How soon we forget that it is called FOOTBALL! And, we have two feet! You always need both. |

7 Rodney Williams, Rams – Played 15 games for the Giants in 2001.
Good post. I always wondered what happened to Williams. I seem to recall him booming a 70+ yarder and everyone thinking he was the next great punter (if there is such a thing). Then he would put up a 5 yard punt. The kid could kick, that's for sure, but amazingly inconsistant. |
Re: Brooks vs. Frost and 80 is Enough(?)
does anybody know if brooks did the kicking off in college? because what we need is deeper kickoffs, suisham did a decent job this yr,but he was inconsistant,if this guy can kickoff and punt that would be great

And make me breakfast. Go on, kicker. Git!! |
Re: Brooks vs. Frost and 80 is Enough(?)
Punting is a skill that easily translates from college to the pros. I can't see any reason why Brooks wouldn't beat out Frost eventually anyway.
I'm not sure I'd agree fully there. A lot of college kickers that have power legs get away with it in college, there are a lot of teams in the NCAA and not so many in the NFL. Not everyone in college is a great directional kicker (aka kick it AWAY from Hester) nor can do the pooch punts to land it where needed. Granted, I don't think that we'll have as much of an issue with that with Brooks, as he showed he was solid landing it within the 20. Don't know about his direction, but he got the Ray Guy award so he can't just be ALL power. |

Really? You thought he was decent on kickoffs? I thought he was horrible. How many times would his kicks end up on the 10 yard line or worse? I have no idea if Brooks did kickoffs, but I doubt he would do any worse than what Suisham did last year. |
Re: Brooks vs. Frost and 80 is Enough(?)
he is competition, and he definitely has the edge (brooks that is), but just in case he s#$%# the bed, you need insurance, and in camp, you need multiple punters anyways, just like you always sign a couple extra QBs for WR route practice purposes.
i'm up on brooks and i know frost doesn't have trade value (remember, he wouldn't sign with us because he wanted to test the market? and then no one even made an offer...) for the 53 man roster, unless brooks is hurt or just looks terrible, he should be the only punter, since releasing frost is no big deal (he'll be waiting by the phone just in case we need him later anyways). |
Re: Brooks vs. Frost and 80 is Enough(?)
I think Brooks has this in the bag. Stronger kick, more accurate, younger, and has a potential to become a pro-bowl material punter.
I say this is an excellent move that we made and i always wanted to pick up this guy but i just never quite thought he would really be with us. I can't wait to use him( a punter) on madden 09:) . |
