a couple more stingers to kearse and they'll be a lot less threatening

bedlamVR 08-21-2004 04:38 AM

Still preseason rember.. wins here mean nothing and also rember Gibbs and co are running a more vanilla offence to judge individual performances.

Hogskin 08-21-2004 05:45 AM

Actually, I expect a huge year from TO. And from McNabb who finally has a legitimate #1 receiver to throw to. When the games count, it won't be one bomb then no more TO receptions. The Eagles' offense is greatly improved (but now they desparately need a short-yardage RB to show up). The way we will beat the Eagles this year is with our offense, through the air. They are going to score. But their defense has gone WAY south, and can be beaten badly with the pass. And the Redskins are just the guys to do it!!

MTK 08-21-2004 11:30 AM

The hater-aid sure is flowing today huh?

Who wouldn't want a playmaker like Owens? Sure he's a problem child, but can anyone question that the Eagles WR corps are significantly better with TO??

His presence is really going to open things up for the TE's and other WR's. I'm not at all happy to see him in the NFC East, especially with no more Champ.

SmootSmack 08-21-2004 11:37 AM

The pressure is all on McNabb now. Especially with Staley gone and Buckhalter out now. Yeah, Owens is great and he'll definitely take the pressure off of Mitchell, Pinkston, and their TE (can't remember the name right now) but McNabb has had the benefit of people saying "well he doesn't have any receivers" for the past few years. Now he doesn't have that excuse, so let's see what happens.

At some point, I can see TO complaining to McNabb. Once he realizes that his QB back in San Fran, Jeff Garcia, is a much more accurate passer.

Big C 08-21-2004 11:41 AM

LJ Smith is the TE, hes gonna be a good one also

Hogskin 08-21-2004 12:12 PM

Yes, Smith looks VERY promising. Right now all the depth charts still show Chad Lewis holding the starting spot, but that is probably like the Redskins' charts showing Sean Taylor 2nd...

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We looked pretty good the first games of the season last year. Then low and behold. Fortunately, T.O. will not be scoring as many T.D.'s as to be expected.

I don't think it's jumping the gun to say a guy who has stayed in the top 10 WR's ever since he came into the league, and is in his prime, is going to have a dramatic affect on a team that has not had a decent #1 WR in recent memory. And I sure don't know how that translates to the 2003 Redskins under one of the worst coaching staffs in recent memory...

By the way, I agree he acts like a jerk - but he does perform.

Big C 08-21-2004 02:17 PM

its just sad that hes still talkin shit about jeff garcia after all this time. he needs to get over it and stop being a dumbass. so much talent, but such a big mouth

SUNRA 08-21-2004 02:30 PM
Yes, those 28 yards Stephen Davis on capped the game and really put the skins in such a hole no amount of morale could have dug us out. In closing: give me a fucking break. Stephen Davis is trash, he's old, he never finishes a season, and he can fall down for 3 yards. We have a man by the name of Clinton Portis who gives us a home run threat and someone for teams to plan around, besides saying put 8 in the box. DeShaun Foster will be Carolina's starter within two years.

Carolina has s coaching staff and player core that has been in place for some time. Losing to the NFC champions in OT doesn't bother me. Better than being shut out by the Texans.
If Gibb's offense is to be established off of the run, then the offense is going to suffer. Portis hasn't shown me a damn thing. He's not even close to 100 yds. in 2 games. You were probably kissing Davis's ass when he played for the Skins". It's hilarious, how some of you so-called knowledgale fans are quick to jump ship when a new ship rolls in. If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath on any of the "new stars" because most are an injury away from collecting the booty and not producing anything.

MTK 08-21-2004 02:33 PM

Portis will be fine, I'm not worried about him one bit.

Hogskin 08-21-2004 03:16 PM

Jeez, Sunra, I agree with you about the jumping ship bit, but your other statements SURE don't sound like a Redskin fan. Not sure where you were coming from with that stuff.

That Guy 08-21-2004 05:08 PM

if you've seen the camps you've seen portis run. so far every run has been up the gut, and he's had very limited touches to break one... i have no doubts he's better than S davis as an RB, but i have no ill feelings towards davis myself, and i think he found a perfect fit in carolina.
If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath on any of the "new stars" because most are an injury away from collecting the booty and not producing anything.
that sh*t could be said about ANYONE in the nfl, so i got no clue what kind of point you're trying to make... if davis were here, he'd be one injury away too...

MTK 08-21-2004 06:41 PM

Slightly off topic here but I really hate it when you hear about a team that's one key injury away from a losing season. That's such a generic statement, seriously, doesn't that apply to nearly every team?? Every team has a guy or two that they couldn't afford to lose.

Sunra, Portis has put up back to back 1500 yard seasons, I think he's more than proven himself at the NFL level. Sounds like you're ready to write him off after 2 meaningless preseason games.
