Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB...
I think Ellis is more of a DE and a rush 3-4 OLB than an OLB in our scheme. He would just be taking snaps away from Orakpo and I think Orakpo needs them to learn the position.
Great point. This is another reason why we probably wont try to get him. In a 4-3 he would be better at DE instead of OLB. Most of his career he was a 4-3 end for the Cowboys. If the Skins decided if he was released to try him as a 4-3 OLB for cheap id say why not. I dont think there is any chance we sign him if hes released as a 4-3 end because we already got alot of DEs on the roster. So the odds of us getting him are slim to none. I still think he is a damn good player though. |
20.5 sacks over the last 2 years isnt productive?
not to make it sound paltry but it's a 3-4 |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB...
I think not!! Didnt we just go theough this with Mr Taylor, a 30 something, (beast)
that was suppose to bring the pass rush back to DC...enough with the washed up OLB/DE types...Weve got several guys that can play solid at OLB |

....and your point is? I know its a 3-4 and the OLB rush more than a 4-3 but 20.5 sacks over a two year span for any player is great at this level. Im not saying hes a great superstar player. Im just saying when someone says Ellis isnt very productive when he had 20.5 sacks over a 2 year span is laughable. |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB...
he is more of a DE in a 4-3 than a OLB. But he is also a friggan COWGIRL so no f'n way!! I think i just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

50 tackles over 2 seasons is not...and last I checked, we needs an OLB, not a DE. |

You need to keep in mind my initial points in my initial post. He had a whopping 3.5 sacks over 14 games last year if not for the eagles and giants game. He is 34 and his production even in sacks was cut dramatically! He would not fit well in our system, and to trade ANY pick away for him would be stupid IMO. Time to keep our picks, and not trade them for oldies. Do you really want a guy that would likely get us 25 tackles and 3 sacks??? |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB...
Who's that old ex-steeler LB who was awesome last year for the Dolphins?
I'm not saying I'm in favor of trading for this guy...I'm not...but the point that just because you are older that you suck isn't always true...I think some of us are just a bit gunshy..thats all |

And he was 31 last year, not 34. Not to mention how the Dolphins used him as opposed to how we would use ellis. |

I said in a earlier post I wouldnt trade for him unless it was a low pick. I wouldnt go trading the farm for a guy who is probably going to be released. Odds are though we wouldnt trade for him since he isnt a great fit here. I agree with all of that. I dont like when people take stats and break them down. While its a great tidbit that he only had 3.5 sacks over 14 games the bottom line is he had 8 sacks last year. Hell id rather have a LB who had big games vs division rivals. A drop from 12.5 to 8 isnt dramatic imo. Ellis is still a player who can make plays and it shouldnt take him too long to find another team if hes released. It just seems to me people look at his age and say he must be on the decline. Maybe he will hit that decline but as of right now with 20.5 sacks over the last 2 years he still can get to the QB as far as I know. |
Re: I think this might be our answer for OLB...
We had chances to upgrade our LB postion in the draft and instead we went CB. at the time of that pick MLB Phillips from TCU was there, the kid is a tackling machine. OLB McKinzie From South Florida was there, very good player taken by the Pats. Too bad he was injured.

No offense but if you read the whole thread and all my posts you would realize I know we need a OLB and not a DE. |
