I think they'll be SOL. I don't remember who it was, but someone tried to regulate HBO, Showtime, etc. That got tossed out fast, I think Satallite radio is safe - for now. Until it becomes as common as cable-tv type channels, it will be fine.
I just wonder how long it will be before some right-wing, fundamentalist bible thumpers start calling for legislation to allow the FCC to have regulatory control over satellite radio.
I don't think that legislation should be levied against Satellite Radio. I think this because its a closed loop system. The only way you can listen to it is by buying the equipment AND subscribing to the service. Unlike our trusty dusty AM/FM, satellite radio cannot be heard by anyone who simply has the means to pick the signal out of the air. People must jump through some hoops before obtaining the signal.

technically you can make your own receiver and pirate it freely... that's not legit though...
Matty,
what channel is mike & mike on?
AM 1300, ESPN radio

980 is FOX and has Jim Rome at noon

Cpayne: You have to jump through hoops to get cable television, but that's still restricted. Granted they have more freedom than network TV, they're still regulated.

Sorry, I don't know much about cable TV regulations. But, compare the Playboy channel to Satellite radio. Same type of deal.

Kinda funny that you still want to argue with me even though we agree on the topic.

Not likely that an average Joe could go in and crack their security scheme, though. It would still be illegal to do that anyway.

I like it already! I can get Stern and listen to NFL games.

Daseal 10-09-2004 01:03 PM

I think at first it will be comparable to the playboy channel, but once it becomes so popular nearly everyone has it I think it'll be comparable to Comedy Central, etc.
