every damn year. |
this info sounds a lot like the stuff from Redskins Insider...whoever is reporting this could just be reporting what he read...but still...makes....me.........sick :vomit:
What a horrible way to end such a hard season. GW loses his best player of all time, and then gets pushed out of the HC spot that he's wanted all along and worked hard for..... Nice, real nice.... :Flush: I'd really like to know what the hell Dan Snyder is thinking... because he certainly isn't listening to his TEAM – you know, the way Gibbs did!!!!!!! |
Re: Coaching Rumor on SportsTalk 980
This move, if it even happens, won't even make sense to me until we're eight games into next season. I won't buy into the interviews by the players, the other coaches, or not the media. I want to see it on the field.
Let's remember this is a playoff team, gentlemen. Unless Fassel can take us to the next round or even the conference championship, I'll be very unforgiving of this move. |
