Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
If we sign him and decide not to draft an OT high, then an emphatic NO. We cannot keep putting off getting young O-line replacements (for Jansen next year etc...).
We have to start addressing the o-line now starting with RT this year, which means we could phase out Jansen next year with replacement already acclimated to the system etc... Getting Pace means we go LB/DE @ 13, pushing back the replacement timetable for our o-line which could literally fall apart in 2010 if left unaddressed.
is it any better to sign a 36 year old daniels coming off a major injury and continue to get older at the DE's? i say signing pace to start is better than signing daniels to start, imo. DE or OLB in the draft first round |
Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
How shitty are we that we have to resort to picking up rejects from the Rams? What is wrong with you people?
Oh my it's the THREAD POLICE, I apologize please forgive. I don't feel like reading through 60 pages.
Um no, all you had to do is read one page in the 2009 Free Agent thread to see Orlando Pace being discussed. Not to mention the fact that right now we don't know whether Pace would be interested or be someone our team could afford (or should bother to sign). |
Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
The FO is not signing Pace no matter what for the time being... maybe after the draft as things shake out but I highly, highly doubt it.
Oh boy. Here comes the Orlando Pace thread....

You asked for it GMScud. I think he's too old.
I knew it was coming!! I'm surprised it didn't happen earlier. Anyway, I'll pass. He's old and both of his knees are bad. I'd rather get younger than bring in yet another injury prone lineman on the wrong side of 30 (I feel like I say at least once a week around here). Like I said in the FA thread, he can probably prolong his career if he switches to RT, and that's just what we'd use him for, but IMO we don't need an aging, oft injured stop gap. |

Much better IMO. We have Chris Wilson and Alex Buzbee to rotate in at DE. Daniels is a stout against run and Wilson in a speed rusher which could benefit alot from having Haynesworth in the middle and also AH likes to play DE as well. There are plenty of DEs in the later round of the draft who we could bring in and rotate with Wilson and Daniels but the OTs, apart from the big 4, Britton, Beatty or Meredith (all in 1st - early 2nd) the rest of don't standout. Our D is set IMO, just the icing left (OLB and DE) but its the o-line where I am worried considering how we played last year. Keeping JC upright is one of the main concerns and breaking a young OT into the lineup should be a priority. |

If we stay put at 13 we'll either get a stud defender or O-lineman, but after that.... ??? Not saying there won't be some quality later on in the draft, but to count on an immediate impact player after the 13th selection wouldn't be smart. Now, if we could somehow get Maualuga at 13 and Loadholt in the third round (77th), that would make me happy. |
Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
So, like, he's only 33. I did look it up.
I think that changes his forecast a little bit. It makes his more recent injury troubles look like a type of decline as opposed to the literal end of his career. At 33, I'm guessing he can still start in this league. Yes, he's going to inevitably miss time, but not necessarily more time than he's missed in past seasons. |

Well some teams have picked up our rejects. Taylor, Springs, Evans ...any of those names ring a bell. The only one we cut cause of age or injury was Springs. The others were either money or end of contract. I don't know all the specifics about Pace but could it not be age and money also? Heyer can't run block well, Jansen can't pass block well anymore. If Pace can do both the sign him for a one yr deal at low cost and pick someone up at RT in the second round if we can move back or third. Funny since they are trying to bring Daniels and Wynn back and now Fincher I get the feeling they are confortable with the team and will pick BAP in the draft ....perhaps I'm wrong cause I would like to see them move back if possible to get more picks. |
Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
I also would prefer they let Thrash go and sign Holt if he's let go. Atleast until Kelly and Thomas can prove they can get it done.

Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
a link is always nice
St. Louis Rams release offensive tackle Orlando Pace - ESPN If the guy is healthy he's worth a shot, but that seems to be a big if for him lately. |
Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
OL is a position of need for us, and Pace is one of the best OT ever so I think it's ok to make this its own thread. This isn't Deuce McAlister we're talking about.
I'd probably pass. I do know that the Rams did try to trade him to the Skins last month and the Skins said no. But it wouldn't surprise me if they were just waiting for him to be released. |
Re: Orlando Pace has been cut what do you think
There is a reason that he was released. In the eyes of his former employers he was not worth the money that he was collecting.
The guy may still be good, but he is certainly not great. We have needs on the offensive line, but I would not address it this way. Let someone else sign him. I want to draft some fresh meat early for the OL. Signing Pace would just prolong Rookie development. |
