I think that anyone who gets thrashed by the likes of Chris Matthews like that should look for different work. It's a little unfair because Matthews has been bested at times on that show but he has the luxury of going to commercial when things get sticky. Christopher Hitchens was a regular guest on that show for years, but when he started pointing out certain inconvenient truths that didn't jive with the Matthew agenda, no more Hitchens. At least Chris has the guts to put people who disagree with him on the air. Olbermann never does. It's the same guys all the time. Richard Wolfe, Jonathon Alter, Howard Fineman, even convicted felon John Dean is welcome because he always tows the line. But, no denying this guy is an idiot. As for Jon Stewart, he himself got schooled by Jonah Goldberg back around February. The interview had about six edits and Stewart still couldn't land a punch. Goldberg said the six minute on-air segment lasted 18 minutes in the studio. In fairness, this was during the writers strike and it was obvious that Stewart relies on them as his "readers" as well. He was visibly angry that he was not able to make Golberg look bad. Don't look for that episode in re-runs anytime soon. |

You mean this clip and Goldberg's LA Times piece talking about what got cut out? The full video wasn't posted because the whole interview was profanity laced, I would love to see the whole interview though.
I'm persuaded that Carlin was right -- to the extent that fascism of any kind will come to America, it will do so in the guise of something "progressive."
I'm more inclined to believe it will come under the guise of National Security, Homeland Defense, and Patriotism (Nationalism). I could be wrong though but history is on my side. Oh do I count the ways...terror alert, cronyism, airport security, you're with us or against us, telecom immunity, domestic spying, denial of habeas corpus, secrecy on steroids, torture and foreign prison camps. Goldberg can't measure up to a pinkie finger, a useless appendage by all accounts. Liberal socialism I could understand, but liberal fascism? That's Mussolini territory. |
