Re: ESPN's Mortenson: Williams No Longer a Candidate
If GW is out of the running, maybe Ron Meeks will be the new HC instead of Fassel. He's got a pretty impressive resume and was here is 2000 as DB coach.
The Official Website of the Indianapolis Colts I think he would be a good hire as HC. |
Re: ESPN's Mortenson: Williams No Longer a Candidate
I'm disappointed. Especially if this stuff about the Redskins creating a smear campaign against Williams is true. GW deserves better than that.

posting to please FIRE CERRATO. I believe he is behind all of this with the promotion Dan Snyder recently gave him, he is going to screw our team over more. Damn it Snyder, what in the world are you doing to our team. Thank you for the distruction, you will not be forgiven this time. Thank you for not hiring the one man who continued our continuinty in Gregg Williams. Thank you for turning a memorable season into a firestorm aftermath. I have been so angry at you for what you have done to this organization. Class act reporting lies about Gregg Williams too, as if he would bad mouth Joe Gibbs, the man who endorsed him and he wanted to see succeed him. I sincerely hope these are all rumors for your sake. This is dispicable, and a complete deviated lie from what you told us at Gibbs resignation press conference saying that you were happy with the way that things were going and that you wanted to continue the consistency with the personal, coaches and scouts. You will not be trusted again, so you might as well relinguish your ownership rights to the team as we feel betrayed and lied to constantly by you and your minnions. Pathetic, simply pathetic that you would choose this route, as if you would want to hurt the players, coaches and fans. Congrats, you truly stink!!!!! |
All I have to say about this is Synder is going to come out next year looking like either a genius or a complete asshat.
We'll see what happens, I suppose.
I thought I was the only one who used the term "asshat" hahah! As far as him looking like a genius...its beyond that now if this is true. Belichick is a genius but people still hate him for being a jerk. Snyder officially can't win if this is fact. |

I would be disappointed too, if this was true, but the article cites a "a source close to Williams theorized..." It was probably his agent and he and GW are probably pissed that they heard about this in the media before it came direct from Redskins Park (shame on Snyder / Cerrato if that's the case. That's bad business and totally wrong). |

Re: huhh??? now what
I definitely don't believe that Williams bad mouthed Gibbs. Different philosophies is not the same as bad mouthing.
I have some doubts about this report though, until I hear it somewhere else. Mort, great guy, but not the best source always. Changing the thread title.
Ok. So let me ask you this. If the report is true, do you think Snyder would use Williams' differing philosophy and spin it, I guess, in his mind as an affront to Gibbs? Thereby making it easier for him to justify his decision not to hire Williams, so as to avoid what he perceives as inevitable personality conflicts with him and Cerrato? If people believe that Williams was basically dissing Gibbs, most fans would become somewhat sympathetic to Snyder and be much more accepting of his decision to hire another coach. |
Re: ESPN's Mortenson: Williams No Longer a Candidate
sorry Alvin just blowing off steam after hearing the report! Arghh!!!! I apologize.....

Re: ESPN's Mortenson: Williams No Longer a Candidate
This is the worst possible news if this is correct. This means a new staff on both sides of the ball and all of the great momentum from the late season run is gone.
I dont think Gregg Williams would disrespect Joe Gibbs though. Gregg Williams has backed Joe Gibbs for the last 4 years every time no matter what. Gregg Williams also stayed and coached the defense instead of taking a head coaching job elsewhere over the last couple of years. |

Re: ESPN's Mortenson: Williams No Longer a Candidate
Wow. Disappointed if this news is accurate. Now, I definitely don't know what to expect. At this point, not sure if anything will surprise me. Maybe Gibbs will make a comeback. Ya just never know at this point.

Re: ESPN's Mortenson: Williams No Longer a Candidate
Gregg Williams speaks! This is coming from JLC's blog now. This is really f-ing crazy right now.
Posted at 10:33 PM ET, 01/25/2008 Gregg Williams Washington Redskins assistant head coach Gregg Williams said he was considering withdrawing from consideration for the team's head coaching position late last night amid reports citing team sources that he was no longer candidate. As of 11:30 last night owner Daniel Snyder and executive vice president Vinny Cerrato had not contacted Williams to notify him of any change in his status, and Williams has hodsince his final interview 10 days ago. When asked if he would withdraw from consideration given the drawn out process and recent developments, Williams said: "I really haven't even had time to think about it, but it's something I will consider. I want to discuss it with my players and coaching staff, and at this point I haven't had a chance to contact anyone yet." Williams said reports that he had made disparaging remarks about former Coach Joe Gibbs during his interview were untrue. "I haven't heard a thing from (Snyder and Cerrato), but I can assure you that Joe Gibbs is one of the best people I have ever been around in the world and one of my favorite people to ever be around. I came here because Joe Gibbs asked me and I feel honored to work with Joe Gibbs. "Everybody knows Coach Gibbs is in the Hall of Fame as one of the best coaches who's ever been in this league. But once you are around him you see an even better person than s football coach. I can't believe anyone would even come close to suggesting that I would ever say anything inflammatory or derogatory about Joe Gibbs. He's my idol." "I pinched myself all the time understanding and knowing that I get a chance to work side by side with him. I wanted to grow as coach and learn a lot more in this profession and what better way to learn form than a master coach who is already in the Hall of Fame. "What I've learned in patience and how to deal with people and those things - how to build relationships - have been invaluable and will always be invaluable to me and will directly relate to my experiences with Joe Gibbs. With all that being said and done all Redskins know we are a very close knit family and that comes from people like Joe Gibbs and me and I feel tremendously proud that I have had an opportunity to work with Joe Gibbs. I just wish it could have been longer."
Redskins Insider |
