Re: Cooley Sets New Skins TE Receptions Record
Good post Tripp. He is part of the solution and I expect even bigger things from him for many, many years to come. If we give Zorn time to get this offense in gear, Cooley should have some monster years and be even more productive than he is now.

You beat me to it. Cooley has three fumbles this year. Portis by comparison has only two, but he has carried/touched the ball 291 times. Cooley has fumbled three times on only 73 touches. |
Re: Cooley Sets New Skins TE Receptions Record
Cooley also breaks a ton of tackles and is always fighting for extra yards, I can't hate on him too much for 3 fumbles this year.

Re: Cooley Sets New Skins TE Receptions Record
Cooley is a special player at TE. A real Franchise TE.
One position we DO NOT have to worry about. he might have lost a couple fumbles these past couple games...but nor do i put those games on Cooleys shoulders entirely by any means. In fact..he gets my pass completly. Hes had some GREAT GREAT games for us. The 2nd Cowbodys meeting in `05 sticks out. The way he breaks tackles...its almost a mystery...players just slide off him as he runs by...Hes got great leverage for YAC. But hes really been there for some sure hands alot over these past few years. And im sure we havent seen his best game recieving yet. |
Re: Cooley Sets New Skins TE Receptions Record
With that many catches you just wonder why he wasn't able to find the endzone more. Probably not his fault, it may have something to do with the scheme.

Re: Cooley Sets New Skins TE Receptions Record
I don't even remember the last time they looked his way in the red zone.
|
Re: Cooley Sets New Skins TE Receptions Record
I'd like to know how many trips they've had to the red zone since the offensive slump began.

Re: Cooley Sets New Skins TE Receptions Record
cooley is a beast
To bad he only has 1 TD so far this year!
I love the guy, but he probably broke the record for critical fumbles as a Redskin TE too! |

Cooley leads all tight ends in yards after contact. Sure, he could bring his fumbles down to zero if he took a knee after catching the pass, but what he brings to the table is the ability to run with the ball. Three fumbles is meaningless compared to the key first downs he's fought for after initial contact. |
Helmet to helmet is in force regardless of if someone running with the ball or not.
I don't believe that is true because peopl lead all the time with their helmet when making a tackle and the runner lowers their head before a hit. |

The only rule I could find is this one:
Article 8 There shall be no unnecessary roughness. This shall include, but will not be limited to: (g) using any part of a player’s helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/“hairline” parts) or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily
http://blogmedia.thenewstribune.com/media/2006%20NFL%20RULEBOOK.pdf In the scenario you outlined, it's not violent or unnecessary (i.e., the defender can't control what the RB is going to do with his helmet). |

It has to be intentional and blatant. Sure helmet to helmet contact happens all the time, just not intentionally. That's when it gets flagged. |

I agree wit this statement, unforutnately his fumbles come at the wrong time during the course of a game. |
